This is not true. At least for Teslas, the brake pedal only controls the friction brakes (they are hydraulically coupled). Same with a Chevy bolt. Unsure on other EVs
The GM bolt rebate came with a condition saying that you wouldn't join any class action against GM w.r.t. the battery fires they were having. GM is also somewhat more desperate to sell bolts because it saves them buying emissions credits.
It's also important to consider number of stalls v.s. number of locations. The biggest Electrify America location on I-5 between SF and LA has 10 stalls. The biggest Tesla supercharger location has over 100.
The "generic" charger at your work is probably J1772? Teslas come with an adapter for that plug. The benefit of the supercharger network is mainly for DC fast charging (which J1772 can't provide) on road trips. You aren't getting 250Kw from your office building.
> Fourth, contraception has the psychological effect of divorcing the intrinsic function of sexual intercourse from pleasure which results in a hedonistic view of sex
There is so much more to sex than procreation or pure hedonistic desire.
What about infertile couples? Should they just not have sex because there is no hope of procreation? Gay couples?
No one is going to toss out their ICE car as a long as you can still buy petrol. Manufacturers aren't going to physically be able to produce EVs much faster than they could produce ICE cars, so there will be a slow replacement as ICE cars get written off in crashes, or become uneconomical to repair with age
It doesn't have to be that dichotomous though. I don't wear a mask at work (which is well ventilated and people are pretty responsible about staying home when sick) but I do in higher risk situations (E.g. a plane flight)
Yeah I have this personal rule too. I have another rule for any interns I have: if you break something, you have to fix it AND add tests ensuring it can't be broken again (although I'll be fairly pragmatic on this one)
What the designers/engineers want (convenience, ease of use) is often sidelined in favor of making money (keeping mfg costs low, dealing with supply chain issues)
I used to write bare-metal C for my day job. It's pretty hard to get everything right when the language has so many sharp edges. I wouldn't want to use C for a bigger project (e.g. the kernel, drivers, a gui app) but I'd quite happily use Rust because the compiler will yell at me if I do something stupid
Our local high school already has electric school busses! They look exactly like the traditional American school bus, but with a small green stripe, which was surprising, given how many passenger EVs look futuristic.
The school parking lot has solar panels over it, so I assume it charges at school.
Yup. Look at the number of stalls (not just locations) of superchargers v.s. EA fast chargers between the bay and LA for an example. Tesla is over 200+, EA was <50 last time I checked, and by personal experience, the EA charger reliability is quite low.
NZs isolation policy couldn't keep out omicron. The upside was, by the time omicron showed up and started spreading around the population, most people were vaccinated, and deaths due to the original strain were very low (I think it was like 50 deaths? 150 maybe?). The country also had most of 2020 and early 2021 totally COVID free, so businesses like cafes, retail, didn't have as much of a shock
Charging to max range is only bad for certain chemistry. Teslas coming out of China with LFP packs say they can be charged to 100pct without issue, while the other models still recommend avoiding charging to 100pct unless you are doing road trips
$100 + labour for assembly + testing to make sure the panel works + the cost of an extra DCDC converter + wiring to the roof + supply chain risk with all the above parts. Toyota tried it for a while, but I don't think any new Prius models have a solar roof.
Lots of extra cost + weight + complexity for marginal benefit. In very specific scenarios it makes sense, but it's usually better to just put the panels on your roof. Most people when shopping for EVs are concerned primarily about single charge range, which solar panels don't really help with. I'm interested to see what these companies come up with, but the proof will come if these companies are still around in 5-10 years.
Currently spending the majority of my free time developing a dance curriculum and coaching volunteer teachers at a local dance club. They had a lot of good teachers move away during COVID, and it's where I first learned to dance to I want to keep it alive. I really enjoy the process of teaching and communicating concepts, and love seeing people light up when they understand something. The process of teaching also helps me understand more that I would if I was keeping it internal
