operatingthetan··on Seattle Bans Rental Junk Fees
I don't think I can have a conversation about this if you don't understand the concept of "junk fees."
operatingthetan··on Seattle Bans Rental Junk Fees
Pet rent seldom has anything to do with damage. If you pay pet rent, and then move out and the property manager finds damage, they make you pay for the damage out of your deposit anyway.

The last place I rented had pet rent AND a deposit. The rent definitely a junk fee. It did not accumulate or get tracked.

operatingthetan··on Senior Engineers Are the Next DRAM Shortage
Because I don't care what a machine "thinks" I care what a real human thinks. We are losing the internet's remaining culture by consuming this type of content.
operatingthetan··on Poll shows Americans are increasingly alarmed by AI's ecological footprint
This is pure whataboutism.
operatingthetan··on Why is Google still serving dodgy ads?
Don't they? Kalshi, crypto stuff, sports betting, random products that lie about what they do.
operatingthetan··on San Franciscans are having sex in robotaxis, and nobody is talking about it
The robotaxi companies could stop this easily if they wanted to.
operatingthetan··on AI models ran real businesses: They sent $12,431 in fake invoices, lost $3,200
>(model confidential)
operatingthetan··on The Computer Museum of America reclamation project
Paul Allen did not structure the financials for it to succeed, which is unfortunate. I got to go there once and it was amazing.
operatingthetan··on The Internet Is Kind of a Predatory Cesspit Now
I hope you are right
operatingthetan··on The internet is kind of a predatory cesspit now
My feeling is that the current state of the internet is just exposing how humans behave normally, the guardrails have just fallen away. Everyone is immune to shame, the threat of consequences etc. You see this in real life on the streets too.
operatingthetan··on Humanity has the debate about AI consciousness backwards
"The ownership class is so smart" is just ownership class propaganda. Wielding power is brutish, not smart. They keep selling us innovation as some transcendent tech that will free the masses (Arab Spring anyone?) yet every time the tech ends up shifting power up. AI will be the same.
operatingthetan··on Humanity has the debate about AI consciousness backwards
The human model of tribalistic leadership (the biggest, loudest, most confident patriarch is chosen to lead) is definitely outdated by 10,000 years or more. AI could disrupt that but I'm not sure how much better it will be, given it's a text generator.
operatingthetan··on Humanity has the debate about AI consciousness backwards
We've been so primed by popular media to think that we will invent AI and it will be conscious and we will essentially enslave it. I'm open to the idea that we could invent conscious AI eventually, but the word salad generators we have now are definitely not it.
operatingthetan··on Ask HN: Coding is a solved problem. What is left for experienced engineers?
There probably will be a step beyond "LLM writes code" though.
operatingthetan··on Feature Request: Support AGENTS.md
Well ya, but they have written posts to mods explaining that their long term goal is to limit scraping.
operatingthetan··on Feature Request: Support AGENTS.md
They are trying to stop scraping, I guess.
operatingthetan··on Cursor launches Origin, GitHub alternative
True, but people risk their lives by using his vehicles every day, why not YOLO their code too?
operatingthetan··on AI is removing the middle class of software engineering?
True, and the explanations about "solving big problems" are each engineer's personal brand and justification for having a job. I'm sure some of those people exist, but they probably aren't the ones doing it rote on forums.
operatingthetan··on Jimothy the raccoon has a rare spinal condition. Here's what that means
All good
operatingthetan··on Jimothy the raccoon has a rare spinal condition. Here's what that means
Attempt to re-read what I wrote.

>it's one of the only north Seattle neighborhoods vaguely affordable to buy in

Most north Seattle neighborhoods north of Ballard are more affordable to buy in than Ballard. Exceptions being North Beach / Blue Ridge, Windermere, Laurelhurst and similar.

operatingthetan··on NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook
I should have said replace.
operatingthetan··on NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook
But they renamed Gemini CLI to Antigravity CLI. And it's worse.
operatingthetan··on Prioritize mental health, and why communication is so important
Go read the comment you responded to again.
operatingthetan··on Prioritize mental health, and why communication is so important
The solution to neurodivergence is church? I'm sorry but come on, this blatant proselytizing is not appropriate here.
operatingthetan··on What are Forward Deployed Engineers, and why are they so in demand? (2025)
A consulting I used to work at started calling their engineers this. All of them. They just follow trends.
operatingthetan··on AI 2040 and the cult of intelligence
If you follow his recent posts he's on a bit of a spiral with how he thinks about AI.
operatingthetan··on AI 2040 and the cult of intelligence
I find it strange how seldom the privacy aspects of LLMs come up. Some people are feeding Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic almost literally every topic they think about during the day. Those companies could just use another LLM to find people likely to commit a crime, and then you have the Minority Report in real life.
operatingthetan··on Punk, or why I don't stream anymore
ok
operatingthetan··on Apple Silicon Exec Explains Mac Mini AI Demand and On-Device Future
Yep. In my areas of expertise I can easily catch it coming up with wrong information, bad calculations etc. So laypeople are probably being led astray quite often.
