I LOVED my 11" Air, bought one in 2010, used it daily as my only laptop until 2017, gave it to my son who used it until he graduated in 2019. I replaced it with a 13" MBP which I also really like. MBP died a cat-related falling off the table tragedy recently so I pulled out the Air and was shocked--in 12ish years, my eyes no longer think its tiny screen is reasonably viewable. I wish they'd make another 11" with a retina display, but I guess Apple knows best, I replaced the 13" MBP with another 13" MBP, an M1 this time.
Grape Nuts with a just a touch of honey or piloncillo and allowed to soften for 3-5 minutes before eating them is my breakfast of choice for over 20 years now.
This is where I'm at after years of trying various designs. I went back to shoes I loved in the 90's; Doc Martin 1461 3-eyelet loafers. Classic design, easy to find, and I haven't worn anything since to work in more than a decade now.
Fun fact: The 'smartphone' version of MS Activation still works with XP keys. I put XP on an old ThinkPad a few months back to play some early-2000's games and was able to activate it this way.
In 2016, after a few years with bitcoin as my main obsession, I did something similar. Blocked bitcointalk.com at my router and on my phone using an Adblock program. Took me a few months to lose the urge to look at the drama/bs happening on that site and forget about "crypto." So glad I did.
Hahaha, I do this constantly as an IT guy. You tell me your password, I'm never going to forget it. Shoot, I still remember the IP schemes and addresses from my Novell Netware servers from the job I left over 15 years ago.
I always say, "NO! Don't tell me your password, just type it in."
edit: for clarity's sake; NO, we were not still using Netware in 2007.
I'm still using a 2006ish ThinkPad with a CoreDuo in it and only 2Gb of RAM nearly daily, there is still a lot of computing power out there in some of these oldies if one is willing to try.
Still to this day all of my command lines are dark-navy-blue with white text because of WP 5.1. I go a bit darker than the original, but its been that way for nearly 30 years now.
Thanks for the link--this is amazing. I'm still clinging to hope someone releases a single-board computer of classic Mac architecture. I love my old Macs, but I know eventually they will pass-on and having a 68xxx based SBC that could run System 7 would be awesome.
Put it behind a good firewall and don't run any wide open services on it and you'll be fine. I have Vista, MacOS 10.4, and Windows ME machines all running at home without issues.
I don't know where this idea that governments want to abolish cash comes from. The crypto-world loves to bandy this about, but in reality a HUGE portion of the people still transact constantly in cash. Granted in the US only about 10-15% of people are "cash-only," but 85-90% use cash daily. Cash isn't going anywhere anytime soon, no matter how great Starlink gets, no matter how much Illuminati-conspiracy the Internet dreams up, electronic only money is a pipe dream in the foreseeable future. Maybe in another 50-100 years? Who knows.
I did this a few years ago too. Turned my website in to static content and hosted it on Github Pages. Made all my sub-site project pages in to repos, moved the blog content to Github wiki pages, pointed my domain at it and done and done. I used to spend less than the author, $5 a month for my small VPS, but at the end of the day I realized less can be more and moved it all on to Github.
I will echo this, I was on a 7 and it broke, so I got a regular model 12. The phone itself feels much faster, it loads quicker, the batteries last longer and the screen is much nicer to look at--but some of the apps I use are about the same for opening/loading time. I blame the apps not the phone; some are much better--Pokemon Go for example loads in just a second or two on the 12 but takes 30 or so on the 7.
