ra00l··on Ask HN: Why isn't remote work advertised as a pro environment initiative?
Because it's not pro-environment, as you'd think.

More CO2 is generated by remote employees than those that go to work. The CO2 emissions generated by an office (including heating / AC / water / employee transportation - in EU it's mostly by subway / bus) are smaller compared to each individual employee CO2 emissions.

Don't have a source, but you can find CO2 calculators online.

ra00l··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (January 2021)
SEEKING WORK | Europe, UTC+2 | REMOTE

(Mostly) front-end developer with javascript knowledge and over 15 years of experience.

Aside from development, I've also got a couple of skill multipliers that make me add more value to the projects I'm involved in:

* I'm not afraid to ask questions (How will the clients use the code I write? Can I make it simpler / more intuitive for them? Do we really have to (re)write this whole application / module / functionality? Can we do 20% of the work for 80% of the result?)

* Worked with non-technical clients as both adviser and developer

* Challenge existing outdated processes

* Learn the concepts behind a technology, making the switch to something else easy and painless

ra00l··on Ask HN: Know of an automated way to pollute the date big tech has on me?
that's a nice path. But what if you misstep and forget to enable the right vpn? You work and your social selves will get merged.
ra00l··on Ask HN: Know of an automated way to pollute the date big tech has on me?
Minimization though comes with a mental price; it's the best solution, I agree, but I am looking for a good enough solution.

PS: appreciate you not picking on my grammar (though spell-checkers say it's correct)

-----------

Started as a backend developer (still have a lot of skills in that area) but slowly transitioned to front-end, where things are more exciting.

I am learning the concepts behind every front-end framework I am working with and discover both the good and the bad parts. Hence I can adapt to any new and shiny thing out there.

I maintain a couple of side projects for which I've also done some support for and realized the amount of difference the right message/explanation can make (regardless of how beautiful the code was written).

I am looking to bring value to a company either as an employee or as an external consultant.

ra00l··on Ask HN: Am I just a wantrepreneur?
I've been where you are.

Here are some things that worked for me:

1. Get some time off. Don't work, just relax, read things, try to find real problems from people around you.

2. Start a project with someone. Anyone. Accountability works really good.

3. Try to concentrate on one things, making it good enough.

4. I've found that listening to entrepreneurship podcasts works wonders for motivation.

And to end this comment: the moment you've got $1 in your account you stopped being a wantrepreneur :)

ra00l··on Show HN: TaskBotJS – TypeScript and JavaScript background job processing
I'm planning to use a similar model OSS / commercial as well. Mike and Sidekiq is my inspiration for this. Good luck going further with the project and congrats for the launch!
ra00l··on Guide to Landing Page Optimization
For the last few years, I've read a lot on conversion optimization articles.

Reading this, summarizes 90% of the tips and tricks that I learned. Glad you HNers enjoy it!

ra00l··on Achieving 1.26% mcommerce conversion rate on a mobile ad network
Don't know about your target market but to me 10x increase sounds a whole lot better than 1.x conversion rate. + I would have loved to see a video with the checkout process
ra00l··on Achieving 1.26% mcommerce conversion rate on a mobile ad network
Razvan, congrats on the app.

It would have been interesting to see comparision before and after TwoTap. Still, 1.x conversion sounds good for mobile un-targeted traffic.

ra00l··on Ask HN: How to write a web app that will outlast the latest JS trends?
I am actually using AngularJS to rewrite an old project for a client. The reason I chose it is not because of popularity alone, but because it makes my code easier to read and it adds responsive interface to it.

Don't aim for a growing trend in regards to frameworks, aim for productivity and user experience.

ra00l··on Ask HN: Should I continue with my bootstrapped startup?
Don't give up! You have a lot to improve on your website, marketing & UX.

