the paper is here: http://www.liebertonline.com/doi/pdfplus/10.1089/cpb.2008.02...

I'd like to see the Facebook Jealousy scale mentioned in the paper and possibly do a CFA on it ...

pageman··on Ask HN: Staying Sharp
I think we can help academia by using web apps to create ease off some of the computational requirements needed for papers like factor analysis, MDS, multiple regression etc. - also for surveys etc. My educated guess is that some of the confirmatory factor analysis for something seminal like Hofsteder's work could easily be done in various countries if the people working on the papers have someone with a web app development backgroun.
pageman··on Ask HN: What do you think makes a good teacher?
taught 300 students in Kabul, Afghanistan at one go (English Class) - what we did was we had PowerPoint, we had a microphone (connected to a mixer and JBL speakers) - and everyone had a sheet so they can follow the lessons, even had think-pair-share (using the PowerPoint as prompts) - had 5 of these classes going at the same time in Kabul University and 1 at the Kabul Polytechnic simultaneously. So you could ask 300 students all at the same time if you set it up properly :)

pageman··on Ramen Profitable
couldn't you theoretically attain ramen profitable with minimal fire fighting and NOT create new features - case in point - 37Signals - assuming they didn't have that big base to start with - they could just have been cruising at ramen profitable and not have added a new feature (which I think they've still refused to do so ...)

pageman··on Maker's Schedule, Manager's Schedule
that's why more people should be on ROWE (http://www.culturerx.com/) then their manager's schedules would be MORE efficient :)

pageman··on The Calculus Trap
I'm convinced that young people should be learning descriptive statistics and move on to inferential statistics online like in: http://davidmlane.com/hyperstat/index.html it's easy now to learn from online data sets and you can collect more information through social media (vs. using physical paper questionnaires.) I learned these kinds of statistics when I was 12 years old - I wish someone told me what I could do multivariate analyses ...
pageman··on Why I'm Quitting Social Media
I got my fb account disabled for putting the eternalmoonwalk.com link during the CNN Live.com/fb coverage of the MJ memorial and I didn't realize how peaceful my life became when I had no fb account - and then the phone calls, IMs, SMS, emails came in, looking for me (people thought something bad happened to me when I got dis-faceboked :P
pageman··on Have you ever been successful in changing your personality?
you can actually differentiate between your MBTI type (i.e. ENTP etc.) vs. your DiSC behavioral pattern - your personality might be the same but depending on the context (home, work, leisure) - your behavior can change from a Di to an IS or even an SC
pageman··on 'This is what an IED looks like. I took this photo near Kandahar.'
it's one of the older models - I used to live in Afghanistan and you could get the very old models of cellphones still in mint condition (case in point, I still have one with me) - I remember being in a hotel when all my signal went away - it turned out that President Karzai was having a meeting next door! :)

pageman··on Twitter is not for teens, Morgan Stanley told by 15-year-old expert
classic interpretations of the Central Limit Theorem considers a sample size of n>29 to be "large"; so if this guy has 29 other friends, that's a "large" enough SS

pageman··on Trent Reznor: What to do as a new/unknown artist
my suggestion - put together a new band - to be your project band - so that you can do what you want - plus, it gets you out of the rut of playing the same stuff again and again :)

try Derek Sivers' http://sivers.org/muckwork and to push your music extra-fast to iTunes for FREE, try WaTunes (disclaimer, used to be their evangelist), for physical distro - go cdbaby.com
