prvc··on Has the 'Sexlessness Epidemic' Been Overstated?
>On average, the people you know are more socially successful than the people you don't know.

It depends if "you" refers to a specific person, which it seems to do in context.

prvc··on Has the 'Sexlessness Epidemic' Been Overstated?
Maybe so, but not necessarily true a priori.
prvc··on Tracking developer build times to decide if the M3 MacBook is worth upgrading
How about: incentivize efficient use of resources by making devs use slower computers!
prvc··on Prompt engineering
Planning can be implemented (at high computational cost) trivially by generating hidden responses.

New models can be trained to natively query "authoritative" sources of information, such as databases and computer algebra systems.

New models can be used to transform prompts into more effective ones (along the lines of TFA).

prvc··on Prompt engineering
Frankly, this shouldn't be necessary. There are so many easy gains to be had in implementing an LLM-based chat app which do not require any theoretical advances compared to what we have now. All that's needed is a bit of elbow grease from the implementers.
prvc··on Rising costs mean food companies are making snacks, sodas taste worse
>Someone should make a website to track changes

Why not you?

>Ferrero angered fans in 2017 by reducing the amount of cocoa in Nutella

Hazelnut spread was originally invented in response to a shortage of cocoa.

prvc··on OpenCola
How does this differ from a typical generic cola recipe?
prvc··on Apple Is Holding the Final Nail for X’s Coffin
Tl;dr: Apple can remove the X app from its app store (as it can always do to any app). That's what the article's author, Dave Lee, and, presumably, disclaimer notwithstanding, its publisher, Bloomberg, seem to want to happen at least.
prvc··on 'Glacier mice' baffle scientists
Because the terrain is never perfectly uniform, the pattern might not be evident within a small period of time, like one day.
prvc··on 'Glacier mice' baffle scientists
No, just over time.
prvc··on 'Glacier mice' baffle scientists
>The factors that orchestrate their coordinated movements is still a mystery.

I'd propose that the path of the sun biases the mice's movements in the same direction, since the ice in their shadows will be colder.

prvc··on Sigil II, a Doom WAD from J.Romero, has been released
Also, today is the 30-year anniversary of DOOM's release.
prvc··on Apple cuts off Beeper Mini's access
Or for any kind of journalist.
prvc··on High Court rules that Getty vs. Stability AI case can proceed
You wouldn't look at a car.
prvc··on High Court rules that Getty vs. Stability AI case can proceed
>There's a massive jump in that logic, which is basically equating a large neural net to being exactly the same as a singular human being.

It does not assume that.

prvc··on High Court rules that Getty vs. Stability AI case can proceed
If including a copyrighted work in an AI training corpus is theft because of its influence on some artificial neural net, then so is viewing it by a human being, whose memory is now somehow the property of the copyright holder, an absurd conclusion.
prvc··on Gemini AI
If a reference to a brain-uploading & merging with AI scenario, well, that's quite ambitious.
prvc··on Russell's Paradox of ghostwriters
Those two categories are vague and non-exhaustive (and non-exclusive). Also, if the Ghostwriter writes his biography himself (entirely), in most senses of the word, that doesn't mean he "helped" himself to do it. So, no paradox at all there, and certainly not a Russellian one.
prvc··on Russell's Paradox of ghostwriters
Where is the paradox?
prvc··on OpenAI Committed to Buying $51M of AI Chips from a Startup Backed by Sam Altman
If true, would anything about this even be untoward or unusual?
prvc··on Henry Kissinger Has Died

prvc··on [dead]
>X sues Media Matters to silence moderation criticism

Title should be changed to "X sues Media Matters", to eliminate inaccurate editorialization.

prvc··on Sam Bankman-Fried Convicted
Will he be held in custody before sentencing?
prvc··on Nvidia Trains LLM on Chip Design

prvc··on Windows 11 adds native support for RAR, 7-Zip, Tar and other archive formats
Good.
prvc··on Luxury beliefs are status symbols (2022)
The phenomenon of the migration of upper-middle or middle class (that is, those on the margin of luxury) holders of the beliefs mentioned in TFA from blue to red states is strong evidence of his thesis.
prvc··on Mark Zuckerberg Is Coming for Sam Altman and OpenAI
Paid article. Curious what the takeaway is from the paywalled portion.
prvc··on Large Balloon Reflector: a potentially game-changing antenna design
I assume this is based on a spherical cap's being "close enough" to a paraboloid, for the purposes of this design.
prvc··on AI Reduces the World to Stereotypes
The diversity-industrial-complex reduces the world to bias and oppression.
