1. Make it work.
2. Make it not break.
3. Make it fast.
That's it really. Until the performance of something is blocking what you need to do somewhere else leave it the hell alone.
How can you think it's pertinent?
So while you may not be the only one who doesn't want this tech to come about you and anyone else who shares your sentiments are wishing for something that absolutely won't happen. As for your usability concerns, those always come later as the tech matures.
Sorry for the runon but this is a major gripe of mine. Most managers just want it to work and unless it doubles your profit, cuts failures and makes you coffee for when other stuff breaks and you're working overtime to fix it they don't want to change anything.
Futzing around with the operating system calls is the hardest part.
What I've found so far is that it takes a while to get good results like something that looks like its own creation instead of an overlap of pictures. There's no exact way to do this. If you modify existing artwork it works well enough since the source is already somewhat divorced from reality but photos are difficult. When it works it's amazing though.
If your business idea is too big to make without large (seed investment size) amounts of funds then you should pick something else or get a job and slowly build it with your own income.
Suck it up.
Just my 2c.
Lol what? That's stupid. Some people listen to the music that sounds good to them, some people listen to music that brings them and their friends together, some people listen to music for other reasons.
Your analysis bad because you think you can group people so simply. Stop that.
Hopefully the significant fines would keep this at bay. In all honesty kicking the store off the system would be the best way to stop it.
Maybe I'll be enlightened? I don't know. Being completely honest I'm having a hard time getting past fact that the article was written by a woman who could instead get a tech job. My wife is a kernel programmer for goodness' sake. Perhaps I'm failing to see something obvious so it would be nice if someone could show me what's wrong with my line of thinking.
Putting it mildly, with all of the asshats that can barely create CRUD apps calling themselves software engineers and making an amazing salary when compared to their pathetic skills its a wonder the median salary hasn't plummeted like a rock.
I honestly think having someone legally responsible is necessary for proper programming and security practices to be put into place. It works with HIPAA and the real engineering profession. The people going through these classes are no more than weekend woodshop students and the spaghetti they string together will show them to be.

The rental and housing market is disgusting. I wouldn't consider it except for my wife.
Tell as many people as you can after you see for yourself.
edit: As an additional tip, the way I get out of the paralysis is by trying to rock my body as if I'm building up momentum to jump or at least jerk a limb. Once I twitch a limb it feels easy enough to break everything else out. That rocking feeling is probably imaginary so I don't know how transferable the technique is to other people.
Other than that I can only think that you're not properly motivated. I don't know much about clinical depression so this may be obtuse but let's assume you were being tortured; burned, whipped, fingernail removal, whatever. Would you do everything in your power to get out of that situation? Well right now you're comfortable. There are no pressing matters and you have pretty much whatever you need from day to day. That emotional inertia that was there when you began working on your startup isn't there. There are also no new stimuli to spur you back into motion. So the only thing you can do is rest until your comfort level with your progress drops enough for you to get back into gear. I don't know, there's a very good chance I'm projecting from my own past experiences.
The only solution I've found which works for me every day is to get angry. Angry about what other people have done that I haven't done. Angry about what other people have that I don't have. Angry about not using my talents to the fullest - not seeing what I'm capable of doing. Angry about being told no, I can't. My progress is fueled by rage and my heart will probably pop by age 50 but I will get my work done. I will never allow myself to be comfortable.
Good luck, whatever you do.
