rafaelturk··on Gannett CEO: Here's why we are suing Google for deceptive business practices
well Yes and No. Again: Google only serves a lot of ads because has a lot traffic, only has traffic because is better at user experience. Otherwise is a tricky case to win.. It wil be extremely hard to prove on court that newspapers don't have any other ad alternatives other than google, hence the case for anti-trust or similar. It will be an interesting case to watch, more political than technical.
rafaelturk··on Gannett CEO: Here's why we are suing Google for deceptive business practices
Why? hopefully not. The reason HN is cool is that content is moderated by the community. That's exactly what you don't get in neither google nor newspapers
rafaelturk··on Gannett CEO: Here's why we are suing Google for deceptive business practices
and yes don't get me wrong.. I agree with the general idea behind the lawsuit: Google's is hostile and anti-competitive monopolisitic company. Yet, the initial problem remains, newspapers whant this `ownership` back, but doing so with very biased views, where they will dictate what is `newsworthy` or not
rafaelturk··on Gannett CEO: Here's why we are suing Google for deceptive business practices
As much a really don't like Google, I'm afraid newspapers are losing traffic and thus revenue from their own mistakes. Example here: We're all using HN to learn about this article. If I go to the front page of USA TODAY, I'm show a buntch of useless articles and news that are irrelevant to me. That's the only wining strategty: Google uses algorithms to optimize user experency, legacy newspapers still belive that they are the ones that will dictactate what you'll read or not.

rafaelturk··on KeyDB – A Multithreaded Fork of Redis
Looks really cool, but What is the goal? Redis already something instantly fast, and single thread brings a lot of benefits. Also Redis is multithreaded in a few smart things (sync to disk is a separated thread)
rafaelturk··on Datomic is Free

I'm sure NSA will love this feature
rafaelturk··on Java 20 / JDK 20: General Availability
Impressive how many companies are stuck on quite old java versions. We are a core API for payments services, and we need to force our customers to upgrade to newer Java versions as most of them don't support newer encriptyion protocols

rafaelturk··on SVB collapse: Peter Thiel’s role scrutinized as spark of bank run
Blame the messenger. Media is going crazy about this with no fundamentals at all. SVB was already doomed at least a year ago when they bought HTM assets.

rafaelturk··on Why does 0.1 and 0.2 = 0.30000000000000004?
For everyone working on tech... When your friends mock you, and make funny comments how tech is hard and often unpleasant to use this a perfect example. This thread have multiple `techy` examples, how binary numbers works, etc. Thurth is the year is 2023 we have CPUs with billions of transistors and we still have fundamentaly basic bugs like math. I really don't understand why languages dont default to decimals for literals..

rafaelturk··on Small SaaS banned by Cloudflare after 4 years of being paying customer
Cloudflare pricing is crazy rabbit hole. What are the triggers the need to migrate to Cloudflare enterprise? moreover is possible to just be pay-per use?
rafaelturk··on Small SaaS banned by Cloudflare after 4 years of being paying customer
I really curious about how this unfolds, I was planning to migrate from `AWS Lambda` to `Cloudflare Workers` as a paying customer. I'm basicaly an API with lots of JSON.

Why Cloudflare cancel paying Workers customers? Makes no sense to me.

rafaelturk··on The DSA-2000 Radio Survey Telescope
I'm always impressed with the amazing Math and Engineering required to convert radio signals, especially when dealing with thousand of antennas, into images. A Project ambitious like this requires lots and lots of high quality hardware and software.
