qweiopqweiop··on [dead]
I don't get this. You're allowed to protest about Palestine all you want, why do you have to associate that with a group who who broke a policewoman's back with a sledgehammer?
qweiopqweiop··on Prompt Injection as Role Confusion
Maybe I'm naïve, but is the heinous shit that bad? I'm essentially wondering if it's anything worse than you could discover on the internet already. Of course it makes it more accessible/easier, but I'm curious if it goes a level above what is technically discoverable right now.
qweiopqweiop··on Meta workers can opt out of being tracked at work up to 30 min
I agree other comapnies are just as culpable as Meta, but you think it's childrens fault they get addicted?

We barely know the damage social media does yet, it's not comparable to taking the first hit of drugs at all.

Agreed that tech workers need to take a look at themselves too, but also it's the execs and governments more too blame.

qweiopqweiop··on Meta launches Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp subscriptions
Those features sound so narcissistic to me
qweiopqweiop··on AI has a multiplying effect on existing technical skills
If you decide to dig deeper, it's an incredible tool. Getting a summary of the internals of something you only use as an API, then getting it to test you on it until you understand. It really allows you to learn a lot.
qweiopqweiop··on Anna's Archive Hit with $19.5M Default Judgment and Global Domain Takedown Order
Metadata? Pretty sure they scraped the files and released them too.
qweiopqweiop··on UK government replaces Palantir software with internally-built refugee system
Honestly, a web app to match people looking for and willing to provide accommodation is completely different to dealing with the health data of an entire country that is pre-existing in different formats. The first is essentially a CRUD app that should never have been given to Palantir.
qweiopqweiop··on EU to crack down on TikTok, Instagram's 'addictive design' targeting kids
Weird analogy when ads aren't addictive in the same way. Look at people around and about and they're all like mindless zombies flicking through Tiktok, not looking at ads. IMO this doesn't go far enough.
qweiopqweiop··on EU to crack down on TikTok, Instagram's 'addictive design' targeting kids
Not on web (or the mobile web page either). It's a half baked solution right now.
qweiopqweiop··on Singapore introduces caning for boys who bully others at school
I've always found that quite interesting. I agree women should have equal rights and never be discriminated against, but when push comes to shove I imagine men would be the ones called up to fight in wars for most countries around the world.

Should we call up women and put them in equal roles? I don't even know how you'd solve this so keen to hear any suggeations/thoughts

qweiopqweiop··on Talking to 35 Strangers at the Gym
100% this. As you say, language courses need content so a lot of it is talking about your life/opinions. Super easy to make friends after a few weeks of that if you make a tiny bit of effort
qweiopqweiop··on Sawe becomes first athlete to run a sub-two-hour marathon in a competitive race
I'm not an expert, so do some research, but it's probably a bit of a) you've trained yourself to burn fat more (a good thing) b) you're not exercising as strenously c) yes, if you ate you'd probably "perform better".

I'd recommend you to do your own research though.

But to add - yes, if you don't eat you will "bonk" on a long bike ride.

qweiopqweiop··on An update on recent Claude Code quality reports
I agree. My real fear if this is how the company works, how are systems with real implications (e.g. defense) being treated.
qweiopqweiop··on Over-editing refers to a model modifying code beyond what is necessary
Likewise, this felt like an early agent problem to me.
qweiopqweiop··on YouTube now world's largest media company, topping Disney
It genuinely disgusts me that the world's largest media company shoves addictive, short form content down users throats (especially young people). Anyone working on it at Google should be ashamed of what they're doing.
qweiopqweiop··on Bitcoin miners are losing on every coin produced as difficulty drops
Can someone convince me bitcoin mining isn't anything other than a huge waste of energy?
qweiopqweiop··on Reports of code's death are greatly exaggerated
It also needs a validation loop. Give it the compiler output and I bet it would fix that code even without examples/a blog post.
qweiopqweiop··on MoD sources warn Palantir role at heart of government is threat to UK security
I don't consider it derailing and I'm not going to apologise for asking questions :)
qweiopqweiop··on MoD sources warn Palantir role at heart of government is threat to UK security
What? I want to know more to make an informed decision. Do you think you're adding more to the discussion than me here?
qweiopqweiop··on MoD sources warn Palantir role at heart of government is threat to UK security
Are you sure they hold sensitive data themselves though? My understanding was they integrate their tools with customers own data and don't have access to it themselves (at least in theory).

Of course I agree that quote is insane and you can dislike them for political reasons, but I want to understand the technological fears and see if any are unfounded.

qweiopqweiop··on MoD sources warn Palantir role at heart of government is threat to UK security
Can someone explain why Palantir are seen as such a threat? My understanding is their product is a PowerBI++ and they don't host any user data themselves. Are people scared of backdoors?
qweiopqweiop··on 1M context is now generally available for Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6
Clearly so. To me it's the LLM writing style at least.
qweiopqweiop··on 1M context is now generally available for Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6
Are you using AI to write this? Please stop.
qweiopqweiop··on Labor market impacts of AI: A new measure and early evidence
I feel the same - would I like a meta paycheck, sure, but I couldn't look at myself in the mirror knowing what the company I'm giving my work to does to people's brains (not just the young, though that is the most reprehensible).
qweiopqweiop··on The three year myth
It's very interesting to read this, because it's exactly the vibe I got too.
qweiopqweiop··on The US is flirting with its first-ever population decline
Great point. I'd argue though, is it a utopia if we're not as happy?
qweiopqweiop··on Coding agents have replaced every framework I used
I was thinking the same. On mobile both frameworks and libraries make my life infinitely easier
qweiopqweiop··on Young adults report lower life satisfaction in Sweden
Sweden is such an interesting country. Arguably peak gender equality, but also child assassins and bombs right now. I hope they can sort out their issues.
qweiopqweiop··on How AI assistance impacts the formation of coding skills
It makes sense - juniors are coding faster but not understanding anything. Ironically it'll stop them getting more experienced despite feeling good. What I'm interested in is if the same applies for Senior+ developers. The soft signals are that people are feeling the atrophy but who knows...
qweiopqweiop··on How London became the rest of the world’s startup capital
10x more insufferable tech bros too? I've never lived there true, but I've spent some time there to know this place isn't for me.
