pixelcloudon US Army Appoints Palantir, Meta, OpenAI Execs as Lt. Colonels

While that may be true, the article is accurate and has links to its sources.

pixelcloudon Euro-cloud provider Anexia moves 12,000 VMs off VMware to homebrew KVM platform

The large renewal "uplift" is partly a strategy to get in front of the C levels and board of directors.

I heard of a one billion dollar renewal quote from Broadcom. The company didn't pay anything close to that. But it bypassed middle mgmt... Not exactly sure what the overall strategy is here, but this is not an isolated incident.

pixelcloudon YouTube now requires to label their realistic-looking videos made using AI

They don't make a distinction between AI generated and VFX. This is contained within the linked article.

pixelcloudon Canadian man stuck in triangle of e-commerce fraud

In terms of the RCMP and their aggressive behaviour. It makes perfect sense. First Nations people have not been treated well by the RCMP or LE for a very long time in Canada... This still persists to this day, systematic discrimination and all that stuff.

pixelcloudon Trudeau Invokes Emergencies Act

This doesn't change anything in terms of hospital capacities here. The surgery backlog is massive, the hospitals are overrun with covid patients. Taking additional precautions is an attempt to try to protect the larger populations access to healthcare.

pixelcloudon Trump Press Conference Video Doctored?

In lots of countries any form of unwanted direct or indirect contact would be considered assault. So by trying to force the mic away, she could have been charged with assault! If the mic is someone else's property and he would not give it up, the police would have the right to make unwanted contact to get it back.

pixelcloudon How LeBron James' new public school is the first of its kind

Not all parents should be allowed to raise their children...

pixelcloudon MacBook Pro with i9 chip is throttled due to thermal issues, claims YouTuber

But does the i9 version have performance issues (i.e. it under performs compared to the i7)? The XPS 15 with the i9 configuration comes with 32GB ram and it much cheaper than an equivalent macbook pro. I can deal with it getting hot!

pixelcloudon Google Won't Renew Contract for Project Maven, Pentagon Drone AI Imaging Program

That is a great opinion and I can do that too!!

I seriously doubt the majority of Google Employees would support defense contracting.

pixelcloudon 'Impossible' EmDrive Space Thruster May Really Be Impossible

It find it super funny how it was a cable related issue

just like this famous one https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faster-than-light_neutrino_ano...

pixelcloudon PowerHammer: Exfiltrating Data from Air-Gapped Computers Through Power Lines

You would need to be pretty close to the server/storage/etc to get a clean enough signal to be useful though. So physical security might be enough to protect against this type of attack. You probably can't just dig up the powerline outside and start tapping it thankfully.

pixelcloudon Tesla issues its largest recall ever over faulty Model S steering

There are literally 2 much bigger recalls happening right now.

Airbags! Multiple companies have recalled a specific airbag module that catches on fire. 1+ million cars

Ford recalled 1.3 million cars last week, the steering wheel can fall off. That "internal manufacturing expertise" in action.

pixelcloudon Alert About Missile Bound for Hawaii Was Sent in Error, Officials Say

And lots of those stories are from Hawaii! Many many people have died their due to tsunamis, etc. They take their warnings seriously (in the past they didnt have them for things like tsunamis)

pixelcloudon Kids in ‘Netflix Only’ Homes Saved from 230 Hours of Commercials a Year

Monitoring software (elastic, splunk, etc..). That stuff is expensive!

pixelcloudon Kids in ‘Netflix Only’ Homes Saved from 230 Hours of Commercials a Year

That type of advertising is fairly ineffective at "convincing" someone to make a purchase. Compared to more modern advertising techniques (like Facebook or Google) and their advertising resulted in me making a 100k purchase of software. The TV cannot market particular seminars, or blog posts that I might find relevant to what i'm doing right now, but google and FB can.

It's scary and interesting.

pixelcloudon If your iPhone is slow, try replacing the battery

I wonder if Android does the same thing. My understanding if batteries is that @ 100% charge they are going to sit around a certain voltage. They will never stay at the maximum voltage under use though. Is it possible that the OS needs to drop the CPU freq due to the voltage requirements (which maybe a 70% healthy battery could NEVER hit), and ultimately stressing/draining the battery quicker at higher frequencies.

pixelcloudon Apple delaying HomePod smart speaker launch until next year

I find it a bit surprising that companies like B&W haven't integrated Alexa into their wireless products. Sonos has a new wireless speaker that looks nice, but I wouldn't consider it high-end.

pixelcloudon Reddit is reportedly considering an IPO

There is no such thing as hate speech, as something that can be objectively identified and reasoned about.

Are you sure? My country defines it in a legal sense, along with many others.

pixelcloudon The impossible dream of USB-C

We should just stamp a tiny QR code on each cable end! Then we can use our smartphones and a special USBC app !!

pixelcloudon Guacamole – A clientless remote desktop gateway

I've been using XRDP for a while now. Works extremely well.

pixelcloudon Japan Is Selling Ice Cream That Doesn't Melt

"but it might also have advantages refreezing from a semi-thawed state"

If that is a concern, you are eating ice cream the wrong way!!

pixelcloudon Japan Is Selling Ice Cream That Doesn't Melt

pixelcloudon Others are speaking up about discrimination at Tesla

OPs comment is so disconnected from the article its actually funny. That person did not read it.

pixelcloudon New Surface Pro

counter example.

I had to take my MacBook in three times durnig its life, for the same issue (wifi/bt issues because of aircard connection to VM)

Every single time I was told to make an appointment. Which take about 3 days to get. They took the laptop and spend a week fixing it (every time!) My experience at Multiple Apple stores in Southren Ontario.

pixelcloudon Tesla Passes Ford by Market Value

ZipCar is very useful in it's own regard. It's problem is that you need to pick it up and drop it off at the same location, and availability during peak hours.

Self driving car networks basically can solve that.

pixelcloudon SES-10 Mission

They are still a ways off from having something comparable to SpaceX. New Glenn might have a test launch in 2020.
