qikInNdOutReply··on Make the future bright again: On building a new philosophy of progress
The problem is not with progress. The problem is with denial of a dilema. Human baseline nature is unable to handle much more progress. Meaning, we are already very close to the killer drone dilema, and as even small crisis like the Covid virus have shown, once we come under pressure we fall apart. We can pretend all we want in good times, that we are strong and cohesive and we have good captains steering the ship. But in the bad times, its revealed these are just play actors, standing with unconnected steering wheels in light opera uniforms on deck of breaking vessels.

To think that handing more dangerous technology to such a unpatched humanity solves problems instead of just upping the stakes in a dangerous game, instead of patching the holes in our heads first, is contraproductive. We need to tame ourselves, before we are able to advance. Thus we need a realistic assesement of all our behaviour, a solid patching holding up to crisis and a almost stoic with apps as result, before progress can continue. Our hands are to flimsy for the tools we can make.

PS: " Automnomous suicide drones in city XXXXXX due to progress" should be the real title.

We shall have a brand new world, without middle management, a clean architecture, tabula rasa, begin a new, without self deprecation.

Shall be our battlecry. To drive the heathens, in acceptance of error states, to heaps and set ablaze will be our mission. Creativemode aka god wills it!

qikInNdOutReply··on Do other founders also feel the need to work alone sometimes?
Meetings should have a shared condition, as in everyone should either have something to share, or be a reciever of information.

The set of all people in the graph meet, and the topics are handled by largest group getting info and being done with the exchange.

Which also means, yes, half the group can get up mid meeting, and the remainder can fall apart into two seperat meetings.

qikInNdOutReply··on Why does a plastic-wrapped turkey sandwich cost $15 at the NYC airport?
The airport opens 3 sandwich shops midtown with outstanding prices. Problem solved.

Not every shop out to do no buisness is money laundring. Some are also regulator laundring.

He valiantly fought against Quantummechanisc to the bitter end? Which was a miss, but way more interesting, because it kept that cheeky oppenheimer and his entanglement from a distance in check.

Which is actually quite something, that marks actual legends. Even the defeats and ongoing retreat battles are more interesting then the "I-bring-my-own-pedestal-wherever-i-go" stories.

Maybe open source can project such a thing as "deathzone" around social networks once funding for growth hacking rounds out.

Once matrix is up to discord levels of features, and the horrors facebook will be willing to todo for one last sip of growth get revealed, things might turn sour fast. All it takes is the social carawanne lead animals leaving the beaten track and the whole network will unravel following them.

qikInNdOutReply··on Alien Artefacts
The months spend on building these, are often spent on becoming domain expert of one or several sub domains, build into the artifact. Which is not visible to the outside world. Its similar to hiring one or several consultants, but the consultants were that one person, digging into fluid dynamics and what not to write that one system. The problem is often not in the software, but in the "domain" self-schooling one has to go through, to understand the process happening. Like sending a person to university again, but on the clock with a deadline.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_inverse_square_root

Best example of an alien artifact i could come up with on the fly: The using parties do not understand it, but can reuse it. They will have a hard time modifying it. To understand the properties, a deep understanding of math is needed, and how the inverse square root can be mapped to the binary properties of a float.

The one thing i know is that the true creatives are busy with creating new things, not with collecting past glory and building rambling, halls of fame to themselves. Thats for hasbeens and wannabees.

As soon as somebody starts tuning that "I was, i have been, i ve done" harp, im out of the conversation. Most boring people to engage with and thus usually hearded into conversation ghettos, were they can one up one another for all eternity without interfering.

Once you become that sort of silverback, all growth is over and only slow decline awaits, while beating your chest.

qikInNdOutReply··on Microsoft is using illegal bribes in the Middle East and Africa
There is the ability of the population to organize and vote out and and all corrupt influence. Usually the citzenry is kept down via media and culture, but as several revolutions have shown, the old culture can get thrown out hard and fast, if the population has enough.
qikInNdOutReply··on Microsoft is using illegal bribes in the Middle East and Africa
Company "fasttracked" worker visas to china, are basically olympic sport visas etc. reassigned for a bribe.
qikInNdOutReply··on Microsoft is using illegal bribes in the Middle East and Africa
Yes. Sadly yes. But its not spread societywide. You do not bribe your way out of law enforcement etc. You do not have that society wide tax on just "breathing" - yet. There is also not yet, the worst kind of corruption, were incompetence in education gets through and enshrined to entrench other corrupt incompetence and finally destroys the mechanism to dislodge incompetence.

Were a visit to the doctor might kill you, because they all got their diploma because they know the same family and never spent a day awake and sober in university. And the health minister is from that family. And the whole anti-corruption self-repair mechanism is dysfunct, cause its married to that familys cousin.

qikInNdOutReply··on Microsoft is using illegal bribes in the Middle East and Africa
Yes, they do. They all do. You need a rule of law, to tame corruption and no non-democracy has that.

The attempt to deploy western culture globally has failed miserably, generating jobs who exist merley to errect a veneer of compliance.

Behind the thin layer of paint, the old culture and world continus happily on unphased by the hysterics. And it was always painfully obvious for those in the know.

For example there was a law in many arab countries, that you could not do buisness with israel and do buisness with them. Yet, when you opened company location maps, there they were, side by side, right next to the company "morals & mission statements" tab. The obvious answer, bribes in broad daylight.

Now, as the western exported "cultural revolution" winds down in obvious failure, all that veneer fades away and the ugly old world reappears as if it was never gone.

Very soon, the workers with confiscated passports might as well be called slaves again. Its a sad, depressing state of affairs, but then it was for the non deluded befor this point in time too.

Are you aware how lowlevel hardware often works? Its basically .. write value 0xDEADBEEF to adress 0x00A0. Wait three cycles, while the underlying hardware performs some steps, to switch into a different mode, then continue with operations in said mode.

This seems something that is very unintuitive, even with the given documentation (which one often does not get). Often enough, all that is available is the assembly itself (thus reverse engineer). So how does chat gpt do with just the assembly? Can it write documentation on a given hardware plattform, just given the assembly?

qikInNdOutReply··on South Korea to give $490 allowance to reclusive youths to help them leave house
Ah, a little light carrotsnack, after which the beatings can continue until working moral improves. A society so hostile, that people withdraw from it completely is surely able to change the situation, without any changes to itself.

I think the best idea would be hikikomori villages. As in standalone towns, were the rest of society is forbidden to enter. Allow them to start something fresh, untainted by the old horror.

qikInNdOutReply··on Long Live the Free Software Foundation
But that is a insane endavour. Like, new hardware appears every day, to reverse engineer all of it, thats the ultimate futile endavour i can think of. Why not get a more usefull stone if one wants to be sisyphos?

The bits of the universe you dented were your kids, and they have the problems now the guy above has. Nice for you that the world worked out for you from the get go, but if its happier for your box, no need to rub it into everyones face. Seems to me, the default for developers in not your experience. Guess its sort of self selected for, with the job filtering for the neuros who make it to it.

Why does someone have to appreciate other sexual orientations? I dont run around demanding somebody be forced to appreciate mine. Grumpily ignoring other peoples choices to life and let life is good enough for society to work. The world is not there to be a comfy blanket..

For everything over it, nvidia would have to expose the byzantine monstrosity that is the drivers they wrote, that detect games and hotswap the buggy developer shadercode out for working nvidia shader code. And they could do that for older titles. It just wouldnt be neat.
