pixelcloud··on Method and System for Making an Espresso Beverage: Starbucks patent application
Its basically an auto-tamper and automatic espresso machine. I've never heard of applying 500KGs of force to tamp down a shot though..
pixelcloud··on Throwing and catching an inverted pendulum with quadrocopters
Smart grenades?
pixelcloud··on First impressions of Leap Motion
Add a real doll and call it a day.
pixelcloud··on Microsoft's ARM blunder: Why Windows RT was DOA
The Surface Rt is prefect when using RDP and Citrix.. It could use a higher resolution screen and maybe go down in price a bit... But it works pretty well as a thin client.
pixelcloud··on Chrome to become the standard browser on Android 4.0 and above
The option for other vendors to implement those features has not been removed from the table. Unlike something like ActiveX, these companies have a choice to implement, even if they dont want to.
pixelcloud··on Forth Inventor Chuck Moore's $20 144 core CPU now in full production
I really hope these have a good application for DSP. I can imagine the sweet homebrew synths that people will be coming up with.
pixelcloud··on Intel's x86 Android, smartphone, and tablet plans exposed
What I find interesting about this is the Wireless display technology that is going to be on this platform. I think they will push that concept hard. The idea that I can take my phone, sit down at my desk and have it running on the monitor, keyboard and mouse wirelessly ()and hopefully seemlessly) has been a big feature that I have wanted for a while.
pixelcloud··on Incoming: A Native Gmail iPhone App. Finally.
That is my biggest peeve about Mail.app with gmail
pixelcloud··on Galaxy Nexus: 1080p Video
He did post editing on it to give it that colour
pixelcloud··on With Google Reader changing is there a competitor looming?
The amount of RSS readers that support google reader is crazy. I use Feedly on the laptop and Reeder on iOS, they both support sharing with a couple dozen different services, have amazing interfaces, and feedly has great discovery tools for finding new blogs. I don't see the point of switching since I haven't logged into reader.google.com in ages (the last time was to export a couple folders and send it to some friends).
pixelcloud··on Biographer: Jobs refused early and potentially life-saving surgery
It's a biography about steve jobs. Im pretty sure there will be no issues with sales.
pixelcloud··on Google Reader cutting internal social features, integrating into Google+
Feedly is really good too.
pixelcloud··on Google+ for Google Apps users - it's a matter of days
I find that solution to be quite decent. Generally, when I hit a google website it will prompt me to pick between my two different accounts. Even using googles oauth will prompt me to pick between the two accounts! Apparently, it isn't supported for some things, but I haven't come across anything yet.
pixelcloud··on Hacked
It's really quite amazing that I can use 2 factor authentication both my google accounts and facebook. When I see people get "hacked" and lose access to their email and facebook I always advise them to turn it on. Ironically, they decide that its too much work to protect themselves and would rather take the risk. For non-techies I think that mentality is quite common, its quite scary. I wonder if its possible to have an user friendly, secure authentication system.
pixelcloud··on President Obama on Steve Jobs: "He Changed the Way Each of Us Sees the World"
It's hard to say who deserves the most credit. But Steve Jobs was the one pushing to push stuff past the competitors. I bet Samsung, ASUS, and the likes have or could hire equally skilled designers. But the people on top want to cut costs, so they don't opt for the milled aluminium case, or buying the companies they need to secure technology. Steve was the one pushing those envelopes, allowing them the resources to accomplish those goals. You give any designer, engineer a goal with very little limits and its amazing what they can come up with. But its really important that someone is there to give them that.
pixelcloud··on Steve Jobs has passed away.
Just remember this.

"You know, I've got a plan that could rescue Apple. I can't say any more than that it's the perfect product and the perfect strategy for Apple. But nobody there will listen to me." -- Steve Jobs, Sept. 18, 1995

"If I were running Apple, I would milk the Macintosh for all it's worth -- and get busy on the next great thing. The PC wars are over. Done. Microsoft won a long time ago." -- Steve Jobs, Feb. 19, 1996

The best ideas are the ones you have to force on people.

pixelcloud··on Steve Jobs has died
Steve Jobs has inspired us all, through his business philosophy, through pushing the mobile landscape to where it is today, for changing the music industry as we know it, for his snappy turtle-necks, for the opportunities he has given his employees and developers on iOS.

The world lost one of the greatest business man of all time.

RIP

pixelcloud··on Browser Market Pollution: IE[x] is the new IE6
I thought this was interesting.

http://caniuse.com/#search=flexbox

IE isn't going to have advanced CSS3 support until version 10! However, Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Mobile Safari, and Android browser all support it already. It just seems that Microsoft is incapable of staying on the edge.

pixelcloud··on How Apple badly messed up with in-app purchases on Lion and didn’t tell anyone
There is an inapp purchase cracker on cydia now... Most apps dont actually check to make sure you purchased the content.
pixelcloud··on Poll: Are you (still) using Google+
None of my friends really are active on the network, so I find myself not using it.
pixelcloud··on Rob "CmdrTaco" Malda Resigns From Slashdot
Now everyone uses macbooks... Oh how the times have changed.
pixelcloud··on Reverse engineering the Mac ‘breathing’ LED
I'm pretty sure Apple has a patent on this.

Here's some code! http://osx-launchpad.blogspot.com/2010/11/breathing-led-effe...

pixelcloud··on The Google Unemployment Index
It is interesting how the stock markets have done compared to the unemployment index. I wonder what that indicates?
pixelcloud··on Apple Obliterates Q3 Earnings Estimates: Best Mac Sales Ever, Huge iPad Numbers
I find it more astounding how no one can do the same.

Is everyone else really that bad? Or is Apple just that good?

pixelcloud··on Apple Obliterates Q3 Earnings Estimates: Best Mac Sales Ever, Huge iPad Numbers
If apple puts that display on their macbooks, i will be first in line,
pixelcloud··on Ask HN: Feedback on Mixest, my HTML5 ironic indie Pandora
I agree, change those shades of grey to something a bit more readable.

pixelcloud··on Has Apple's new iPhone hit the limits of industrial design?
I think that industrial designers have reached a limit within our current technological and manufacturing capacity.

There are many concepts that are great examples of "form meets function" that we cannot produce due to these limitations.

pixelcloud··on Bye-bye kindle
There is always shortcovers as well. They will probably add support for this.
