ozarker··on Working with Git Patches in Apple Mail (2023)
I think you could set up postfix to smtp forward to those services. So it could handle the oauth2 and you wouldn’t need to configure your client
ozarker··on Microsoft employees recall their early years
I read Hard Drive by James Wallace and Jim Erickson a couple years ago. It was written between Windows 3.1 and 95. Super interesting to read Microsoft history from the perspective of that time period. I loved it.
ozarker··on The Early History of Deferred Shading and Lighting
A Shrek game being the first published game with deferred rendering is hilarious
ozarker··on A sysadmin's rant about feed readers and crawlers (2022)
I was just thinking a header with a suggested poll rate might be nice
ozarker··on Kafka at the low end: how bad can it get?
SQS, Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, QPID, etc… any message broker that provides the competing consumer pattern. though I’ll say having managed many of these message brokers myself, it’s definitely better paying for a managed service. They’re a nightmare when you start running into problems.
ozarker··on OpenRA – Classic strategy games rebuilt for the modern era
Woah this looks awesome, thanks for sharing!
ozarker··on Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode – Out Now – Official Release Trailer [video]
I’ve been playing it on Mac with crossover. Works great
ozarker··on I ditched the algorithm for RSS
That’s gotten pretty hard to do recently since Musk cracked down on api access
ozarker··on Tokyo University Used "Tiananmen Square" Keyword to Block Chinese Admissions
How does this blocking work with TLS? Does the Chinese firewall MITM HTTPS somehow?
ozarker··on Fundamentals of Radiance Cascades
The guy that developed the technique works on Path of Exile. They’re using it for POE2, he gave an awesome talk about it here

ozarker··on We outsmarted CSGO cheaters with IdentityLogger
I’ve gotten a taste of that experience playing older multiplayer games that have a small player base. I much prefer it to games with millions of players where you’ll never see the people you play a match with again

I also love games with community ran servers for the same reason

ozarker··on Getting my daily news from a dot matrix printer
I love it. I’ve switched a lot of my news consumption to RSS. This feels like another step in that direction that I’d love to try.
ozarker··on Programming terrain from scratch using C++ and OpenGL by Shamus Young (2006)
Man that’s a blast from the past
ozarker··on Anxious Generation – How Safetyism and Social Media Are Damaging the Kids
Look at the sex offender registry in your area
ozarker··on Pipes: A spiritual successor to Yahoo Pipes
I love NodeRED, been running it in my homelab for a few years
ozarker··on H.264 Is Magic (2016)
He’s a time traveler from 38056
ozarker··on AMD CEO Lisa Su reminisces about designing the PS3's infamous Cell processor
I think I heard the games Valve published for PS3 didn’t really use the cell stuff
ozarker··on Why I recommend Renovate over any other dependency update tools
This sounds awesome can you share any details on how you got this to work?
ozarker··on Testcontainers
I’ve used it with podman before, worked fine
ozarker··on Juno – A YouTube Client for Vision Pro
There aren’t recommendations like youd see on the YouTube front page. There are “next video” recommendations like YouTube though
ozarker··on Dungeons and Dragons turns 50 today
It’s figurative in most sects I believe. Catholics take it literally
ozarker··on Dungeons and Dragons turns 50 today
My dad played AD&D as a kid like you, and introduced it to us when we were young (like your kids). We got our cousins into it and we spent every summer adventuring. When 5e came out we tried it a couple times and really didn’t like it for the reasons you mentioned.

Coming back to D&D as an adult (coworkers play during lunch once a week) has been strange. The new style of play feels rigid. I can understand the standardization to try and create a uniform experience but it feels like a little of that AD&D magic is lost. Also I’m an adult now haha

ozarker··on AMD Reveals Next-Gen Desktop Processors for Extreme PC Gaming
You can find used 1080ti's for like $100 nowadays. I still use one for 1440p gaming and get excellent frames with most games. Kinda mind blowing value
ozarker··on Ask HN: What skill do you want to develop or improve in 2024?
My wife bought me a software defined radio kit for Christmas. I want to learn how to use it with a longer term goal of using it to pull down images from weather satellites like I’ve seen others do on YouTube
ozarker··on Godot: A Collaboration with Google and the Forge
The Forge helped Bethesda out on Starfield’s rendering. I find this a little worrying considering how badly that game performs with mediocre graphics
ozarker··on YouTube's Anti-Adblock and uBlock Origin
I think he’s referring to the Adblock as the free service here.
ozarker··on Exploiting DNS response parsing on the Wii U
There’s a big 3rd party server scene for the PS2 as well using alternate DNS servers. Pretty awesome to see people care enough about these old games to set stuff up like this
ozarker··on Lockheed Martin Dark Ice: a quantum magnetometer geopositioning system
Raspberry!
ozarker··on Ogre 14.1
Ogre was a huge part of my learning how to program when I was a kid. Makes me happy to see it still going
ozarker··on K3s – Lightweight Kubernetes
I use it for self hosting. It really simplified my reverse proxy config like you said. I use the internal networking between services quite a bit. I have it auto-provisioning volumes on my NAS and using them via NFS. I love it to death and would say it has simplified my setup overall. But the upfront cost of learning k8s is indeed high.
