The only reason you think he isnt wrong is because you think it wont impact you. I hope one day you find yourself in the same situation, even worse, then I hope you remember this comment.
AMD does not have a PE double of NVIDIA. PE is high because of amortisation of an acquisition. People on hackernews talk a lot but have no idea what they talk about. You might know how to write javascript or some other language but clearly you have not read the earnings reports or financials of AMD and probably alot of the other companies you talk about. So please stop spreading nonsense.
Can we syop giving this guy attention? What a ridiculous post he is nothing but another VC that will
Write anything to support himself, his investments and other VCs and people here who praise him for his ‘insight’ are not helping.
What a ridiculous post that provides no value or insight.
Sure, but have you heard of reducing the attack surface? If you need to have to be able to log in at all times then youre probably at a scale that you have oncall processes and multiple people that can respond to incidents at a moments notice and having pub key auth enabled only makes sense. If you dont need that then youre probably small enough that that enablig only public key auth or putting it behind a vpn suffices. And having something like wireguard is much better than having something like password login enabled.
Anyone who sacrifices security for convenience is asking for trouble.
So this person, as a system administrator, wants to be able to sacrifice security for his personal convenience so he can login from anywhere. Does not sound like a system administrator that actually prioritises the right things. Security, especially if its not your own system, should always come first.
Interesting thanks. I understand that its designed to be anonymous, but I guess it requires faith in Apple not complying to any forceful request from a security authority in the US to not modify it in secret.
Is it just me or this whole find my network capability is a security nightmare? I mean I understand its usefulness but can the [insert authority here] just request apple to tell them where this person is even without cellular coverage? Ive decided to move away from the apple ecosystem either way because of this but it just seems to me to be a surveillance nightmare.
Its idiotic to focus on the last 100 years. Those american innovations you mention came on the shoulders of innovations from the arabs, romans, ottomans and many other cultures/societies before them. Where is the praise for them?
Why are we so focused on who is the best. We seriously need a population reset. People can be so idiotic and self absorbed.
The fact that ppl think AI is now the solution to everything just because we have a good auto complete tech developed goes to show how much our industry needs a reset. The other day I read someones comment about how we should spend 7T dollars to get to AGI. If our industry had a little more sense and standard, half of the ppl in tech wouldnt meet the bar for sensibility. We probably would also be a lot further ahead in areas we need to be and id definitely enjoy working more in tech. Less idiocy, more sensibility
Are you referring to your statement about how russia is innocent and is being targeted for no reason since they never invaded another country and there are many sources for their attempts at sabotage and even assasinations, as braindead? Yes, you are indeed speaking braindead comments. Just re-read what you wrote, and then think about the events of the last 2 years. Try harder comrad.
Actually it would. 2% is a lot in the scheme of things. Every bit counts. And to thin it doesnt or that we need to slash only those things emitting more than X amount is a bit simplistic.
Thinking we should just leave billionaies alone and let them do as they wish is nonsense.
What a silly take. Of course it wouldnt change things in an instant but i twould long term. So if everyone divested from fossil fuel companies, tanking their stock price, and redirected that cash to renewable energy companies, you are saying no impact would happen in the long term? I beg to differ. It would force these companies to actually change their long term strategies so that investors continue to provide cash to them.
Dont worry, Oxfam doesnt need your simplistic views and support based on your own simplistic analysis.
The other thread on HN about the funding waymo received just went to show how little Tesla and their fans know about Autonomy and that it cannot be solved with their hardware stack. They talk a lot but wouldnt dare put their money where there mouth is and sit in the backseat and take a ride across town with supervised FSD (which is an oxymoron). It is such a clear stock pumping scheme by Elon to maintain their Market cap and people fall for it. Im long Uber and Goog on this and when Tesla fanboys finally get struck with reality its going to be hilarious.
Yes I am aware. Whats your point? Waymo is actually doing fully autonomous miles, what are Tesla's doing? An intervention every 13 miles on avg. But Elon says they will be deploying fully autonomous Tesla's in 2025. Yeah ok. Ill be waiting.
Some people (like yourselves) are so delusional that you are capable of considering wasting 7T$ on something that is a glorified autocomplete technology. We kind of a need a reset in the tech industry to get rid of mindsets like yours. AGI is still so far away and when the AI bubble eventually bursts, you will probably still try to convince yourself it still only needs 7T$. The state of people in the tech industry is sad.
Can you stop talking nonsense. There is so much difference between cameras and lidar. Weather and fog being one clear example. It’s unbelievable what people will do to suck up to elon.
These guys are all talk and no action. They wouldn’t dare risk their life in the backseat while fsd is turned on but happy to be a keyboard warrior for Elon. It’s hilarious.
Then jump in the backseat if it’s gobsmacking and just as good as a waymo. Tell it to drive you to the other side of the city while you sleep in the backseat. Put your money where your mouth is.
See the thing is they do and you don’t. If you don’t know and understand why waymo is far ahead of elons lies and will never catch up with its current tech direction and strategy for supervised fsd (which is an oxymoron) then you should only be disappointed in yourself.
If you’re so confident of the tech go jump in the back of a Tesla and let it drive you 100kms. Let’s see if you live to tell the tale. I’m happy to also do the same but in a waymo.
The fact that you don’t know the difference in capabilities between cameras and LiDAR means you shouldn’t really be commenting. LiDAR allows you to also ‘see’ things in conditions where weather is bad visibility is limited. Cameras cannot allow you to do this.
Going through this thread, it is mind blowing how people let their fanboyism for others talk nonsense. So many Elon lovers here. Can all those Elon lovers just jump in the backseat of a Tesla and turn on FSD (which is an oxymoron) and jump on a high way or something? The world would be a better place. I can’t wait to see their faces and a the drivel they will come up with next year when Elon announces delays and other bull**t fit why he can’t launch what he promised. It’s going to be hilarious.
I know the author professionally and I can assure you he is not a competent as a Manager and his blog is purely money driven nonsense. He didn’t even work on some the things he claims to be an expert on. The people who write these types of articles are the ones you should expect the least from. The good leaders are the ones who are generally silent and have no desire to show off their talent and write articles.
Paul graham is nothing but another corporate shill who has ruined the lives of others to benefit a few. Why does our industry keep following advice from people like this? Stop putting this guy on a pedestal. Manager mode, founder mode blah blah blah. Seriously. Next year he will write something else contradicting this point of view. Just read his essays. It’s all nonsense and we end up supporting it. Stop making Silicon Valley people some god like person to follow. It’s ridiculous.
Any sensible freelancer will have an hourly rate nearly double that of a fulltime employee for obvious reasons. Please stop telling him just to hire a bunch of dev freelancers. Projects like this require UX and business domain understanding. Devs are not going to be doing that. This thread is full of amateurs parading as experienced CTOs.
