obituary_latte··on macOS Free and Open-Source Security Tools by Objective-See
Thanks. Bummer, I figured they probably didn't use the root domain but some amalgamation of letters/number/sub-domains. I have a pi-hole at home which has been working great for 3+ years now, but I mostly run objective-see stuff on my work machine.

Can the same be done with hosts file (block crashlytics/sentry?) for those of us unable to use pi-holes at work?

edit: it looks like it is working, but unknown if there are any negative side-effects at this point.

obituary_latte··on FAA approves unleaded fuel for piston fleet
It is indeed. The video (which I just happened upon yesterday) does a great job of describing his impact on humanity and it was interesting to learn that prop planes were still allowed to use leaded gasoline--I had no idea. Ironic he died by strangulating himself in one of his own inventions.
obituary_latte··on Tell HN: Reddit mandatory login to see sensitive pages
For me this morning I noticed for the first time on iOS Safari it was trying to force me to use the Reddit app to view nsfw content otherwise return to the homepage was the only other option. They're probably a/b testing, but either way, it's an immediate page close for me. As soon as a website starts trying to force me to view their content a certain way, I become 99% less interested. I will just Google whatever it is and find it somewhere else if I want to see it bad enough.

FYI: I think you meant "contagious" rather than "contaminating". The latter means to make something impure whereas the former means more to spread something. :)
obituary_latte··on YaLM-100B: Pretrained language model with 100B parameters
What are some use cases for something like this? I understand it says "generating and processing text", but is it a replacement for OCR? Or something else?

I see it as well. I even see the "subject" of the ban at the top of the page. I agree it's probably something automated that was overturned (although I feel that these AI's are being too heavy-handed, there should have definitely been some human review before taking offline the entirety of the Cornell YT library).
obituary_latte··on Ask HN: I created a news shortening algorithm and am not sure how to utilize it
Is one of these the reddit bot? I've seen it frequently on reddit comments and it always seems to be highly upvoted, so it must do a pretty good job. I want to say it's the autotldr_bot but not sure.
obituary_latte··on Ask HN: How do I stop being used?
This is great advice. Also can help to deflect "so and so computer shop does a good job with that sort of thing" if you don't want the work/don't have time/etc.
obituary_latte··on Ask HN: Web frameworks – which less popular frameworks are you using and why?
Very happy to see the CI is still around and kicking. I was afraid after Ellis Labs that Laravel would take over and that would be it. I agree that the level of abstraction is just about perfect in CI for a brand new noob--Laravel for whatever reason just doesn't quite get there (maybe it's all of the backslashes) IMO.
obituary_latte··on Logitech MX Mechanical Keyboard
Wasn't very easy to find, but here are the differences between the 3 key types:

>Linear switches, colored red, are the smoothest, with no tactile bump and little noise.

>Tactile switches, colored brown, have a little discernible bump and little sound. It would be the one closest to a traditional typing experience you find on our MX Keys keyboards.

>Clicky switches, colored blue, have a discernible bump and sound. They are the loudest of the three switch types.

A couple of these images pretty accurately represent what it feels like visually before a migraine strikes. Especially those with grass between the legs.
obituary_latte··on Ask HN: How do you deal with ownership with investors?
Have an investor pondering this. It's maybe just sounding unusual because of the way I'm asking.

They are conveying concerns about how to transfer/give ownership in the new company because their argument is that it wouldn't be fair to an investor to invest some large sum which then, for instance, I turn around and sell my 2% at a larger valuation due to their investment.

For a demo.

Wasn’t clear from readme on quick blush that there was a live demo.

obituary_latte··on Pan-European Privacy-Preserving Proximity Tracing
Touché on second point, but who forgets their phone these days, really? I haven’t forgotten mine ever that I can remember.
obituary_latte··on Pan-European Privacy-Preserving Proximity Tracing
I wonder if there would be a way to do something like this but using WiFi access points that are available. The phone could track access points as they come into range (don’t need to connect) and time stamps and cross correlate with others. Seems a bit less intrusive and wouldn’t require Bluetooth but obviously there wouldn’t be as much coverage.
