Why are we still linking paywalled articles??
pitiburi··on Is Light a Particle or a Wave?
Yes
pitiburi··on The antidote to civilisational collapse – An interview with Adam Curtis (2018)
well, you clearly have not enough knowledge on how the press and the politicians' vote works. Hint: both depend on money, so who has the money has them both.

pitiburi··on SageMath – Open-Source Mathematical Software System
wow, many times downvoted for redirecting people to an up to date situation so they can chose the plan best suited for they convenience. Gosh, HN is getting brutal. Btw, very nice job to the guys at CoCalc in general, as a collaboration tool, and specially at courses based on Jupyter Notebooks. EDIT: and now some guys going through my old posts in different threads giving me negative votes. Really?Wow.Just wow.
pitiburi··on SageMath – Open-Source Mathematical Software System
You are waaaay outdated. "SageMathCloud is Now CoCalc" since May 2017. Go google it. And it's not free _at all_, except for very basic stuff. Your pricing depends on what you need, from hundreds to thousands of dollars. Not a criticism, only a heads up for the guys reading the comments.
pitiburi··on The Surprising History and Future of Fingerprints
It's amazing how US-UK centered this is. Talking about fingerprints history and not even mentioning the first time it was developed and used in criminal forensics? They talk about novels talking about using it, but the actual first case in which was used to solve a crime was in the 1890s, and the whole technique was invented on site and developed there, in Argentina [1]. But, hey, not english speakers, so probably only barbarians who know nothing about technology. [1] https://www.nlm.nih.gov/exhibition/visibleproofs/galleries/c...
pitiburi··on The murder that shook Iceland
You really, really have your data wrong. Obviously you have a cliché-type idea of what Mexico it's. http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2014/06/people-mexico-show-st...
pitiburi··on Ask HN: What is the best thing you ever owned?
My grandpa military badge. It reminds me who I am, where we were and at what length we went for the sake of our honour and our people. I am part of a Nation, I am part of that history. And that badge represents, physically, the proud I have of being who I am. And it's a permanent call to what I have to be and how I should behave.
pitiburi··on The Scientific Truth About Planet Nine, So Far
Wow, really really aggressive land page if you have an AdBlock...
pitiburi··on How 8-hour work day originated (2013)
Nice article, but misinformed. " It’s purely the a century old norm for running factories most efficiently.", based on the Ford adopt of the norm in 1914. That is borderline ridiculous: what they id was go from 9 hours to 8 but with DOUBLING the wages. What do you think was the reason for the improvement in productivity?

In the USA, in Illinois you have a law for 8 hours (with loopholes) at 1867! Chicago saw that year a whole week of workers strike trying to get that. In the next 20 years, lots of cities and professions got the 8 hours. And in 1886, see what happened in May Day and in the following Haymarket Riot.

The real reason for the 8 hours is the anarchist push for a more human treatment of workers'life. Those working class anarchist masses in Europe went to North and South America in numbers, and started there a very strong push for workers organizations, shaping some countries cultural shape up to this day. THAT is the real push for the 8 hours, those are the real reasons, in a history that most of the world knows but in the USA is still neglected and hidden. So, seen an article about the genius of Ford for the 8 hours in 1914 is sad. What he did was doubling the wages, and got an improvement in productivity. The 8 hours has a rich, hard fought and tragic history that is more than 50 years older, and which was usually drowned in blood by those same industrial tycoons.

pitiburi··on Brain Wound Eliminates Man's Mental Illness (1988)
Maybe you should think about our dear Phineas Gage and what an incredible coincidence means for a whole scientific branch, and for the human knowledge about some of the most complex (and ethically difficult) subjects to study, our own brains. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phineas_Gage

pitiburi··on A Guide to World Cup Teams' Histories and Playing Styles
So Argentina, Uruguay or France are not relevant in football history? Not to mention the absurd piece claiming that spain was able to get their first Cup because they put their regional differences aside... or when they say that in the 60s and 70 the whole world was north american culture except for Brazilian football... and so many more... A very, very bad article. Sad, bc there are so many interesting things to say about what the title talks about
pitiburi··on Why Do We Need Data Science When We’ve Had Statistics for Centuries?
So, so much ignorance in only one paragraph. It states that Statistics was only able to understand what is going on now, while Data Science lets us make predictions. And with Data Science we can now apply maths to softer disciplines like Health Sciences.

I... I... I can't even answer, it's so frustrating...

pitiburi··on Lost Brazil order raises threat to Boeing fighter jets
The BIG reasons seem to be the transfer of technology and the fact that Sweden hasn't any presence or interests in South America or South Pacific, while France and USA certainly do. So, with the Swedish fighter they have no strings attached.
pitiburi··on Self-driving cars to be on roads of Swedish capital Gothenburg by 2017

pitiburi··on NSA Phone Snooping Cannot Be Challenged in Court, Feds Say
I know about that idea of deferring decision from un-elected to elected authorities. But, the problem is nobody elects NSA hierarchies. Or FBI, CIA, etc. And they have such amount of power that THEY decide over elected officials, and not the other way around. No president can take a decision against what the powers inside the NSA want. The officials nominated by the president to head those agencies are either guys imposed to them from within that agency, or a nominal authority with no real saying in the power structure inside. The more you think about it, the more you realize is a catch-22.
pitiburi··on How secure is Linux's random number generator?
As you said, "While you can't be 100 percent sure of the reliability of RdRand because you can't audit it" So, if you are willing to disregard the importance of auditing a (critical!) piece of code, and take and use a nice black box given to you by that big company, then it begs the question.... Why on earth are you using open source?? It just makes no sense. To me, at least.
pitiburi··on Edward Snowden’s Parasites: Evo Morales, Julian Assange & More
This is a disgusting piece of propaganda, a rant full of name-throwing, misconstructed straw men arguments and easily spotted lies. I can see no reason to have this low level pseudo journalism in HN other than talking about how low are they willing to go.
