Not HDMI, but SDI over fiber is basically this. It can be muxed and is used in the broadcast industry for long haul camera feeds.

psophis··on Some Useful Bash Aliases (2022)
Neat, thanks!
psophis··on Some Useful Bash Aliases (2022)
How do you do that? Is it part of your PROMPT?
psophis··on Some Useful Bash Aliases (2022)
I use this zsh function and define my git alias in my git config.

    # No arguments: `git status`
    # With arguments: acts like `git`
    function g() {
      if [[ $# > 0 ]]; then
        git $@
      else
        git st
      fi
    }

    # Complete g like git
    compdef g=git
psophis··on Elon Musk makes $43B unsolicited bid to take Twitter private
The argument [0] has been made that Twitter was why the US had as good of a response to COVID-19 as it did.

psophis··on Cloudflare: Is anyone else seeing DNS outages?
I'm getting some. 1.1.1.1 isn't responding to any DNS requests for me.

psophis··on Show HN: Vim gf-command improved
What's the difference between this and a properly setup file type plugin? As here [0] with python lets you open imported modules using `gf`.

psophis··on Termshark – A terminal UI for tshark, inspired by Wireshark
This is very cool. Though I’ve always done remote wireshark captures:

    ssh root@sniff_server_ip -p port tcpdump -U -s0 'not port 22' -i eth0 -w - | wireshark -k -i -
Source: https://serverfault.com/questions/362529/how-can-i-sniff-the...

It works very well on low volume captures.

psophis··on Uber seeking to buy self-driving cars: source
Uber is positioned to be the platform for transportation as a service. In their ideal world no one would own a car. Owning a car, like a plane or boat, would be come a luxury item.
psophis··on 36TB FreeNAS Home Server Build
There's a very active subreddit[0] that discusses a lot of stuff like this. Worth checking out if you've considered having a server in your home.

psophis··on Square files for IPO
I don't think there would be any benefit. Square was revolutionary when they were the only one with mobile card reader technology. Now everyone has it. The only thing they have going for them is their _brand_. Apple historically hasn't bought anything that they can easily do on their own. Google much the same.
psophis··on More than 10k problems fixed through 'Improve Detroit' app
That is impressive. I haven't used the Seattle one yet.

It sounds like City of Boston has the resources to do things as they break or wear out. They just don't have the man power to check all the light bulbs or pothole as they break.

psophis··on More than 10k problems fixed through 'Improve Detroit' app
Seattle has a "Find it, Fix it" app [0].

Apples framework for ad blockers is 64bit only.
psophis··on Safari is more energy-efficient than Chrome and Firefox on OS X
There is quite a bit of magic that Safari is doing. One example is that it complies javascript down to byte code in LLVM.

psophis··on 3-Way Disk Mirrors with ZFS on Linux
mkfile is standard on Solaris. On Debain use fallocate:

  $ fallocate -l 128MB /home/user/disk1
psophis··on 3-Way Disk Mirrors with ZFS on Linux
Yes they would. But you should never use this in production. Only for the purpose of learning/testing ZFS.
psophis··on 3-Way Disk Mirrors with ZFS on Linux
A much easier way to test ZFS configurations is to use files instead[0]:

  $ mkfile 128m /home/user/disk1
  $ mkfile 128m /home/user/disk2
  $ mkfile 128m /home/user/disk3
  $ zfs create tank mirror /home/user/disk1 /home/user/disk2 /home/user/disk3

psophis··on Show HN: Learn Swift
Slight tangent, but are there any recommended guides/books/videos for leaning the iOS frameworks with swift?

I have recently started programming on iOS with swift. I got my head around the language just not any of the frameworks, specifically UIKit.
