nsizx··on Chip shortage: Toyota to cut global production by 40%
That's like 0.1% of people
nsizx··on Apple censors engraving service, report claims
As long as there are filtered words in the US no one can claim the higher moral ground here.
nsizx··on Convert Apple NeuralHash model for CSAM Detection to ONNX
The images are sent for manual verification before you're turned in, so no.
nsizx··on Stop using Zoom, Hamburg’s data protection agency warns state government
What should they use instead, some half assed open source solution subcontracted to the usual cronies of the consulting business?
nsizx··on Mastodon now a non-profit organisation
It is, actually. Once you restrict what others can say there's no freedom of speech anymore. It's like China saying you can't talk about the regime - I'm sure they consider that "basic human decency" as well.
nsizx··on Swiping left on magnetic stripes
Same in restaurants. They hate it when you pay with your card. They love untaxed income and I don't blame them.
nsizx··on Nokia 9000 Communicator was launched 25 years ago
The laws of my country already make it illegal for my mobile provider to take my private data and sell it away.
nsizx··on iOS is worse than Android
Why would you ever want to turn bluetooth off?
nsizx··on Guantánamo survivor on the war on terror’s failure
This was mandated legally by the European Union for videos that are not suitable for minors. (I assume this one contains gore or something like that? I haven't watched it)
nsizx··on Veterans push for medical marijuana in conservative South
I'd rather states legislate themselves any way they want.
nsizx··on Reining in the thundering herd: Getting to 80% CPU utilization with Django
So much this. Practically any other option is better than Python for web development if you're looking for performance.
nsizx··on India is leading IPv6 migration with 61.67% adoption
I play counter strike with a delay of around 10 ms with servers that are hosted hundreds of kilometres away.
nsizx··on India is leading IPv6 migration with 61.67% adoption
I didn't mention NAT at all. Practically all multiplayer games use a central server. It's impossible to know the IP addresses of your peers.
nsizx··on India is leading IPv6 migration with 61.67% adoption
I didn't mention NAT. I'm comparing direct connections between peers with using a centralised server.
nsizx··on India is leading IPv6 migration with 61.67% adoption
Still you are revealing your IP address to the other parties, which will be more than happy to DoS you to force you to disconnect, exploit 0-days in the game networking code to crash your game or get your private info, know where you are located by IP geolocation...

The idea of P2P in competitive videogames strikes me as absolutely insane

nsizx··on California's dry season is turning into a permanent state of being
Europe didn't try to stop them at all.
nsizx··on India is leading IPv6 migration with 61.67% adoption
Letting machines connect directly to each other in any context, and especially in the context of an online game, is a massive security and privacy risk.
nsizx··on India is leading IPv6 migration with 61.67% adoption
In what way does getting your artefacts through ipv4 annoy you?
nsizx··on As cargo shipments boom, ship strikes imperil whales worldwide
Gotta nuke something.
nsizx··on Lenovo Selling Linux Laptops Directly in the US
Nah, it's not. Buy a MacBook.
nsizx··on High heat: Spain clocks prelim record of 47.2 C (116.96 F)
The cost of the infrastructure is not part of the >50% of taxes you pay. It's in the other part. You'd know that if you read the screenshot I posted.

And saying you have the option of using less electricity. Really laughable, sorry. I guess I'll turn off my refrigerator.

nsizx··on High heat: Spain clocks prelim record of 47.2 C (116.96 F)
Over 50% of the electricity bill is taxes.

nsizx··on High heat: Spain clocks prelim record of 47.2 C (116.96 F)
I live very close. Summers here fucking suck. You can't go out from 12 until at least 20.

The socialist government has allowed the price of electricity to soar so high (I think the higher it's been in decades) that many people simply cannot afford to turn on their air conditioners anymore. It really, really sucks.

nsizx··on Where does the plastic in oceans come from?
Everything has to be read in context. This is gravely inconveniencing to the experience of shopping. Sorry I didn't get to work in the salt mines!
nsizx··on Where does the plastic in oceans come from?
Actually yes, since some shops now only have paper bags which are expensive and break just by looking at them. If you forget to bring a bag from home you're in trouble, especially if your groceries are heavy and you're far from home - the bags are guaranteed to break. (This is Europe, so you're walking back, obviously)
nsizx··on Where does the plastic in oceans come from?
And to think that the EU made it mandatory for plastic bags to cost money, gravely inconveniencing every shopper... And my country only amounts to 0.02% of plastic waste in the ocean.
nsizx··on Closing 45% of the open Emacs bugs
That's how we got that stupid bot on GitHub that constantly says "comment here or I'll close this". From time to time I have to waste my time that way. I wonder if this means maintainers want us all day bumping bugs?
nsizx··on Debian 11
I've been doing that since forever with Gentoo. Old kernel and desktop but recent applications. Or the other way around, really.
nsizx··on Volkswagen detects when tests run in a CI server, and makes them pass (2018)
I know this is going to be extremely controversial here, but bear with me. They gave customers more power for the same money. For those of us who don't really care too much about emissions, why should we be mad at Volkswagen? If anything we should be happy.
nsizx··on AWS adds an extra 5.5M IPv4 addresses
That's like saying that private property is worthless because the state can take it from you by force.

Technically that's correct, but if that generally doesn't happen then it's not something we have to worry about.
