p_h··on China airs documentary proving military university is hacking U.S. targets
It's depressing that this is so out in the open, and it seems like there's nothing America can do to defend itself.
p_h··on Steve Yegge quits Google in the middle of his speech [OSCON Data 2011]
I've had multiple math professors tell me to study as much math as I can while I'm young, because once you're over 30 it's a lot harder to learn math. I'm in my 20's so I'm not sure if this is true.

It also seems to me that the math you would learn in an O'Reilly book isn't in depth enough to contribute to research.

p_h··on Why RIM is no Nortel
The Blackberry does have some advantages over other consumer smart phones. RIM's built a lot of infrastructure for dealing with corporate clients and security. It's probably going to be a long time before the president of the United States switches from a Blackberry.
p_h··on Things You Could Buy for $4B Instead of LinkedIn
Looks like buying the puts was a bad idea
p_h··on Whom Should You Hire at a Startup? (Attitude over Aptitude)
My favourite quote: "I always have a role for talented people." "What role? Who the F knows."
p_h··on Nexus S
It says there's a 3.5mm headphone jack
p_h··on Economist books of the year (science and technology picks)
delete your Economist cookie. That will get you past the weekly article limit for non-subscribers.
p_h··on My experience of selling the same apps on iOS and on Android (with numbers)
Have any other Canadians had trouble selling apps on Android?
p_h··on From 0 to 450k, an App Store Success Story - With Charts and Numbers
too bad, sounds like you deserve it
p_h··on From 0 to 450k, an App Store Success Story - With Charts and Numbers
I wonder if Matt is one of Toronto's "App Kings": http://www.torontolife.com/magazine/2010/11/
p_h··on L - the Little Language on Top of Tcl/Tk
Might be a bit late for this, but it's a real bitch to google help for a programming language with a name like 'L'.

That's what I learned from 'R' anyways.

p_h··on Ask HN: Who Is Hiring? (October 2010 Edition)
Holy crap, what is the story behind making a start up in Yellowknife?
p_h··on Ask HN: Choice of (romantic) partner - big impact?
Some people may interpret your words in any way that can start a conflict, but I agree with what I think you intended to say. Of course there are plenty of women capable of handling mathematical and technical discussions, but even so, in a romantic relationship people relate to each other at an emotional level.
p_h··on Ask HN: How do I turn 100K into 1 million?
Well then for starters maybe you should spend some of that money on life insurance.
p_h··on Harvard Business School Study Shows that Angel Investing is King
causation vs. correlation
p_h··on 8.75 Pieces of Highly Pragmatic Startup Start'n Gold
unrelated to the article's contents; this page's bright green background absolutely made my eyes burn while trying to read the article.
p_h··on NBC's broken Olympic coverage
yeah, it's just weird not having CBC cover the olympics
p_h··on Ask HN: You must build a backlink index of the web. How do you do it?
I think there would be a healthy demand for that service
p_h··on The Nerd Handbook
This is genius
p_h··on Times Higher Education 2009: Top 200 World Universities
Yeah, no school spirit, and how does U of T lose marks on international students? I don't really see how the student population could be more diverse.
p_h··on Statistics and Computer Science
I'm in the same boat, I graduated with a computer degree but I didn't learn much about stats. Since then I've gone back to take part time courses to catch up. I find it really interesting and useful. I wish my school made stats a part of the required curriculum.
p_h··on What Visualization Tool/Software Should You Use? – Getting Started
Does anyone have an opinion on the best visualization tool?
p_h··on Lost Charity
Seriously, we already have too much cure for cancer
p_h··on Ask HN: What happens when a founder gets divorced?
The ex gets access half of the founder's equity, but a good incorporation (or shareholder's?) contract will allow the other partners to buy out the wife's shares before she can actually become a "partner" in the company.
p_h··on How A Forum Site Grew Monthly Revenue From $400 to $400,000
Works for me
p_h··on America's unjust sex laws
I don't think sex offenders are being punished too much, it's just America's definition of sex offender that goes too far.
p_h··on America's unjust sex laws
Here here, how did this get to the top of HackerNews? Maybe the whole California kidnapper put this back in peoples minds.
p_h··on Downturn Dims Prospects Even at Top Law Schools
I can't say this is necessarily a bad thing.
p_h··on A Tale of Two $100,000 Jobs — A Tale of Two Americas
I can't believe a teacher can make more than 100k a year plus pension for working 8:15-3:15 9 months a year.
p_h··on Intel will have 22nm fabrication process in 2012 and 4nm technology in 2022
One big problem with having gates that small is the massive electron leak. Energy flows between the gates even when their off, so the power efficiency goes way down.
