oifjsidjf··on A startup says it’s begun releasing particles into the atmosphere
This is a financial "scam": They sell "cooling credits", so you can pay them to recieve "cooling credits". So eg if you are a heavy polluter you can just pay them and say "hey, I payed them, they say their science is good, so we've offset our pollution".

The articles cleary states that their "science" (there is none) is dangerous since no-one knows what the potential side-effects could be. Eg how do you know that these particles won't accumulate in the atmosphere and cause over-cooling etc...

Horribly naive and dangerous.

You truly have to be a midwit to even think such a thing will have no unintended side-effects.

oifjsidjf··on Synthetic Meat Will Change the Ethics of Eating
Someone on hacker news in some other thread put it nicely:

1) Vegans won't eat this, but vegans want meat eaters to eat this.

2) Meat eaters won't eat this, but meat eaters want vegans to eat this.

More and more people are waking up to the fact that eating ultraprocessed food is a bad idea.

oifjsidjf··on Milk and dairy products: good or bad for human health? (2016)
The sad state of nutrition (and pharma and fake meat studies) is that this is everywhere...from meat to diary to plants to Adventist Church sponsoring studies which (obviously) confirms their vegeterian-interwined faith.

The same goes for "plant milk" studies etc...which people like to compare real milk to.

Some extra info on diary:

Traditionaly most cultures eat fermented diary (cheese, kefir,...) NOT raw milk.

Mongols etc... who are known to drink milk drink horse milk, which has a different nutritional composition than cows milk, so eg people saying "Mongols drink milk bro so you should also bro" forget to mention that they don't drink the same milk as we on the west do.

Perhaps the issue is on your side because you don't ever even consider eg the precationary principle?
oifjsidjf··on Why is programming easy for those who're not academically inclined?
It could be that academics hold to the false notion of trying to adhere to design patterns everywhere, which hardly ever works in practice after the software matures and might only work a smaller/certain abstraction layers of the lifecycle of the software but then it breaks down and you're in no-mans land.

The academia can also throw in many moronic notions of "how you SHOULD be programming" which is only a detriment really since how academics think you should programm has no relevance to how programming is like in the real world.

Academical indoctrination and useless baggage basicaly.

This.

oifjsidjf··on The world’s biggest cultured meat factory is under construction in the U.S.
The dangerous part is "that it's a novel food that was never eaten by humans".

All cultures that eat bad food have died, so there is a survivorship bias because we now think "just eat this food": but only cultures who came up with a healthy diet have survived throughout history.

Nothing guarantees you that this food is "healthy" since we cannot analize the long term of effects of these foods with any modern technology.

oifjsidjf··on Mass extinction by 2100 – one-quarter of Earth’s species will die
You think you're being clever but you don't get it: it's NOT POSSIBLE to predict complex system for such long times in advance because they "explode"/diverge way too much so no amount of "validity" or "confidence intervals" help you because you do NOT KNOW HOW MUCH THEY WILL DIVERGE: and THEY WILL.

You can't even predict a double pendulum after a second or two: nature is trillions of double pendulums in a chain: you must be delusional to think you can predict that!

oifjsidjf··on Mass extinction by 2100 – one-quarter of Earth’s species will die
What's your point?

Nothing that you wrote makes those simulations correct.

>>.. interlink with other factors to predict a pattern of coextinctions..

How do they know these links are correct? They do not, and can not.

>> By running many simulations ...

So they themselves admit that they don't know which simulation is correct, or in other words, they silently admit they have no idea. So if they compute 1000 different scenarios then:

a) How do they know any of those is correct?

b) If you have 1k scenarios to choose from how do you know which one is correct?

You cannot.

>> ... over three main scenarios ...

How do they know there will be only 3? Cannot know that. Nothing guarantuess that these 3 will happen, uncompultable.

>> we show that there will be up to 34% more co-extinctions..

Imagine being so naive you actualy state it to a 1% accuracy lmao.

oifjsidjf··on Mass extinction by 2100 – one-quarter of Earth’s species will die
Protecting stuff vs predicting something that you cannot predict are two completely different things.
oifjsidjf··on Mass extinction by 2100 – one-quarter of Earth’s species will die
We can't predict the weather for 1 day ahead and now these clowns think they can predict something as complex as Earth for 100 years in the future lol.

It can NEVER be done, it's not a question of computing power: it's sheer academic and scientific ignorance: it's IMPOSSIBLE to predict such a complex system.

If the Sun eg has a cycle which causes a significant cooling and warming: can they predict that? Obviously not. And yet such an event can change global warming/cooling direction completely.

The naivety of these scientists who model future events of horrible.

And then politicians and the masses belive them.

Go and look eg at their COVID predictions to see how wrong they were.

Funny how they aren't being that loud now when their "great supercomputer models" can be seen to be BS.

The point is that such large scale models CANNOT be made, it's physical impossible.

And no, you can NOT just take an "average" because a complex system can move in such a unpredictable way all of the sudden that the "average" would also completely change in an extreme fasion (if such a system can even be said to have an "average").

oifjsidjf··on The world’s biggest cultured meat factory is under construction in the U.S.
From a nutritional standpoint I'd never touch this with a 10 foot pole.

The ridicoulous belief that they can dump some vitamin powders into this and then say this is in any shape or form nutritionously adequate is absurd.

Also have fun you and your children being guniea pigs for a novel food that humans have never eaten.

The last time we tried such an experiment (~1950 and today) the USA ended up with 30M out of 300M total population (10%) with diabetes.

