noodly··on AT&T, other U.S. advertisers quit Google, YouTube over extremist videos
That's great - the less ads the better ;)

Looks like extremist videos make internet great again.

noodly··on The Glium Library – Safe OpenGL in Rust
I didn't have any problems running examples from tutorial at http://tomaka.github.io/glium/tutorials/01-getting-started.h... on windows

If there are issues you could report them on https://github.com/tomaka/glium/issues

noodly··on OnHub
I'm outside US, so yeah I'm gonna stay far away from Google Fiber as well as from Comcast. Don't worry.
noodly··on OnHub
> To set up your OnHub, you’ll also need:

> Google Account

No, thanks. SpyHub would be more adequate name.

I would reconsider it when I could put my own software on it, that would not require untrusted third-party accounts.

noodly··on A Dutch city is giving money away to test the basic income theory
> Can this really work when applied just partially?

Since this is an experiment I doubt anyone reasonable participating in it would leave their work and live only on basic income. So the result is already determined - basic income doesn't change anything.

IMO to test basic income theory, it should be implemented nation-wide for unspecified period of time - with the ability to cancel it at anytime in case of when negative effects significantly outweight positive ones. When it gets cancelled it failed.

noodly··on 32- and 64-bit ARM Open Hardware Boards
> However, it is unfortunate that there is no open source driver for this platform.

What about this one:

http://malideveloper.arm.com/develop-for-mali/drivers/open-s... ?

noodly··on How to get into an admin account on a Windows computer
This password locking is worthless - most (if not all) BIOSes have backdoor password that allows anyone to bypass password lock.

Here's one of the pages that lists some of them: http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/reference/biosp.htm

noodly··on I don’t know what to do, you guys
Don't say anything - they already chose what's best for them.

They left one of the bullshits camp and hopefully they will be more careful next time before they will try to associate with another.

People learn on mistakes.

noodly··on Intrusive lists in Doom 3
Wayland also uses intrusive circular linked lists - but it doesn't need owner pointer, since that pointer can be computed from pointer to link, and offset of that link in owner structure. I wonder if doom 3 really needed it.
noodly··on Poll: Do you use an ad-blocker?
I don't use ad-blocker - instead I have disabled js on all-sites by default, and have enabled click-to-run-plugin setting (I use chromium).

Thanks to this settings, I don't see ads and don't support shit sites with static content hidden behind js-wall - like blogspot or google groups.

noodly··on 32 bit + 32 bit = 64 bit?
nope, 32 bit + 32 bit = 33 bit ;)
noodly··on Bro pages: like man pages, but with examples only
Good idea, but to really supplement man-pages it should also support sections e.g. "bro 2 write" for getting common-case example how to use write function.
noodly··on Gmail Glitch Is Causing 1000s Of Emails To Be Sent To One Man’s Hotmail Account
No, Poland.
noodly··on Gmail Glitch Is Causing 1000s Of Emails To Be Sent To One Man’s Hotmail Account
and the second one (for "GMail - Google") is:

noodly··on Chinese Whispers in Rust
Do you know if ghc uses segmented stacks ?

I'm wondering, because I implemented chinese whispers in haskell and it seems to be on par with go.

noodly··on #AGDQ2014
Speedrun marathon raising money for Prevent Cancer Foundation.

(Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with them in any way, I just like the idea and the speedruns)

noodly··on Invisible Girlfriend: Finally, a girlfriend your family can believe in.
Tulpa is cheaper, and it's limited only by imagination ;)
noodly··on My first project in Rails – Pastebin for Mathematicians
There still are search engines besides Google. ;)
noodly··on My first project in Rails – Pastebin for Mathematicians
Yes it is, and I hope he can contribute to mathbin as it is more widely used - at least it's official pastebin in ##math channel on freenode.

I don't know if the author of mathbin is still working on it (the message on main page is old), but I think it's worth a shot ;)

noodly··on My first project in Rails – Pastebin for Mathematicians
Theres already one: http://mathbin.net ... and you can also contribute: http://mathbin.net/contribute.html
noodly··on The Anti-Human Consequences of Static Typing
I like the ending: "Please enable JavaScript to view the comments powered by Disqus." ;)

I know that the strengths of racket lie elsewhere, but I wish the performance would be better (at least comparable with sbcl) ;)

As for dynamic vs static typing - I don't care much about human rights, so I prefer static typing :D

Dynamic typing (and laziness) is good when you don't have to care about memory footprint nor performance of code you write e.g. when you're prototyping something.

noodly··on No filter: the meanest thing Paul Graham said to a startup
Yeah, I have the same impression.

I prefer Linus style - he at least gives the reasons why something is bad idea, why he won't accept some patches etc.

I don't know about PG, but the blog post portrays him as someone who likes to use argumentum ad verecundiam.

He could at least provide list of some startups which had same/similar idea that failed, for further studies. And maybe he did, if so, it wasn't PG fault that the author of blog post picked irrelevant part, that says nothing more than "you're wrong, because I say so".

For me no-filter style is Linus style, and I really like it.

Old. 2011/2012.

"On July 12, 2012 OPERA updated their paper by including the new sources of errors in their calculations. They found agreement of neutrino speed with the speed of light." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faster-than-light_neutrino_anom...

noodly··on [dead]
Great, that's real democracy at work there. But, well, how is this HN news ?
noodly··on Who here believes the universe is a computer simulation?
Not me. It boils down to the meaning of universe - if you define it as everything, nothing outside it exists, as there's no outside, in particular there can't be any machine, that simulates the universe, otherwise we wouldn't call it universe. If you define universe as computable subset of everything we have access to, it might be possible to simulate that universe, using computing machine if this machine had access to enough resources outside that universe to hold its state.
noodly··on Why I Am Creating TCombinator
lol, and I will do ACombinator, for agender people, that live outside borders of sexuality and are on a brink of extinction ! :D

or NCombinator for necromancers, that are feeling lonely and misunderstood by modern humans :D

noodly··on Racist Twitter user jailed for 56 days
Orwellian aspects of UK:

1. Extradition of their citizen to US, for creating link aggregator [1][2]

2. Jail for downloading a file [3]

3. Politicaly correct brainwashing in schools [4][5]

4. Sites blocking [6]

5. Jail for posting dumb messages on twitter [7]

These're few things I did remember. When I hear about new case, I don't bookmark it, that's why this list is short.

noodly··on Racist Twitter user jailed for 56 days
It's not surprising, if you think about UK as orwellian state (or wannabe).

"It was not the football world who was praying for [Muamba].... everybody was praying for his life."

What a bullshit - I don't even know who he is and I don't care. I stopped reading here.

noodly··on Find|xargs like a boss (Real Example)
You can achieve this also by using find and its -ok option, instead of -exec, that way find will ask for confirmation before doing anything.
