I especially like one of the comments on the page.

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” -Robert A. Heinlein

raddad··on Americans’ Distaste for Both Trump and Clinton Is Record-Breaking (2016)
What I find truly comical and will be the biggest laugh of all other elections is when Ted Cruz and John Kasich declared their biggest qualifications were "Vote for me because I'm not Trump".

>I can imagine myself saying "So why don't you just take the job of a dishwasher until things get better?" But I can't really imagine myself saying "So why don't you just sell your body until things get better?"

"Love you long time, five dallah" and the ensuing event takes three minutes which works out to $100/hr while the dishwasher makes what, %7.50? $100/hr vs $7.50/hr, hmmmm. I have known nurses and teachers who worked their way through college in the sex trade. They were incredible people who likely had no student debt.

I looked at it, I tried it, I love it so far. I added uMatrix(1) and uBlock Origin Websocket(2). Now I just need to read the documentation to get the full advantage(3).

raddad··on How Android gets to 100% market share
I ran into a rural agricultural phenomena in which people wanted the biggest, baddest, newest, fastest, whizzbang available. One was particularly upset when I informed him the place he purchased said biggest, baddest, newest, fastest, whizzbang was a discount store and thus didn't have the biggest, baddest, newest, fastest, whizzbang; all they had was older tech.

I think I ruined his life.

People also have to wonder how a candidate can receive the most votes and still looses the election.

* 1824: John Quincy Adams won over * 1876: Rutherford B. Hayes * 1888: Benjamin Harrison * 2000: George W. Bush

All these presidents won without the votes. Hayes was chosen by The House.

Added later:

The article you presented on approval and score voting is interesting and I like the idea. I have believed for some time that we need to do away with the party system and let each candidate stand or fall on their own merit.

I don't really fit into any party as I am an independently conservative liberal libertarian with social and anti social leanings.

raddad··on Can’t Hack a Hacker: Reverse Engineering a Discovered ATM Skimmer
Another fun fact. Before card terminals became universal, it was common for different cards to require their own handheld terminal. A sales desk may have had half a dozen or so, in order top process the card.

I really wish I could find that video again. It was interesting.

I had a $20 error charge on my card and it took a month for the refund. This is with the vendor stating in writing it was their error. I no longer bank there.

I think everyone in school came home with a Christmas wreath made out of punch cards. Every now and then I still see cases of punch cards offered for free.

raddad··on ‘Lost’ songs from the Middle Ages are brought back to life
I found the translated text of "The Consolation of Philosophy", by Anicus Manlius Severinus Boethius

https://www.gutenberg.org/files/14328/14328-h/14328-h.htm

"It has been translated into every European tongue, and into English nearly a dozen times, from King Alfred's paraphrase to the translations of Lord Preston, Causton, Ridpath, and Duncan, in the eighteenth century."

Books were expensive. A very rough calculation is about $450 a book. Amazon could have made as killing back then.

raddad··on Syria Hospital Bombing: Are the Rules of War Breaking Down?
I've always thought Rules of War was either an illusion or an oxymoron. A war with rules would be a sporting event, wouldn't it?

Every war has it's atrocities. War itself is an atrocity.
