posix_compliant··on Claude Opus 5
I think what the parent is saying is that the model itself has the best context for whether a portion of a request should be routed. The specifics of that routing (e.g., should you route to KimiK2) are something that can be trained, finetuned, or even included in a model's startup context.
posix_compliant··on Scale Model of San Francisco Finds a Home at Long Last
No, you can’t have my email.
posix_compliant··on Amazon's New Stargate Series Is Officially Dead
Very unfortunate, it's a wonderful sci-fi concept with an existing fan base and a lot of possible directions to move in from a writing perspective. It's also not a particularly high budget show to produce, but I guess exec are only looking for the next blockbuster.
posix_compliant··on Ask HN: Why is it still so hard for LLMs to query NoSQL databases?
This reads like an wholesale AI-generated blog post and HN submission.
posix_compliant··on Tech jobs are getting demolished in ways not seen since 2008
I agree on sensing some kind of systemic collapse. It feels those with more resources are getting increasingly efficient at extracting wealth from those with fewer resources.
posix_compliant··on Tinnitus Is Connected to Sleep
Sleep is one of the only things I’ve found can actually improve the tinnitus I’ve had for almost 3 years. Every other tactic I have is essentially avoiding making it worse.
posix_compliant··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025)
I’m working on a GUI for managing CODEOWNERS for large repos with lots and lots of owners

posix_compliant··on Tinnitus Neuromodulator
Parent comment is right. I’ve used Lorazepam to treat tinnitus. It’s not worth it. In the long run it raises your base anxiety level. Currently I’m experimenting with Tizanidine.
posix_compliant··on My new deadline: 20 years to give away virtually all my wealth
Rationally, you're correct. But emotionally, there's a lot of people who don't understand why someone would provide a free service without an ulterior motive. Gates talks about this a bit on the Trevor Noah podcast.
posix_compliant··on Visual Simplification of A*sin(x)+B*cos(x)
I love staring at something for two minutes and having it slowly make sense. Great explanation.
posix_compliant··on Spike protein at skull-meninges axis may drive Covid-19 neurological effects
Anecdotally, this strongly mirrors my personal experience with long covid symptoms. I’m relatively young (32) but have noticed I don’t recover well in result to neurological injuries: loud noises which didn’t damage my hearing but left me with tinnitus, and a very mild concussion which has now taken the greater part of a year to stop feeling dizzy from.
posix_compliant··on We built a self-healing system to survive a concurrency bug at Netflix
What's neat is that this is a differential equation. If you kill 5% of instances each hour, the reduction in bad instances is proportional to the current number of instances.

i.e.

if bad(t) = fraction of bad instances at time t

and

bad(0) = 0

then

d(bad(t))/dt = -0.05 * bad(t) + 0.01 * (1 - bad(t))

so

bad(t) = 0.166667 - 0.166667 e^(-0.06 t)

Which looks a mighty lot like the graph of bad instances in the blog post.

posix_compliant··on We're in the brute force phase of AI – once it ends, demand for GPUs will too
With Bitcoin I feel like it’s different, since the hashing algorithm would only ever change during a fork. This is rare in that it only ever happens every few years.

With AI, we’re constantly training different models, which can’t be trained using asics. If we ever get to the point where we no longer need to train new models, then yeah, it will go the way of bitcoin.

posix_compliant··on Ask HN: What are you working on (August 2024)?
Learning Unity. I want to make stupid little games like I used to play on the internet in the early 00’s.
posix_compliant··on Understanding the neuroscience behind burnout (2022)
Could you recommend some psychopharmacological treatments? I’m dealing with some flavor of this which is making my life difficult. I’m working with a neurologist, but I’m interested in your thoughts.
posix_compliant··on Identical twins both grew up with autism, but took different paths
Then the spectrum would refer to the magnitude of any vector in multidimensional “autism space”.
posix_compliant··on Ask HN: What Are You Learning?
I inherited an AWS DB costing $60k/mo and I'm learning how to make it cheaper.
posix_compliant··on We've Been Treating Concussions All Wrong
Probably meant to type km/s
posix_compliant··on Ask HN: Has the tech recession affected you?
Bulge bracket == large bank
posix_compliant··on 'Strong' El Niño likely to bring more snow to these states
Clickbait title. The region in question is the southern half of the US.
posix_compliant··on Apple patents suggest future AirPods could monitor biosignals and brain activity
At this point I have become intransigently opposed to using betterhelp due to the incessant ad spam I've been subjected to over the last few years.
posix_compliant··on Tell HN: Nearly all of Evernote’s remaining staff has been laid off
I only have anecdotal information, but my wife worked for Evernote and was let go as part of this acquisition, along with the rest of the marketing team.
posix_compliant··on You Probably Don't Need OAuth2/OpenID Connect: Here's Why
I enjoyed this, we definitely made some of these pitfalls in my past startup. The example about needing to check the audience before requesting resources is a good one.
posix_compliant··on Detect breaches with Canary credit cards
I’m dying to know how they implemented this. In order to have Visa or MasterCard process this transaction, they’d need to have a bank partner to issue the credit credit card with an issuer processor. There’s usually a large cost to keeping open credit cards on file, even if there’s no line of credit.
posix_compliant··on Cache Associativity
I have a(nother) question. If you’re iterating through a long array with chunksize larger than the cache line size, then every iteration of the loop will cause a cache miss. So it shouldn’t matter if it’s a power of two or not, every call to a[i]++ will be a cache miss. What gives?
posix_compliant··on Cache Associativity
I see. I was interpreting the line as “is stored in the cache from” when it really means “can be stored in the cache at”. Using directed arrows might help some. Thanks!
posix_compliant··on Cache Associativity
I’m confused by the cache graphs: it looks like the direct-mapped cache has multiple lines drawn from a single cache line to different blocks in main memory.

From what I understand, a hardware cache wouldn’t store a line multiple times in main memory.

posix_compliant··on As Investors Scramble to Buy I Bonds, TreasuryDirect Site Has Outages
Can’t you “only” buy 10,000 dollars of I-bonds at a time? I feel like that is a small amount of money for a lot of investors, so they wouldn’t bother.
posix_compliant··on Chicago startup companies to watch in 2022
Avant and Amount were the same company not too long ago.
posix_compliant··on A Random Distribution of Wealth (2017)
z = ( ‖ Wi, t-1 ‖ ÷ Wt0 + ‖ Wr, t-1 ‖ ÷ Wt0 ) ÷ 2

The weird thing about defining the amount of money given this way is that as people go further into debt, they give more and more money.
