padmanabhan01··on Exposed: green consumers' dirty little secrets
"Because that's what they tested" is bad/fallacious reasoning.

That is like saying males in NYC have ears because they only saw them, when all humans and most animals have ears too

Is the statement 'NYC males have ears' incorrect? No. Misleading ? Definitely.

This might apply to green consumers, but talking about green consumers is misleading when this applies to anyone that did anything good.

padmanabhan01··on Exposed: green consumers' dirty little secrets
So, the logic is that green consumers would think they have already done something good and so they can afford to be a bit loose in other things?

This logic looks like BS to me.

And why is this about green consumers in particular. This logic applies to anyone who does anything good in general. And what exactly is the 'dirty little' secret here?

padmanabhan01··on Notifo (YC W10) Is A Simple Mobile Notifications Platform For Anything
Touching 'create account' doesn't do anything. bug?

I initially had notifications off and turned it on later. for whoever's info.

padmanabhan01··on Psychopaths among us
No one knows he lied. May be Atari paid him just 600. I was assuming that when I posted what I posted.
padmanabhan01··on Psychopaths among us
How does this make him a psychopath? This is just common sense business/ money making.
padmanabhan01··on Top Things That Annoy Programmers
Most jobs exist because there is a need in the market for something. So, most projects are going to be focused on what needs to be done, and not what one would enjoy doing. There is an overlap between the two, but the over lap little (< 10% maybe). I guess this scenario is the cause for the state of affairs of most jobs.programming included.
padmanabhan01··on Google Reader: Play
This could have been designed a whole lot better..
padmanabhan01··on Rules That Warren Buffett Lives By
The problem is that so little is actually written about the average business owner.
padmanabhan01··on You want iPad with multitasking? Chinese made one. Apple logo included
This device is ridiculous in the same sense as how all those iPod clones (looks like iPod, has iPod like controls, but no syncing) and iPhone clones (like vTouch, etc, looks like iPhone but no app store) are ridiculous. These imitations just try to be something else and do a bad job at it.
padmanabhan01··on Stop delegating. What you can learn from Joe DePinto, CEO of 7-eleven
//Don't ask anyone to do something you're not willing to do yourself

So what happens to the kind of work that one would rather not do, but needs to be done?

padmanabhan01··on [dead]
If those words were just 2 out of a million, like if he had a dictionary or newspaper etc, why is the article even mentioning it? The special mention of those words in the article makes it look like he was muttering them or trying to memorize those words in particular etc
padmanabhan01··on [dead]
//"The student acknowledged that a few of the vocabulary words, including "bomb" and "terrorism," may have alarmed authorities, but he also said he needed to learn them in order to understand the news of the day in Arabic-language newspapers."

How is this about arabic then? He would have been detained if he were muttering those words in any language.

padmanabhan01··on Economics in One Lesson: "The Curse of Machinery"
"While traveling by car during one of his many overseas travels, Professor Milton Friedman spotted scores of road builders moving earth with shovels instead of modern machinery. When he asked why powerful equipment wasn’t used instead of so many laborers, his host told him it was to keep employment high in the construction industry. If they used tractors or modern road building equipment, fewer people would have jobs was his host’s logic

Then instead of shovels, why don’t you give them spoons and create even more jobs?” Friedman inquired."

padmanabhan01··on Must-Have Windows Programs (or Windows Programs that I use)
must-haves for whom?

I can't think of any identifiable group of users for whom this list can be the list of must-haves..

padmanabhan01··on Minimalist Steps Towards Passive Income
I do like the concept of minimalism, but there is just way too much BS going on in the name of 'minimalism' these days.

Trivia: //"I’m now the author of an e-book. It’s the Art of Being Minimalist. It’s only 9.95."

In the spirit of minimalism, why not make it 10$ instead of 9.95 ?

padmanabhan01··on The tweet that infuriated Steve Jobs

As long as he can keep making great products.

padmanabhan01··on Amazon-Macmillan fight heats up: "Available everywhere except Amazon"
Really? If I can't find it in Amazon, I would go to Barnes and Nobles or somewhere else, but I can't imagine buying a different book because it's not available in Amazon..

But then, none I have wanted have been unavailable there.yet.

padmanabhan01··on Attn Joe [Hewitt]: Should we trust iPad?

padmanabhan01··on Apple's New Thing (iPod) - Oct. 2001
I think this is the best comment there.

"I really wanted to like it. Really. But do the math: 20GB hard drive: $199 from APS tech. MP3 player: $50 from Best Buy. You save $150 plus get an extra 15 Gig of storage! "

padmanabhan01··on Some SEO Advice For Bill Gates

padmanabhan01··on Steve Jobs Is Building AppleWorld - And Google's Running Scared
// 24 months from now, the two stocks will have changed places and Apple will be at $585 and Google will be at $210.

I can't believe someone is writing an article in a finance site that doesn't know what stock prices mean, in absolute terms.

padmanabhan01··on Google, do not take Chinese netizens hostage
Ok. A devil's advocate question. If US government can monitor US citizen's emails, why shouldn't Chinese govt monitor the emails of Chinese citizens? Of course, there is difference in what the monitoring will lead to in the 2 cases, but the ability to monitor is what it is. right?
padmanabhan01··on 'Avatar' pulled from 2-D screens by Chinese government
Think about it. If Chinese Govt is willing to sell stuff to us dirt cheap by using dirt cheap labor, It is beneficial for us to buy them. It makes economic sense for us to buy something for less than what it's worth. We gain by doing so. The Chinese Govt gains too, by getting more than what they pay for the people. The real losers are those who work dirt cheap. So, end of the day, it's not our problem. If I can save 200 or 300 dollars on my iPhone because of them, I am glad.
padmanabhan01··on Google to mobile industry: 'F*** you very much'
//you have various outlets to mobilize change and if you don't act on them it's no ones fault but yours

I disagree. I should not need to mobilize change or act on it to be able to have certain things. Mobilizing change has a cost (time, effort, money etc) and I should not be forced to pay those costs for things an individual in a civilized society ought to be entitled to.

padmanabhan01··on Apple is terrified of iphone web-apps being as good as native apps
//But it does kind of suggest that apple is going out of their way to impede the quality of web-apps on the iphone rather than try to help it along

I guess Apple has an incentive in doing so. Improving web apps improves it for all phones. They lose their comparative advantage in doing so.

padmanabhan01··on How to tell co-worker he has gross eating style?
Why not tell those that judge someone based on his eating style not to? Especially when those gestures are not considered gross in other cultures.
