quaddoggy··on Turn off Apple Intelligence on macOS 27 and get its disk space back
Yes, but it’s death by a thousand cuts. I encourage you to see how much BS space is taken up by iMovie or Live Photos or whatever on your iPhone. If every team at Apple wants their percentage you end up with less.

Do you often go peering into the mouths of gift horses?
quaddoggy··on America.gov
Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed. Thought it was hilarious.
quaddoggy··on How high is current immigration to the United States in historical perspective?
Takeaway:

>If we look at the number of foreign-born residents, the 2024 estimate was the highest in the Census Bureau’s series, which stretches back to 1850. So, on that measure, the 2024 figure was unprecedented.

Inclusive of legal/illegal.

The woman wrote Jolene. If that doesn’t get you to heaven then nothing will.
quaddoggy··on Manabu Kosaka's Handmade Paper Sculptures
This guy gets serious bonus points for all the typography incorporated into the objects. Even if he didn’t include it the amount of detail is amazing.
quaddoggy··on If the American Dream Is Dead, No One Told the People Who Are Still Chasing It
Do you live in America? You seem to be under the mistaken impression that it is a zero sum game. It isn’t.

quaddoggy··on Never Enough
Perhaps some members of society will choose to swear off LLMs entirely. "Clauddites"?
quaddoggy··on Apple defeats liability for not scanning iCloud for CSAM
Ah, the CSAM saga. Very poorly handled by Apple. Suspect it may have taken Hair Force One off the shortlist of CEO succession.
quaddoggy··on Frank Lloyd Wright’s first home
If you have a late afternoon flight out of Chicago and free time earlier that day then you would have time to do a tour here. Very enjoyable.
quaddoggy··on What AI did to stackoverflow in a graph
Perhaps the harshest lesson of stackoverflow is that it represented what happens when you give programmer-types unfettered control of a culture. A bitter pill indeed.
quaddoggy··on 1Password for Claude: Give Claude access without giving up your credentials
What could go wrong?
quaddoggy··on Show HN: 18 Words
Nice! I don't mind the timer at all. A couple of suggestions: 1) if a chosen letter in the word is correct but the word itself is wrong it would be nice if the correct letter(s) is/are highlighted. For example, I had a couple letters in "calendar" correct but the word was wrong and it may have been good to know I was on the right track. 2) I didn't see a 'clear selection' option. This would have been useful. I saw the word with a few seconds left but didn't have time to reset and then time ran out.
quaddoggy··on FAANG Simulator
This re-triggered my FAANG burnout. Thanks.

Yes, because the city has proven to be so capable of solving the most basic civic issues it is now time the board of supervisors moves on to more advanced challenges.
quaddoggy··on Why Can't California Count?
This is insane. I remember when I was a kid that (with rare exception) you would pretty much know the results the same night, maybe the next day. I can’t help but notice that one party has dominated this state for decades. And they wail on and on about voter ID, etc. Everything is worse than it used to be.
