pzumk··on Google Maps now requires WiFi scanning to use navigation
I always liked Waze but I don't like Google. I've been blocking as many Google domains as possible but still kept some unblocked just to use Waze (and YouTube). Google changed something, Waze stopped working, I switched to Apple Maps. No regrets.
pzumk··on Show HN: Web page that parses and explains the label on a bike tire
Nice, well done. I'll bookmark that one!

Let us know how much you make with those Amazon ref links while being HN's #1

pzumk··on Almost all of the top subreddits are moderated by the same people
There are a more than a handful good and active German subreddits. Especially finance-related one like r/finanzen (113,151 readers) and r/mauerstrassenwetten (109,592), or subreddits like r/de (480,614), r/600eur (33,871), and r/germanrap (22,459 readers).

But I agree with you and personally spend most of my time on reddit on international subs. But it doesn't make sense for a German to spend much time on r/personalfinance for example because it's too US-centric. That's where r/finanzen (and r/mauerstrassenwetten (like r/wallstreetbets)) is the better place.

pzumk··on Almost all of the top subreddits are moderated by the same people
Reddit launched an International Ambassador Program a few months ago[1] and they are paying German power users 20 EUR per hour to create German niche subreddits + 250 EUR bonus for each launched subreddit[2]

pzumk··on Crypto Market Tops $1T as Bitcoin Breaches $37,000
I sold at 20k, got back in at 30k, now we’re almost at 40k and that’s where I’m selling again. But I’m actually expecting it to go as high as 50k.
pzumk··on Ask HN: Microsoft blocked my outlook.com account for using a VPN. Any ideas?

How do you even bookmark a tweet nowadays? Does this feature still exist? Because I can’t find it.

pzumk··on Apple (Pro) Mouse (2014)
Yeah he’s a fanboy:

> Fun fact: the author of this article now works at Apple in the Design team (@ArmandGrillet, 2 hours ago)

pzumk··on Apple (Pro) Mouse (2014)
And he unfortunately stopped posting to minimallyminimal. One of my favourite websites of all times.
pzumk··on It’s Time to Get Back to RSS
Apple News is not available in Germany. The only thing we get is the non-customisable News-Widget.
pzumk··on Timeline of the Far Future
I haven’t watched them again now to check if it’s one of them you’re searching for, but these two videos have been posted everywhere last year:

Just forward the domain to the $ 120.000 Banana [1] or something even more ridiculous.

pzumk··on How sharing a bed changed my sleep (2017)
I’ve always been a pretty good sleeper. I’ve been going to bed at 22:00, fell asleep at 22:05, and woke up at 5:45 after sleeping like a rock.

When my gf and I moved together, this changed.

I still tried to go to bed at 22:00 but sometimes it was an hour later or so. My gf goes to bed between 23:00 and 00:00, which always woke me up. She also needed to go to the toilet once at night, which woke me up again.

But to be fair, when I got up in the morning she was waking up too because she could hear me showering.

When she was working a few hundred kilometres away for a month I noticed how much better my sleep was. That’s when I bought a second bed and moved to our guest room on work-days. Well, sometimes we want to cuddle and fall asleep together, but I’d say 9/10 work-days we’re sleeping in separate beds and it’s g r e a t.

pzumk··on I Learned French in 12 Months
Interesting! Just today I thought about learning french or spanish with Duolingo. I started with spanish because it seems to be easier to learn. The article was really inspiring tbh, now I really want to stick to it for a year or so.
pzumk··on Apollo: An iOS Reddit app built for power and speed
You could’ve always copied the URL and just opened Apollo. The app detects the Reddit-Link ask you if you want to open the URL inside Apollo. But I’m using Opener too, it’s a great app not only for Reddit links.
pzumk··on I Add 3-25 Seconds of Latency to Every Site I Visit
They probably wouldn’t because it’s too specific. I’m in Germany and figured I’d just connect to one of the currently most used VPN Servers in New Zealand. Makes my connection slow when I can’t procrastinate or want to reduce screen time without actually blocking apps by enabling iOS Screen Time.
pzumk··on Swiss crypto company backdoored by CIA for decades
Post from yesterday: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22309478

And the day before: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22297963

[Edited to be less annoying and more useful, sorry about that]

pzumk··on Crypto AG
Thank you, I knew I’ve seen this already on HN.
pzumk··on Crypto AG
You’re probably wondering why this is relevant right now.

> In 2020, an investigation carried out by the Washington Post, Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF), and Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen (SRF) revealed that Crypto AG was, in fact, entirely controlled by the CIA and the BND. The project, initially known by codename "Thesaurus" and later as "Rubicon" operated from the end of the Second World War until 2018.

pzumk··on N26 will be leaving the UK
Earlier this week I sent money from ING to N26, took them 55 minutes. Then I sent money from Postbank to N26 and it took them 24 hours.

This is not “instant”, but 1 hour is much better than 1 day.

pzumk··on N26 will be leaving the UK
Which is not a hidden charge because they tell you in their app and via email, also when registering an account.

N26 wants you to use their cards (or Apple Pay), and to be honest I have not been withdrawing any money from an ATM for 5+ months. I’m from Hannover, Germany.

pzumk··on Living without a SIM card
Thanks!
pzumk··on Living without a SIM card
> It worries me to read that the US immigration department are using anonymised cell tower histories to trace people,

It worries me to read you’re still using Facebook even though it looks like you value privacy. Why’s that? (Not trolling, serious question)

pzumk··on My productivity app for the past 12 years has been a single .txt file
How do you format your Apple Note?
pzumk··on My productivity app for the past 12 years has been a single .txt file
I have thought about different apps for this txt-approach for iOS, and you’re right. iA Writer seems to be perfect for this.

pzumk··on Show HN: CallStop – Superhuman for your phone number
That’s because there’s actually a law against it. I remember some years ago we always had Werbeanrufe on our landline. We don’t have a landline anymore but I’ve not gotten a single spam call for years now (except from my own home internet or mobile provider, which isn’t “spam” per se but still annoying because they sometimes call you five times a day instead of emailing you about some minor things).
