pyrocat··on Google Is Developing Its Own Uber Competitor
Drivers have basically zero power here, so I'm guessing Uber would just update the driver side of the app to always report location. No need to add incentives when you can just make it mandatory with minimum pushback (from Uber's PoV). Assuming they don't already.
pyrocat··on “I paid $25 for an Invisible Boyfriend, and I think I might be in love”
Books are great for making you feel something about fictional (or non fictional) characters, but they've got nothing on games when it comes to making you feel something about yourself.
pyrocat··on Hands-On with Microsoft's New Holographic Goggles
I noticed that the promo videos all show you doing things indoors, in more or less private settings. Your living room, your kitchen, your workspace. Contrasted to initial Google Glass video (skydiving, jogging, meeting for lunch .etc) I think it's safe to say Microsoft has learned from Google's mistakes.
pyrocat··on UX Check
I'm using the latest version of Chrome on Windows 7 and I'm not seeing your errors.
pyrocat··on Google's new bus is for the people
I, for one, welcome our new feudal corporate overlords. But seriously, it's great that Google is doing this. I just wish they didn't have to.
pyrocat··on Abusing CSS3's nth-child selector to invent new ones
I've read the ":NTH-OF-M-CHILD" section about five times through now and I still don't understand what objects you're trying to select or why. A clearer explanation would be helpful.

"For example, we can style the third element, if and only if it’s one of five children:" That makes sense, except your example has a red background, not a green one, and for some reason the 9th row has a red tile, which doesn't match your requirement that it be "one of five children". Very confusing.

pyrocat··on $35 Quad Core ARMv7 PC
what version? B+?
pyrocat··on EFF in Court to Argue NSA Collection from Internet Backbone Is Unconstitutional
You can easily set up a monthly donation as well, so you don't have to remember :) That's what I did, and I still got the T-shirt.
pyrocat··on EFF in Court to Argue NSA Collection from Internet Backbone Is Unconstitutional
That's the hypocrisy I was getting at, yeah.
pyrocat··on EFF in Court to Argue NSA Collection from Internet Backbone Is Unconstitutional
The same way making a copy of something is theft.
pyrocat··on Map the Banks

first time I've seen CSS3 columns in the wild, pretty neat.

pyrocat··on The United States needs to overhaul its law-enforcement system
If only. All of the actions recommended in this article are moderate, common sense changes that benefit the populous as a whole and will never happen. The police have no interest in changing practices that benefit them, and any politician that tries to oppose their will is going to get called "soft on crime", a nonsense attack that somehow still persists in our political dialog.
pyrocat··on In Seattle, a Sinking Feeling About a Troubled Tunnel
You apparently really don't like the Stranger, but that article is incredibly well researched and reasoned. Lots of valid points that are vindicated in retrospect. The only other notable papers in Seattle (Times + Weekly) do a piss poor job of covering government accountability.
pyrocat··on In Seattle, a Sinking Feeling About a Troubled Tunnel
A downright prescient 2010 article from Seattle's local alternative newspaper http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/what-could-possibly-go-wr...
pyrocat··on In Seattle, a Sinking Feeling About a Troubled Tunnel
The light rail extension is a much more cost effective, useful, and popular project than this debacle of a tunnel.
pyrocat··on Moss Graffiti
I feel like I saw this on stumbleupon like 10 years ago
pyrocat··on IE Web Development Support Moving to Stack Overflow
It'll be a nice change from condescending Microsoft employees insisting the problem is on your end. Generalizing of course, but that's pretty much been my experience with the official forums.
pyrocat··on The Unbalanced Design of Super Smash Bros
I'm hoping to see Yoshi come up in the ranks because of aMSa.
pyrocat··on The Other Side of Diversity
That's not what they said.

pyrocat··on Mothers’ brains show similar responses to her baby and her dog
You must be fun at parties
pyrocat··on When the Guy Making Your Sandwich Has a Noncompete Clause
> However, generalizing the skill set and struggles of a few to an entire wage class of labor is absurd

You mean like you did earlier in your post? I backed my claims up with data, you backed yours up with an anecdote about trust fund babies and college kids.

pyrocat··on When the Guy Making Your Sandwich Has a Noncompete Clause
> A great majority of our employees aren't poor, or struggling to get by, but college kids who are looking to make a little extra cash and get some work experience.

pyrocat··on When the Guy Making Your Sandwich Has a Noncompete Clause
You're very out of touch with the life of a minimum wage worker. I'm not sure what I can do to fix that, but maybe just step back and think about who you're defending and why.
pyrocat··on When the Guy Making Your Sandwich Has a Noncompete Clause
"It costs much less to start a small business"

Ok, I'll bite. In what way does starting a small business "cost less"? Less than what? Have you ever tried to get a loan to start a retail restaurant? It's incredibly difficult to get the funding necessary, especially in an industry with such low margins.

pyrocat··on Tilde.Club: I had a couple drinks and woke up with 1,000 nerds
Yeah I heard it originated in Korea, as a way of signifying a light hearted teasing / sarcasm (e.g. "see you at the finish line~")
pyrocat··on Microsoft Xim
High quality photos means a big data hit, for those that don't have unlimited data. It also puts your photos in the cloud, which may not be desirable.
pyrocat··on UW fusion reactor concept could be cheaper than coal
Neat! I wonder what the next steps for commercial use would be, since the patent is filed through the UW's Center for Commercialization and funded by the US Department of Energy. Could BP or whoever come in and say "we're interested" and throw money at them to build a full scale reactor (in a few years)?
pyrocat··on “Not” Neutrality?
I wish they linked to the chart or study that provided that info, instead of just saying "a study". I had to go digging to find this https://www.sandvine.com/downloads/general/global-internet-p...
pyrocat··on “Not” Neutrality?
Source? I know Netflix is popular, but that seems excessive.