Kids are getting liver disease, which until ~1980 was unheard of (only in alchoholics up to that point).

Not to mention the destruction of human teeth and the explosion in other diseases related to metabolic illness and obesity.

Knowing this, I have no idea how people can be stupid enough to feed any novel "food" to themselves or their children.

oifjsidjf··on The world’s biggest cultured meat factory is under construction in the U.S.
I've never seen a meat eater forcing anything upon a vegan.

But you see the inverse all the time.

oifjsidjf··on Helsinki hospitals severely overcrowded, emergency rooms full to capacity
This. It's the same in a country where I live in which has a sociliazed health care.

Nurses and young doctors are paid like shit so they're obviously all quitting and those that remain get so much more workload they they eventually also quit.

And then the ministers/politicians complain that "the doctors and nurses have no right to protest again" lol.

oifjsidjf··on Is anyone else getting cold/sick much more often these days?
Taking multivitamins means shit: most of it are in unabsorbable forms and unless you have severe nutrient deficiencies they will do jack shit.

Change your diet do a more ancestral/paleo one. There are indicators that the gut microbiome is a important factor in this: as you moved away from you parents you probably started eating different foods which further destroyed your body/gut.

Eg read Weston Price's book Nutrition and Phyical Degeneration for a clear example of what the modern diet did to us (and you).

oifjsidjf··on [dead]
This is a tactic that big corporations use all the time: whenever someone opposes something (eg wind farms) they make the spurious connection of those opposing eg wind farms with some conspiracy theory (by inserting fake actors in the scene).

Then they point out and say "see how crazy these anti-wind warm people are lol don't listen to them since they belive the XYZ conspiracy theory".

So it's actually the inverse of what the article says.

"Free healthcare" lmao.

Who do you think pays for it? TAXPAYERS! It's not free!

And usually in those kind of "free healthcare" systems the private clinics get looked down upon or are even restricted/blocked via laws in order to "preserve the 'free' healthcare system".

Thus the people have even less choice. There are many countries with this kind of a "free healthcare" system.

I'm living in one of them.

Want to go to a specialist? Sorry bro, that's gonna be 6 months of waiting time...

So anyone who is not piss poor will go into a private clinic.

oifjsidjf··on Crohn's Disease takes its toll – back in 2023
You can find many cases of complete Chron's reversal on a carnivore diet, no butchery surgery needed.

Tho some people need ~6 months for improvement to start showing.

There could be multiple reasons why carnivore might work, but other diets could also:

1) Carnivore is an extreme elimination diet, so eg gluten is fully excluded.

2) The gut temporary cannot tolerate fiber, carnivore has none.

3) Carnivore is the most low-carb diet possible, low carb diets are used all over the place (if you look outside of the archaic "modern" medicine) to treat many, many disorders.

oifjsidjf··on Why aren’t medical breakthroughs in obesity a bigger deal?
Imagine cutting up your own stomach instead of admiting to yourself that you have changed your diet incorrectly...sad state of humanity.

Or using drugs...

Weight loss can be done with food only.

"Reducing calories" is NOT a good way to loose weight and KEEP IT off as it's unsustainable due to hunger.

The general dietary patterns that one finds across tribal people/historyical are two: 1) high carb, low fat 2) high fat, low carb.

Pick one and stick to it.

As long as you mix carbs and fats the body goes crazy since due to the Randle cycle the body cannot effectively process both at the same time + it causes blood sugar buildup.

Guess what kind of a diet is the Western diet? The one that MIXES fats and carbs in HIGH AMOUNTS (eg 40% carbs, 40% fat, 20% protein as calories).

Such a diet is cancer.

Also do note that some obese people will NOT see weight loss for the 1st few months at all if they have a chronicaly elevated insulin, which can take months to normalize. And until insulin falls down to a normal level it's IMPOSSIBLE to lose fat since insulin is KEEPING the fat in the fat cells.

oifjsidjf··on Why do you guys hate school so much?
Counterexample: school teaches you all kind of useless shit that you will NEVER need in life but when you question that they shoot you down like you're stupid. This is the greatest sin of teachers and schools. Kids are NOT stupid, they see this very well.

Do you know what schools don't teach? How much $$$ money you lose through taxes.

Just eat real food.

oifjsidjf··on Reboot Food Manifesto [pdf]
TLDR: this is pushing for fake meat food. So one can safely assume it's the investors pushing and lobbying hard for this.

It says that animal agroculture is very bad.

Counterexamples:

>> These cells need to constantly eat to grow and this require proteins, fats and glucose-these will all come from crops, very often pesticide laden mono crops like peas, soy, corn etc.. which as we all know by now requires massive pesticide related death to grow

>> Now remember these cells will not have an immune system and will be highly susceptible to viral, fungal and bacterial infection and so massive clean rooms will be require with the likelihood of possible virucides , fungicides and antibiotics

>> The other interesting thing is that you can’t go from Petri dish to massive million gallon bioreactor in one step as the cells clumps would fall apart and thus some estimate that more than 100 progressively larger size reactors will be required

>> This means the cell cultures will have to be transferred repeatedly from progressively larger and larger reactors and with each transfer the risk of contamination/infection is present

>> The cell based meats often require a non meat scaffold built out of either a type of nanofiber or sometimes a vegetable based scaffolding in order to hold its shape so it doesn’t turn in to blob of goo

Don't be fooled, this isn't about the environment: it's about making shitload of $$$ from a new type of food since the meat market is massive so if they can steal the meat market by taxing/limiting real meat there will be insane profits in this.
