oidar··on The AI Race Just Got Awkward
What are you thoughts on it's performance compared to 4.6?
oidar··on AI 'kill switch' may need to be mandatory, Anthropic co-founder tells BBC
> Well, that’s because that’s not how it went.

Oh, you mean the one where OpenAI deliberately disabled the safety protcols? Where the point of the experiment was to see if it could break out of it's container? Yeah, how you describe it isn't how it went either.

oidar··on AI 'kill switch' may need to be mandatory, Anthropic co-founder tells BBC
Like a power cord? or a network connection? You don't use those already? Also when people talk about LLM escaping - where exactly would an LLM escape to? Cancún? Ridiculous.
oidar··on Ask HN: What default model do you use and why?
> on a GB10 cluster

I'd love to hear more about your setup. I have a single GB10 and am thinking about adding an additional one.

oidar··on Detecting and countering misuse of AI: September 2026
It also blocks my ability to talk about Emily Dickinson in other languages/scripts. Apparently, the poem: "Because I could not stop for Death" is too dangerous.

archive.is is more hostile than twitter now. It wants me to scan a QR code with my phone to prove I'm a real person.

>you're dreaming up edge cases

Are you saying that bigots are edge cases?

oidar··on Poetry book that Anthropic tried to censor
Earlier this year, i turned some of Emily Dickinson’s poems into Shavian script. When i asked Claude to make sure i was doing the transcriptions correctly, it stopped responding. Her work is plainly in the pd, I’m not sure what would cause Claude to stop working with it.
oidar··on Burnt out on a three-day week
Hey Claude - The information in this essay is fine, but you have got to stop leaning on correctio as a rhetorical device. The whole essay is built on it. We've talked about this before and it's grating because you use it in every piece of writing you produce. It's just not how people write.
oidar··on Audacity 4.0
>> The following Audacity 3 features are not available in Audacity 4.0, but we're working on adding them in future releases.

Time Tracks Note/MIDI tracks Mixer Macro Manager and the scripting pipe VAMP and LADSPA plugin hosting Play-at-speed Sync-Lock and the old tool modes were replaced by the workflows described above.

>>Additionally, Audacity 4 ships with some missing exporting and rendering features, analyzers, and effects.

oidar··on The Lost Art of Carrying Loads
Thanks for the essay Claude. It’s good info, just something feels off. It doesn’t feel like a person wrote this article… what are 10 options to fix this?
oidar··on StemDeck, a free, open-source and local AI stem separator
Look pretty. Can we load alternative stem separators like Spleeter, MDX-Net, and RoFormer implementations? I'd like to be able to AB them for different stems types.
oidar··on Show HN: Pause – weekly curated 1:1 coffee matches for London professionals
interesting idea, you should update the copy to have non-AI like writing though. It reads very AI generated atm.
oidar··on Vintage Artificial Intelligence: Before It Got Awkward
My favorite old AI named Tik-Tok - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tik-Tok_(novel)

>Tik-Tok finds that he can do as he pleases, and he secretly commits various hideous crimes for his amusement. After manipulating both robots and humans to cause chaos and bloodshed, Tik-Tok becomes wealthy (partly through health care privatization) and is finally elected Vice President of the United States.

oidar··on Opus 5.0 drives incoherence into the stratosphere
A big part of it is just the thinking tokens leaking into the main output. Imagine how weird it would be if our "thinking" was evident to the people we are having a conversation with.

Just with those two sentences above, there were about 10 different considerations that if typed out would have resulted in a jumbled mess.

I wonder how much output text it would take to work out the key that the watermarker is using?
oidar··on OpenAI's new device will be hockey puck-sized and cost over $300
It's going to be a phone, a screenless phone. Which is fine I guess, but only the obnoxious people that watch youtube on speaker with everyone giving them a death stare are going to use this. Maybe that's a bit too harsh, it will definately have a bluetooth connection for earbuds, so it might not be so grating. If they roll the data into the ChatGPT subscription, it will probably pick up a decent # of users. I can't imagine having a main device only use a voice interface though. Skimming an email visually is way more efficient than having an LLM summarize it.
oidar··on You can build an AI agent's memory layer with only Go's standard library
@cheikhdev - No one is going to read this with all the LLMisms. If you want to write for developers (and soon everyone else in the world) - you'll have to use your own sentences. Use the LLMs to brainstorm, outline and check grammar - but all the sentences - write those yourself. It'll be 10x better, I promise.
oidar··on OpenAI says my prepaid credits were consumed, refuses to show any record
Anthropic does that as well. I lost $200, so I now I pay as I go and don't worry about "sales"

oidar··on I obtained Claude Opus 5 system prompt
For academic research, these "quotation" policies are a real hindrance to getting actual research done. So often, even when reading directly from research papers (cognitive science, neuroscience adjacent) Claude Opus makes shit up - so a quotation is needed to figure out where claude's claim is from. So when you ask for quotations, it spends nearly 1/3 of it's tokens trying figure out how much it can and can't quote. And it still winds up being wrong.

oidar··on In Germany if you say a restaurant is just ok they send the gestapo after you
> They also removed dislike buttons from YouTube a while ago.

The dislike button is still there. What was changed was the dislike button no longer shows an aggregate count of dislikes. Youtube did remove the dislike button from youtube shorts like 2 months ago, probably to mirror the experience on TikTok. I think a like button is a more powerful signal for a short form content algo anyways - swiping away from a video before it's finished is equivalent to a dislike for that purpose.

oidar··on Kaiser nurses say AI, surveillance are making their jobs and patient care worse
I'd like my providers to use Abridge for their notes, but because Abridge doesn't allow patients to opt out of using the data for training I decline every time.
oidar··on Duskers, the scary command line game, is getting a sequel
Damn windows only - not on mac. I really loved the first one. Hope they port it to mac eventually.