Here's what I think: 1. I only saw the "Feedback" widget AFTER seing the movie. Either make it bigger or point a big arrow on it. 2. I'd love if I could adnotate highlights with some text. 3. Your prices are too close together, so the cheapest one still seems expensive. Try testing with 2x price for Start up and 10x for enterprise.

BTW, I am using http://www.criticue.com to get feedback on my websites, you can use that too.

Good luck with the project!

ra00l··on Ask HN: Do you run a SAAS app?
I am working hard to launch www.biz-eye.com, a tool that monitors external factors(Blacklists, PR, MozRank, etc) of a website.
ra00l··on How HN convinced me to stop selling my product on CodeCanyon
duet looks and feels great. why don't you offer a hosted version(saas)?
ra00l··on Ask HN: Should we degrade our product to get a first, major customer?
If I were you, I'd try to find more customers within 1-2 months. Then, see if the current big customer is actually right in asking for a iOS version.
ra00l··on Show HN: Get Emails Notifications When Your Online Business's Reputation Changes
I changed that headline so many times, I've missed this. thanks for the heads up.
ra00l··on Show HN: Get Emails Notifications When Your Online Business's Reputation Changes
Would you, fellow HNers, use a service like this? I searched the web, and could not find anything similar...

Thanks for all your answer/suggestions.

ra00l··on Ask HN: Best Books read in 2013
Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
ra00l··on Ask HN: B2B SaaS Pricing
maybe do what other enterprise-y websites do? Don't show the price, get a phone/face-2-face discussion and evaluate the price depending on the customer?
ra00l··on Ask HN: What kind of side projects are you working on?
simple image optimization app: http://www.imgoptimize.com
ra00l··on ImageOptim cuts image filesizes in half. Why isn't everyone using it?
There are 3 tools that I use extensively:

* jpegMini, for removing EXIF info from jpegs

* optiPNG, for removing extra pallettes from pngs

* gifsickle, to optimize gif's

It's amazing on how much junk bytes you can have in your images. I used them for everything, from my picture collection to my site porfolio.

ra00l··on Ask HN: Is there a market for my startup idea?
did you gave the thought to copywrite infringement? What actually stops you to share that dvd with your extended family and friends and colleagues and so on?
ra00l··on Ask HN: New Laptop
weight: this is th most important. it's a laptop, you carry it around, so it should be confortable to carry

SSD: speeds everthing up

keyboard/trackpad: you're a developer, so you write a lot. Make sure it's confortable to do so

screen: you spend a lot of time in front of the screen, so make sure you get something that's easy on the eyes.

ra00l··on Ask HN:What are some SEO techniques for bootstrapped project
i would recommend guest posts: they work for google (you place a link to your website in the author info section), but they also bring other website traffic to you.
ra00l··on Ask HN: Sell framework licenses or open source it?
scott, thank you for a great advice. I won't make a decision based on suggestions posted here, but I will consider the pros and cons nevertheless
ra00l··on Ask HN: Sell framework licenses or open source it?
You're right about a trial version... Can be quite tricky.
ra00l··on Ask HN: Sell framework licenses or open source it?
I doubt it can be a business, but it could be a nice side income.
ra00l··on Ask HN: Sell framework licenses or open source it?
I like the idea of mixed license. However, do you think anyone uses a/b testing for personal/non-commercial purposes?
ra00l··on Ask HN: What is the Future of Bitcoin?
At the current price (also growing as we speak), I think it's difficult to use bitcoins for buying stuff. Everybody is hoarding them, hoping for increases; hence the growth.

How much will you pay for a coffe or an icecream? .0045 BTC? I see btc as a proof of concept that worked: easy, distributed way of transfering money.

ra00l··on Ask HN: How can we improve our software house website?
"And you can cancel the contract at any time." -> this is wrong. unless you're selling a saas project, you shouldn't do that. it makes you look less serious and would make the customer think twice, because cancelling goes both ways.

also, I would put the full name in the "team" page, and maybe a link to the linkedin profile.

good luck with projects!
