I thought that even if you but them at 9.62% on or before Oct 28, their interest rate will be set at whatever the new going rate is for November-April on Nov 1?
It gets locked in for 6 months, so if you bought before or on Oct 28 you will get 9.62% for 6 months and the ~6% or so rate for the 6 months after that.
Can’t you “only” buy 10,000 dollars of I-bonds at a time? I feel like that is a small amount of money for a lot of investors, so they wouldn’t bother.
It’s a public service to maintain purchasing power for a chunk of value, it’s not intended for institutional or other investors.
On the other hand most people have less in savings than that.
