pefavre··on The Quest for the ideal CEO-type Co-Founder
Interesting point. By the way, have you found your match yet?
pefavre··on Google has killed Android (the brand)
Here's the Nexus 4 page: http://www.google.com/nexus/4/ Indeed, Google is everywhere, and Android is mentioned at the very bottom.
pefavre··on Tesla's ingenious strategy
That's what I call a clever fall-back strategy!
pefavre··on Introducing Your Instagram Feed on the Web
I think it's smart for them to keep the mobile upload only strategy. It keeps their network free of reposted images instead of live pictures. Or at least it tries to.
pefavre··on Square COO Keith Rabois Departs Company
That could make sense.
pefavre··on Kill the Password: Why a String of Characters Can't Protect Us Anymore
That's a great article. I thought I was pretty secure with the two-factor authentification. But with the 'socialing' technique it looks quite easy to break. To me, the best advice is to give bogus answers to security questions. That leaves very little chance to pass through the password resetting process.
pefavre··on Art.sy, a Genome Project for the World of Art
To be fair, they spent a lot of time, beside the main Genome project, to build and try out interfaces to showcase artworks, which has always suffered a poor UX. It was in closed beta, though, but I had the chance to see their progress on this side and I can tell it is pretty amazing.
pefavre··on The Pigeon Movement – A rallying cry for French startups
You can follow the movement with the hashtag #geonpi alongside the handle @DefensePigeons.
pefavre··on Foursquare designer launches Sunrise, the new must-have daily email
Simple and great service! I read it every morning. I know it's critical to keep it simple and easy to read, though I'd love to have the weather forecast for the day as well.
pefavre··on Being a Professional
Always good to remember, as these rules of thumb apply to any kind of professional relation.
pefavre··on Books Every Entrepreneur Should Read
All of this reading is great, and I mean it. I've read a lot of it. But one thing bothers me: the time spent reading is precious if you're an entrepreneur. It should not take over your work, so basically you read on your free time. I personally think it is important to pull the plug sometimes. That's why I try to read less startup stuff, and let my mind wander with novels. Read literature, that's where the inspiration comes from.
pefavre··on Books Every Entrepreneur Should Read
Great list thanks, but more code-oriented in my opinion.
pefavre··on Behind the scenes of Circle app design
Great app design, and awesome behind the scenes page! Kudos
pefavre··on Please Learn to Code
Interesting point: people need to know how different it is to customize a WordPress theme and building a Rails CMS. If, before knowing how to actually code, people can judge of the quantity and quality of work required to build something, the world will certainly be better.
pefavre··on Step by Step UI Design
Obviously a low price with thousands downloads is way better than a higher price with only hundreds of purchases. $2.99 * 5000 > $10 * 500 Time will tell but I'm pretty sure this is a good strategy.
pefavre··on Making of an iPhone app design (Sharypic)
Good job on the app. I don't see why copying the facebook menu is bad, considering it is a simple and effective way to add tabs which has somehow become a best practice. And as you say it's easily recognizable, so the credit goes to facebook as well.
pefavre··on Designing better user interfaces
Good point on the use of maps on mobile. The Maps scrollbar of death™ is evil, and it's a very good practice to have it replaced by a clickable static map.
pefavre··on Impress.js
Quite impressive! It shows a great potential. A simple editor would make it a killer service. Kudos!
pefavre··on Tim Berners-Lee Confirms The Exact Location Where the Web Was Invented: France
'France really does not hold up to the values of humanism, rights, and freedom we're so proud of.' Digitally speaking, you're right. But better days will come, as french politicals and execs tend to be more of followers than of trend setters. Very few older people (above GenY) understand the concepts and issues of the open web and the importance to provide it to each citizen on the same level. Meanwhile, France is still making of fool of itself.
pefavre··on Where the f*** should I go for drinks?
I'm not sure about the accuracy of the recommandations. After a few clicks I was advised with a "deux étoiles" (2 stars) restaurant which is a top-notch place for gastronomy, not the kind of place you would hang out and drink beers. To me, the database could need some refining.
pefavre··on Dearest Delicious, a breakup letter
I've been using Instapaper a lot for text to read later, and I need to complete it with something to keep track of my discoveries. Pinboard looks great indeed, but how is the Read later feature? Worth leaving Instapaper?
pefavre··on Dearest Delicious, a breakup letter
Doesn't it feel weird to have your bookmarks mixed up with your regular notes?
pefavre··on How France’s Free will reinvent mobile
They did it! Unlimited calls, national and international; 3Go fair use of data; for 15,99€/mth (20,4$/mth). That's what I call disruption!
pefavre··on Dearest Delicious, a breakup letter
I guess we're a lot in this situation. Yet I haven't found the perfect service to replace Delicious. Any thoughts?
pefavre··on ShowHN: AlreadyHN, a bookmarklet that checks if the current page is on HN
I've just tried this one and it's great! It's simple, unobtrusive and smart: a logo in the address bar indicates that the post is already on HN. If you click it you're taken to the comments page. Neat!
pefavre··on A Man. A Van. A Surprising Business Plan.
You have a good point : timing matters the most.
pefavre··on Sites that pushed JavaScript to the limit
Sure, this one is amazing.
pefavre··on French President’s Residence ‘Busted’ For BitTorrent Piracy
Hadn't seen this EPIC one... I'm speechless!
pefavre··on French President’s Residence ‘Busted’ For BitTorrent Piracy
French gov is always prompt to make a fool of himself... Remember the EPIC fail of france.fr launch: http://techcrunch.com/2010/07/14/france-launches-multi-lingu...
pefavre··on Bfxr. Make sound effects for your games.
Truly awesome, but could need some interface improvements.
