orangetuba··on Why do people post on [bad platform] instead of [good platform]?
Please take your activism elsewhere...
orangetuba··on A language that supercedes C, but with a borrow-checker
Thank you! That is definitely an interesting language. However, it seems like development has stopped. The GitHub page says: "Note: For personal reasons, I'm on an extended break from the coding side of Vale, feel free to DM me on discord for details. - Evan Ovadia"
orangetuba··on Is Ada safer than Rust?
I always wondered why you brilliant people who "get Lisp" never actually released anything written in Lisp.
orangetuba··on Swedish dockworkers are refusing to unload Teslas at ports in broad boycott move
Norway is not nearly as woke as Sweden, so I doubt it.
orangetuba··on Swedish dockworkers are refusing to unload Teslas at ports in broad boycott move
Typical swedes. It is probably the most woke country in the world... but they are paying a price for that now.
orangetuba··on A language like C, but with a borrow-checker
Excellent, that's precisely the thing I was looking for! Thank you! I see that there are some tricky issues that would have to be solved with regards to ergonomy, even with an imagined subset of Rust.
orangetuba··on Mojo is now available on Mac
It is a closed source programming language, yes.
orangetuba··on AMD may get across the CUDA moat
Nvidia on Linux is more like running Windows 95 from the gulag, and you're covered in ticks. I absolutely detest Nvidia because of the Linux hell they've created.
orangetuba··on Making life (even) harder for proprietary modules
I just switched to AMD Radeon as well to get away from the nVidia hellscape that is nVidia and Linux.
orangetuba··on Candle: Torch Replacement in Rust
So if you take a Python program and you add the mental effort of having to deal with static types, lifetimes, the borrow checker and performance considerations, and this added mental effort actually allows you to write the program faster?

That is incredible. It's like being able to carve- and install a door from a slab of wood faster than installing a prefabricated door.

orangetuba··on Candle: Torch Replacement in Rust
I couldn't agree more. This has turned me away from Rust as well.
orangetuba··on Why I Left Rust
I couldn't agree more. This is pure manipulation.
orangetuba··on Why I Left Rust
I've attended a few Rust conferences and events, and they have all been unusually politicized. There has been a very strong emphasis on how inclusive the community is, which raises some red flags. It is akin to someone repeatedly expressing how smart or funny they are... it makes you wonder why. I was waiting for something like this to happen.
orangetuba··on A lightweight (~5000 LOC) Python interpreter for game engines
HAHA,good one!
orangetuba··on Ask HN: Where are all the parties?
Unfortunately I don't even live in the US, but BBQ with someone Argentinian would be incredible.
orangetuba··on A Lecturer Showed a Painting of the Prophet Muhammad. She Lost Her Job
It is not similar at all. Kids all over the world draw swastikas on bathroom stalls and such, just to provoke. Rarely do they get beheaded/stabbed as a consequence, though.

Swastikas are not acceptable, but very few have any strong personal feelings about it. The prophet of this ideology, however, is like a (glorified) family member to 1/4 of the world's population, and you can very easily get killed for depicting him. The most recent and well-known case was the stabbing of Salman Rushdie.

orangetuba··on A Lecturer Showed a Painting of the Prophet Muhammad. She Lost Her Job
They have very large representations compared to every other major non-christian religion in european countries. Islam is also the fastest growing religion in the world, by far.

On top of that, it is the religion that gets in unproportional amount of media time in every european country due to all the problems it represents.

orangetuba··on Programming languages with small surface area
Wow, I had forgotten that this language even existed. Someone said that OO never clicked until they learned Smalltalk. Perhaps I should give a try, and perhaps it can improve my Python :-)
orangetuba··on Programming languages with small surface area
Thank you. I think you're absolutely right about JS. I would prefer to avoid dead technology, which is one of the reasons I haven't spent much time with schemes like Racket or GNU Guile.
orangetuba··on Programming languages with small surface area
This sounds excellent! I will have a look at it.
orangetuba··on Programming languages with small surface area
Interesting perspective. Thank you very much! I didn't quite get the part about Ada - is it a language with a large surface area?
orangetuba··on Programming languages with small surface area
Thank you so much for taking the time to compile this list! I had no idea C# has so many keywords.
orangetuba··on “Secrets” about the consumer audio business you may find interesting
There is a lot of talk about DIY here, which sounds cool, but I'm also pretty lazy and I have started way too many projects. What are some really underestimated systems that you can buy?
orangetuba··on Long-term cardiac pathology in individuals with mild initial Covid-19 illness
There are also a number of cases where someone got mild covid, and then months later got vaccinated and developed pericarditis and myocarditis.
orangetuba··on Blocking Kiwifarms
Time to boycott Cloudflare.
orangetuba··on Why do some humans love chili peppers?
Can't tolerate? The world champions in chili eating contests are caucasian.
orangetuba··on If everyone bicycled like the Danes, we’d avoid a UK’s worth of emissions
Yeah, we just have to make all the other cities completely flat like Copenhagen.
orangetuba··on If everyone bicycled like the Danes, we’d avoid a UK’s worth of emissions
Now we just have to make all the other countries entirely flat. Here in Norway, going to work by bike is like a triathlon in terms of effort.
orangetuba··on Ask HN: How to find a small town to relocate for remote work?
There are many reasons why college towns are great, but particularly this one:

In small towns, people are very nosy, and it gets incredibly tiring after a while. People stare at you and look you up and down. Except, when it's a college town, because they're used to having strangers around.

orangetuba··on Role of Lactobacillus Reuteri in Human Health and Diseases
I just went and bought this stuff. I hope it works wonders.
