power78··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
Post history is just hidden from the app. There are still very easy ways to view a profile's comment and post history.
power78··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
I absolutely loathe reddit now. It used to be so great. It's filled with ban-happy moderators, AI slop posts and comments, reposts of comments and posts, memes, low effort posts, and of course astroturfing. Recently it's become basically unusable as there's nothing of importance being posted. I wish there was a new platform to replace it but unfortunately that will probably turn into what reddit is now.
power78··on Does Reddit have an astroturfing problem? What the data suggests
The opposite is also true. There are many subs that posting anything positive about Israel will get you banned on that sub and all subs that moderator moderates which is insane.
power78··on Apple squandered the Holy Grail
why are some apple users so cringey?
power78··on Jiff: Datetime library for Rust
>I have seen many people downplaying the complexity of a datetime library.

Where? Maybe people downplay storing dates but not making a library.

power78··on NPM package event-source-polyfill compromised by political activists
Ugh this bickering is like reddit. Keep it off hacker news!
power78··on Lapce – Fast open-source code editor
Yeah not sure about that. I purchased ST recently and because VS Code is so slow.
power78··on Chrome users beware: Manifest v3 is deceitful and threatening
I wish Firefox would have left the old extension abilities. They could have easily added the WebExtensions standard to allow for cross-browser compatibility and not removed the old functionality.
power78··on Amazon’s search results are full of ads ‘unlawfully deceiving’ consumers
Google's results are filled with just as much spam, fake listing sites that just link to Amazon, and junk products
power78··on Please log in with router's password
According to a comment above, these routers require an admin password change when setup with no way around that.
power78··on Amazon ending IE11 support on Management Console and Documentation
Amazon's Chat, it's their Slack or Teams equivalent
power78··on The mermaid is taking over Google search in Norway
Doesn't the opening site have access to the child window/tab in Javascript? Can't it set events to fire when the window is closed?
power78··on Create animated GIF and WebP from videos using FFmpeg
Wasn't ffmpeg compiled using Web Assembly? So you could make a web app out of this.
power78··on Supercookie: Browser Fingerprinting via Favicon
Same with Samsung Internet on Android
power78··on U.S. Feds Seized Nearly $1B in Bitcoin from Wallet Linked to Silk Road
Unfortunate? That guy has done some bad things.
power78··on American Academy of Sleep Medicine calls for elimination of daylight saving time
>and get up earlier anyway.

Yeah, no thanks. This isn't an easy task for many people. Some people just naturally find it easier to wake up and get going in the morning. But there is a significant portion of people where that just doesn't happen for them. I've tried many different methods to try to be a "morning person" but it's as if my body naturally doesn't. My SO is the exact same way, and was before I knew them.

power78··on NewPipe – ad-free, open-source Android YouTube client
Is it just me or has HN seen a huge influx of less-than-the-current-average "computer intelligence" in the last 6 months?
power78··on Reverse Engineering Snapchat (Part II): Debofuscating the Undeobfuscatable
Seems like the creator of Magisk Manager could not get around Android's implementation: https://twitter.com/topjohnwu/status/1245956080779198464?s=1...
power78··on Apple’s Rejection of Hey from the App Store for Not Using In-App Purchases
Why hasn't there been any resistance to Apple and the way they treat developers? I see so many people complaining about very unfair treatment by Apple on HN, but never anyone doing anything about it. I know it's likely impossible to influence a company like Apple, but why don't people show their disdain somehow?
power78··on Apple’s Rejection of Hey from the App Store for Not Using In-App Purchases
Is it irrational for me to not want to buy an iPhone due to Apple's extreme control of the ecosystem?
power78··on Apple’s Rejection of Hey from the App Store for Not Using In-App Purchases
>I really can't put what I want on my Android phone.

To be fair, that is only valid at face value. Yes, you yourself might not be able to do that technically, but it is quite easy and flat out possible compared to an iPhone.

power78··on Apple’s Rejection of Hey from the App Store for Not Using In-App Purchases
>They just do, just like they bypass HTTPS warnings in browsers.

How could you possibly know this, other than anecdotally?

power78··on Shopify goes after Amazon with new Walmart deal
Which third cloud provider aren't you considering, and why? Is it azure?
power78··on GitHub isn't fun anymore
>I had no idea Github had a "trending" mechanism.

Sounds like this article doesn't apply to you then.

>Which is what it's supposed to be for.

That's just your opinion. Clearly people have been using github for discovering new software and more. I have found plenty of cool projects through the sites features.

power78··on First U.S. woman to walk in space dives to deepest point in the ocean
> Furthermore, not everyone is positively buoyant. The less fat one has, especially if not wearing diving suit, the more likely staying afloat/level to become harder.

I'm not sure if it is just me, but I could not understand this at all. Do you mind rephrasing it? Which type of person has a harder time stating afloat?

power78··on Google Chromium, sans integration with Google
It's nonsense. I don't understand all these people ripping on Firefox for absolutely ridiculous reasons. Lack of MIDI support for a 6 year old? Being upset Firefox uses telemetry to improve their product? A minor difference in developer tool design? HN sure has become filled with negativity instead of constructive criticism.
power78··on Why the developers who use Rust love it so much
He means: another reason rust users love it so much is because they are not being forced to use it
power78··on SpaceX launches 60 more Starlink satellites
Wow, fascinating website. When you are selecting Atlas or Falcon, are those the orbits of the leftover second stages? If so, why are some of their orbits so large? Were they placing a satellite that far out?
power78··on A photo is crashing some Android phones
See this tweet chain from the Magisk author. It seems Google might enable remote attestation at some point like they did for a short period during this tweet, defeating MagiskHide.
