The DSA-2000 Radio Survey Telescope

I'm always impressed with the amazing Math and Engineering required to convert radio signals, especially when dealing with thousand of antennas, into images. A Project ambitious like this requires lots and lots of high quality hardware and software.

So they'll correlate and image the signals instead of recording all the inputs of all the antennas to storage. That's a reasonable way to pare down the data storage requirements.

It is amazing to me that we've gone from just barely having A/D converters fast enough to handle flight control on Apollo to this level of networking/DSP in my lifetime.

This is the type of fundamental science enabled by the exponential reduction in compute costs, especially storage.

The intersection of computer science, physics, and engineering is a fascinating space!
