pajko··on You can defeat the Dream Devourer from Chrono Trigger using an int overflow
The classic Alone in the Dark I gives you "infinite" health points via integer (16-bit) underflow due to a bit of negligience. Once you get the poison, just drink it. And during the animation just drink it again. And again. And again...
pajko··on AI cancer cures slowed by chip shortage, says Arm boss
Bit we have AGI at home on existing hardware. Why not tell the AGI to cure cancer? Or if it'd not able to, why don't just build a cancer-curing AI instead of AGI on the existing hardware?
pajko··on bzip3
This was my point too, but related to LZMA(2?) / xz, as the exact parameters were not specified while it supports setting compression level up to -9e, and the dictionary size can be controlled directly as well (in addition to quite a lot of fine-tuning knobs), increasing it up to 1536 MiB.

pajko··on Bomb fishing is wreaking havoc on Indonesia's coral reefs
Had experienced grenade fishing in person on the Vjosa in Albania. Was kayaking when a 20-30(-40?) meters high water column appeared about 300 meters in front of me, accompanied by a big bang. Not cool.
pajko··on Coconut oil jet fuel matches kerosene's efficiency in engine tests
Not just corn. Farmers would grow more corn in place of other plants reducing the supply, and shorter supply generally means higher prices, This is happening in India right now.
pajko··on AliExpress runs silent WebAudio fingerprinting that breaks Bluetooth multipoint
Fingerprinting cannot be resisted. There are a zillion techniques to get bits of information which can provide a unique-ish identifier when combined. The only protection is to mix in some random data in all these bits to get a very unique combination that changes on each request. But this only works if at the same time cookie and local storage access is disabled for all sites and whitelisted per site:target combination.

pajko··on Git rebase -i is not that scary
Why isn't the 'edit' command mentioned? It's one of the most useful features. It can be used for splitting commits, for example. Mark the commit you want to split to be edited. The commit replay is going to stop after that commit. Now:

  git reset HEAD^1 (NO --hard!)
  git commit --patch ...
  git rebase --continue
You want to add some pending changes to the previous commit? No problem:

  git commit --patch --amend ...
You want to move the pending changes to future commits?

  git stash
  git rebase --continue
  git stash pop

It looks like this could be made from any metal, where the small segments are connected together like links of a chain.
pajko··on Inhaling high-dose CO2 clears Alzheimer's proteins from the brain
There are other unordinary methods to "reboot" body parts to treat malfunction, for example, some eye conditions can be treated by injecting a sedative into the eyes: https://news.mit.edu/2025/how-vision-can-be-rebooted-in-adul...

The future is to replace the Si base with something else. Silicon Carbide has higher thermal conductivity. Bismuth-based composites provide much higher frequency.

pajko··on Ported my C game to WASM, here's every bug that I hit
Besides ActiveX, old (<9) Internet Explorer supported VML (Vector Markup Language), which was neither supported by anything else, nor widespread. It could be made dynamic with the help of JavaScript, and the only dynamic example I could remember was an analog clock.
pajko··on New method turns ocean water into drinking water, without waste
You could put it back into old salt mines.
pajko··on Malicious npm packages detected across Red Hat Cloud Services
So do the pre- and post-install scripts of Debian packages. The problem is not this but the lack of verified and controlled release channel.

It does not matter. Who's gonna stop them adding a new backdoor in a later Windows Update(TM) ? T this point they are not to be trusted at all.

"No, TPM+PIN does not help, the issue is still exploitable regardless, I asked myself this question, can it still work in a TPM+PIN environment ? Yes it does, I'm just not publishing the PoC, I think what's out there is already bad enough."

pajko··on Swiss e-voting pilot can't count 2,048 ballots after decryption failure
There's bigger issue than stuffing. In "rural" Hungary chain voting is customary where people are taken to the voting place by gangs and are either awarded with some money or a bag of potatoes, or threatened to be beaten if they do not comply. The first voter of the chain goes in, takes the ballot, hides it and takes it out. It is then pre-filled by the gang. The next voters take the prefilled ballot in, throw it in the box and bring a fresh clean ballot out, and so on...

In other cases, people get money/bag of potatoes for a photo of their correctly filled ballot.
