profinger··on Apple Unveils the iPad Pro
I am howling thank you so much for finding this!
profinger··on How Design Works (2012)
Agreed. It's just overwhelming to look at!
profinger··on Visualizing machine learning
Agreed 100%. I personally hate this effect everywhere that it's implemented. This usage is ok relative to most but it's still awful. Why can't we just get a nice post with some pictures along the side? Everything doesn't have to be fancy and difficult to register.
profinger··on How JetBrains Lost Years of Customer Loyalty in Just a Few Hours
I hate this model in general just because I can't just pay a larger amount once and have it forever.

Aside from that, this reinforces my coding minimalism. I don't have a need for all of these weird extra things that just make "life easier" about 5% of the time while screwing with normal typing 95% of the time (in my case at least). I am perfectly happy with standard visual studio and notepad for anything that isn't .net.

profinger··on Inside Popcorn Time – the world's fastest growing piracy site
Never heard of the site until this article but this is the problem we've seen all too much. Most of the time, there's no paid service offering what we want. If there is, the price is unreasonable or the service is ridiculously locked down. This is the same thing that happened with music in the 90s etc. Finally, something like Spotify came around and made it so that music was actually AVAILABLE for us to explore not "you have to purchase this if you even want to know what the artist sounds like."

If you want to watch football games online and you find that it's going to either cost you $20/game for only your home team's games and they cut out the announcers or something and double up on the commercials to pay for the network AND to pay for the game(hypothetical) and then you find that you can watch it on a third party streaming site for free and have your favorite announcer doing commentary, you're bound to not want to pay the ridiculous amount for it and move to using some less-than-wholesome service.

There's no real solution to any of this aside from a paradigm shift. Yes, money is the motivation for creating a lot of this stuff. However, people are just going to continue to find ways around terrible ridiculous lock downs.

profinger··on The Future of Food on Urban Rooftops
On top of that just picture most of today's people. "Well I'll take 10 of these tomatos and sell 8 of them! Muahah!"
profinger··on The xkcd survey
I think my favorite is Google Correlate. I have no idea what the motorola tundra is but it got super popular on 12/21/2008 and then slowly fell out of interest by 2014.
profinger··on The xkcd survey
I picked 72 for the first one and 18 for the second one. That's what came to mind. lol
profinger··on Google Will Soon Start Punishing Mobile Sites that Use Annoying App Install Ads
Be really mad and use AskJeeves. lmao
profinger··on Google Will Soon Start Punishing Mobile Sites that Use Annoying App Install Ads
I always enter something along the lines of <expletive>@<expletive>.<expletive>. My hope is that they'll waste money on trying to email it and then get a bounceback that the email failed to be delivered.
profinger··on Facebook's New Spam-Killer Hints at the Future of Coding
It's WIRED of course it's bad.
profinger··on LSD – Line Square Dot Game
Bubbles is bad ass as well!
profinger··on Netflix Is Dumping Anti-Virus, Presages Death of an Industry
Pretty well summarized!
profinger··on LSD – Line Square Dot Game
I love it! Interestingly enough though, the ball goes through line intersections.
profinger··on An Introduction to Sine-Wave Speech (2007)
And now you're self aware!
profinger··on How “oldschool” graphics worked [video]
This was very awesome!! Thank you!
profinger··on [dead]
Great content? A survey asking people to give you a bunch of their personal information? I'd be willing to bet that it got flagged and that's why.
profinger··on Show HN: ReelSurvey – Acquire customer insights from exiting visitors
This kind of crap needs to stop happening. I'm there to read your site not fill in your marketing garbage. When I exit and something like this pops up I either ignore it or, if I'm feeling goofy, I'll start filling it out and tell you complete garbage information. Also, if there's a textbox, I'll usually tell you how stupid your methods are and how obnoxious you're being.
profinger··on Show HN: ReelSurvey – Acquire customer insights from exiting visitors
No, it's not just you. If I get a survey like this I purposefully screw with it because I can't stand this crap. This kind of garbage needs to burn.
profinger··on How I Hacked Amazon’s $5 WiFi Button
That page is absurd. I'm on a pretty good internet connection and the image in the background, of sheep for some stupid reason, was loading slowly in chunks. I'm really starting to hate pages that think they need giant stupid high-res images in the background.
profinger··on Brains Sweep Themselves Clean of Toxins During Sleep (2013)
I've used sleepyti.me a lot when trying to pick bed times for 1 off events. Thank you for your help in waking up at the proper interval!
profinger··on Comcast VP: 300GB data cap is “business policy,” not technical necessity
And total crap.
profinger··on Confessions of a Grown-Up Kick-Scooter Rider
Also, I hated the razr lux a5. I literally bought it and took it back before leaving the parking lot. The foot space was so tiny that I couldn't even fit one full foot on it. At least, as far as I can remember.
profinger··on Confessions of a Grown-Up Kick-Scooter Rider
I don't understand the shame here. I've been wanting to buy one of these for the efficiency but just haven't had the money or found one made for adults that isn't way above what I want to spend. I'd love this. Are you telling me there are people out there with so little to worry about that they judge people who are riding a scooter? lol
profinger··on Robinhood: At a Play Store Near You
It's probably because you're running an old version of android. I don't know that you are but that is a likely reason.
profinger··on Show HN: Careers for people not going to college, built with Meteor
I always assumed that experience outweighed degrees at a certain point. At say, 40, what would a degree from 15 years ago matter?
profinger··on NY Personalized License Plates – Accepted and Rejected
How is it possible that 2 plates had the same text and were accepted within 2-3months of each other? There are a ton in the accepted file that are equal to each other.

FTG for example was accepted on both 6/18/2013 and 8/27/2013
