ptbello··on Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley reaches one billion views [video]
And then of course there's "Never Gonna Give Your Teen Spirit up"

ptbello··on Scientists develop ‘cheap and easy’ method to extract lithium from seawater
Yes, but only in the form of carbonate tablets
ptbello··on Help HN: Google just blocked my site as deceptive site
This is probably the root cause. e.g. Mozilla shut down the "firefox send" service because of their inability to stop inadvertently hosting malware
ptbello··on PayPal to allow cryptocurrency buying, selling and shopping on its network
Paypal's crappiness was definitely the leading reason for Stripe.

I wonder what is Strope's stance towards blockchain? Will they now also move into blockchain like PayPal, but properly?

ptbello··on Signaling Virtuous Victimhood as Indicators of Dark Triad Personalities [pdf]
I see this behaviour every day. There is even a Neapolitan expression for this: "chiagni e fotti" [1], which could be translated as "cry and screw (others)".

ptbello··on Show HN: Dashboard for tracking insider trading at S&P 500 companies
> I recently analyzed the trading activity of Senators [0]

How is this relevant? Surely any senator knowingly engaging in insider trading wouldn't do so directly. They would get someone else to profit from the info and give back to them in either untraceable or legit ways.

ptbello··on The Wave that changed the world (2017)
This must have been a strong ispiration for the aptly named "The Wave" (2008), although I couldn't find any reference either side.

ptbello··on “The artists live their life, and I live my laundry life.”

ptbello··on Show HN: Goldpinger – Visualize Kubernetes cluster connectivity
+1 for the clever naming, got me grinning
ptbello··on Ask HN: Which abandoned proprietary software would you resurrect?
Interesting how the top comments are about Microsoft products discontinued years ago. Nowadays google's the one shutting down products people love (reader, inbox...). Looks like an inevitable phase in the unicorn lifecycle.
ptbello··on Amazon raises minimum wage to $15 for all US employees
This. I just made the exact same comment[1] before I saw yours

ptbello··on Amazon raises minimum wage to $15 for all US employees
Call me cynical, but it could also be that AMZN will be automating all those lower paid jobs - as in: soon they won't even need 7.25$/H employees because they'll have machines.

In this scenario, 15$/H would just be their current price point for the following tier of bottom of the chain not-yet-automated tasks.

ptbello··on Ask HN: As a technical founder what is the best business book you've read?
"How to Talk so Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk".

ptbello··on Formation of Tesla Advanced Automation Germany
true, but this kind of information will eventually leak; job title and basic insider knowledge can take you quite far already
ptbello··on Formation of Tesla Advanced Automation Germany
Let the poaching begin. BMW, Porsche and friends will better come up with solid retainers, lest lose their top talent.
ptbello··on AlphaGo beats Lee Sedol 3-0 [video]
Does anyone have insights on how a game between two Alpha-Gos would play out?
ptbello··on One of Paris’s last horse meat butchers discusses the disappearance of his trade
I spend quite a lot of time in Parma.

If you happen to go there, know that the best pesto di cavallo shop is the one at the beginning of Via Emilia Est, just off the square to the right.

It's a tiny place, always choc full - you would probably recognise it by the queue spilling out on the pavement.

They only do pesto di cavallo, offering different varieties and even ready made pesto di cavallo tacos!

ptbello··on Confessions of an ex-TSA agent
It cites a "legal department", which is probably enough to make it pretty Kafkian as well

ptbello··on Wordpress Bootstrap 3 Starter Theme – MIT License
Good job! I did the same a while ago https://github.com/ptbello/_strap

it's a medley between bootstrap 2.3.* and automattic's _s theme. Haven't got round to updating it to bootstrap 3 yet. I guess that's what the Christmas break will be for.

ptbello··on Microsoft's dystopian pitch for remote work
The point is that it's not ok for your boss to call for work at 7pm. It isn't.

Increasing your efficiency in responding to that call is a step in the wrong direction.

Plus the images show someone actively ignoring the person they are with to do work on the side, which also isn't ok in my book.
