praneshp··on Sheryl Sandberg Misled Congress About Facebook’s Conscience
Thanks for the link, as well as the quote!

Now watch people fall over each other to defend Nazi-themed dog gifs.

praneshp··on How true hackers write JavaScript
I get one of your points, that some sites should work in the bottom of Africa. But there is a counter-point here, no? Why should a site be developed for the worst of connections out there? Is there a middle point here?
praneshp··on Traveler sues US Customs and Border Protection over iPhone search and seizure
Sorry, my (poorly put) attempt at a joke was that durians declare themselves.
praneshp··on Traveler sues US Customs and Border Protection over iPhone search and seizure
Lol I don't think you need to declare a durian
praneshp··on The neglected benefits of the commute
I pity you all with hellish winters.

Sorry, could not resist. I envy your commute (I used to do that, now I do mountain view -> SF)

praneshp··on Man sues over Google’s “Location History” fiasco, case could affect millions
Is there a HN guideline about this?
praneshp··on U.S. government seeks Facebook help to wiretap Messenger
Thanks, that's the sort of thing I was looking for.
praneshp··on U.S. government seeks Facebook help to wiretap Messenger
> To be honest, I don't think people should cry they have a mandate from the people with less than a 55% majority

Can I ask what 55 is? (for instance, in India 66 is a special percentage required for some bills).

praneshp··on Blind: an anonymous, corporate social network
There is a minimum user limit. I tried to join at my last place of work but you need 35 people to join.
praneshp··on Launch HN: The Buttermilk Company (YC S18) – Homemade Indian Food in 5 Minutes
Not sure how OP's product is different, but MTR's food is not good at all. Even assuming that a $2.50 pack is enough for you (I find that I need two at most times for my regular hunger), it's not good to eat at all. I usually reserve it for national park trips only (the convenience of popping the pack into boiling water or into the microwave for 2 mins is unbeatable).

As far as authenticity goes, most of their stuff isn't. I would actually put them in the "very very bad attempt" category. But it could just represent the food of local area where they started (and that's not really acceptable, given that they make a wide range of stuff).

praneshp··on Tinder founders sue parent companies Match and IAC for at least $2B
You should continue reading the statement. While they use a commonly used phrase, there is some colorful language there.
praneshp··on How to Lose $3B of Bitcoin in India
I read that as tangents, not opposites
praneshp··on FCC admits it was never actually hacked
Playing devil's advocate: Was there something that ensured only American citizens (or residents or some relevant filter) could submit comments? I suspect there was a fair bit of trolling as well (not excusing the lie that they were hacked though).
praneshp··on Facebook has asked U.S. banks to share financial information about customers
Thanks for the link. I always thought that story was urban legend.
praneshp··on Reddit Security Incident
> common knowledge among non-technical people

You should talk to non-technical people when you get some time.

praneshp··on Removing Bad Actors on Facebook
Relevant enough for you to type 10 words....
praneshp··on Activist Publishes 11,000 Private DMs Between Wikileaks and Its Supporters
I think he is referring to their/there, etc.

praneshp··on Bay Area cities are cracking down on free food at Facebook and other tech cos
TFA states: "That's because the city prohibits companies from fully subsidizing meals in the Village,"
praneshp··on Bay Area cities are cracking down on free food at Facebook and other tech cos
The editorialized title submitted by the OP is incorrect (and probably in bad faith). Free food is banned at one complex in MTV called the village ("That's because the city prohibits companies from fully subsidizing meals in the Village,"), not all over mountain view.
praneshp··on US breaks up IRS phone scam operation
There is no way this was all the scammers. Don't worry about it!
praneshp··on Tesla has asked some suppliers for cash back to help it become profitable
> I remember the articles about executives stepping away, NTSB probes, yellow lines, bankruptcy ... The recent article by Dan on how good Model 3 is is the only positive article I remember on WSJ about Tesla

Do you remember any of them being factually incorrect?

praneshp··on Nike Says Its $250 Running Shoes Will Make You Run Much Faster
I'm sure they prefer having another customer, and would probably try to educate them about principal vs principle.

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/principal

praneshp··on Improving our account management policies to better support customers
You work at google; surely you should google how to fax something without a fax machine? Or were you just unwilling to trust those services? (which is understandable, you're sending pretty personal data).

And in general, I find it difficult to buy your "I don't own a fax machine argument". I don't own a photocopier, but that's a small blocker, no?

praneshp··on What's the full story behind Elon Musk's involvement with the Thai cave rescue?
Yeah, the reddit comment just links about 20 other incidents where Musk was a jerk on twitter.
praneshp··on Living with a best-selling Indian phone for 10 days
I'm not sure the target customers of this phone organize things on their phone (TFA has a quote from Micromax related to this).
praneshp··on With more students boasting flashy GPAs, academic honors lose their luster
As a former low GPA student, I thank you.

> I have frequently noticed the best employees I’ve hired are not the top students > I actually never ask about education

How do you know they are not the top students? Just from chatting over lunch, etc?

praneshp··on A newly discovered film shows Franklin D. Roosevelt, who had polio, walking
> . In 1949, a researcher named Fred R. Klenner claimed to have found that high doses of vitamin-C could ward off the virus.

This was referenced in an episode of the tv show House

> the mass global uptake afterwards have almost rendered the virus extinct.

This is one of the things India (and from what I've heard, Pakistan) did really well. Every year around vaccination time (there used to be two doses taken around a month apart) there used to be almost propaganda like mass advertisements, camps, etc. When I was a kid I knew of a handful of older people that had polio; a kid born today is unlikely to meet someone with polio. Unfortunately, a very small minority is trying to argue that polio vaccination is a conspiracy by [pharma companies | government | rich people] :(

praneshp··on Python 3 at Facebook
> then you work in whatever language you need / makes sense given the task

I think this simplifies the truth too much. At least in my limited experience, you work in whatever language your team is working in.

praneshp··on Starbucks Frappuccino Sales Tell a Troubling Tale
> when all I wanted was a black coffee.

This is incorrect at least at all the Starbucks I've been to in the past 5 years (ATL, LAX, San Diego, bay area). If you order just drip coffee, the cashier just fills it for you whilst billing. No waiting in line with the other folks who have different tastes from yours.

Also I agree with my sibling commenter; if all you need is black coffee McD is much better. But you might have to wait in line with "big mac and fries" folks to order their crap.

praneshp··on Uber is experimenting with letting riders wait longer for a cheaper fare
Didn't object to that!
