nybsop··on Avast fined $16.5M for 'privacy' software that sold users' browsing data
Why would they be fined? All tech businesses operate like that.
nybsop··on Why the world stopped having sex
The industrial revolution created unusual economic conditions that evened out socioeconomic inequalities. The socioeconomic inequality that existed before then is probably a more nature state for societies to tend towards. Over time the inequality will eventually be restored.
nybsop··on American chestnut tree in Centreville is the 'holy grail' for conservationists
I used to live in a historic property in rural MI built in the 1800s. There was a huge chestnut tree growing on it that was at least 50ft tall and looked like it could've been as old as the house. I don't live near there anymore but I always wondered if it might have been an American chestnut.
nybsop··on Housing shortages are making homeownership unaffordable across the U.S.
It's weird to write an article about the housing crisis without mentioning the artificial scarcity caused by the foreign speculators and domestic monopolists like Blackrock buying up all the houses.
nybsop··on Amazon sales of Deep Learning with Python are counterfeit
Amazon is first and foremost a marketplace for cheap Chinese goods and counterfeits. It strange it's taken this long for people to start picking up on that.
nybsop··on Twitter plans to comply with Musk’s demands for data
Are we pretending it wasn't Musk calling Twitter's 5% bluff to begin with?
nybsop··on Serotonin selectively influences moral judgment and behavior
This study tests judgement but then makes conclusions about behavior when behavior was never actually tested.

Is this science?

nybsop··on Inflation rises to 6.8% year over year
Having the economy crash would just speed up global warming. You can't have clean energy and reduced pollution without investment in new tech.
nybsop··on How do you solve a problem like misinformation?
It's not a technical problem, it's a cultural one. Society's values simply have to be in the right place and it's takes time for a sophisticated culture to evolve.
nybsop··on Gravitational waves should permanently distort space-time
So were talking about magnetic monopoles except with gravity this time?
nybsop··on There is no liberal media bias in which news stories journalists choose to cover
I'm more concerned about political bias in the scientific process at this point.
nybsop··on iNaturalist is a social network of people helping each other learn about nature
One issue that I've noticed with their system is that usually when a person posts an image, they take a random guess at the ID, and then all their friends will dog-pile on agreeing with it. There are so many misidentifications on there and not enough experts to correct it.
nybsop··on Federal Judge Upholds Harvard's Race-Conscious Admissions Process
if society's intuitions began instituting racist rules like this, would everyone have to become racist just to compete?
nybsop··on Why has examine.com disappeared from search results?
because google is following their bottom line. they're getting paid push healthline and webmd to the top.
