nkg··on SlutCon
Okay, I am scared.
nkg··on SlutCon
It felt real and, for a moment, I was worried that it was journalism and not fiction.
nkg··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Yup, we are being force-fed the large SUVs and the over-engineered computer-on-4-wheels.
nkg··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
I think the concept is cool, but I tried clicking on stuff I'm familiar with, and I don't get the circles thing.

For example, the French communist party (PCF) has Jacques Chirac in its first circle. He has briefly been in this party, but he mostly remembered as right-wing.

Also the Fiorentina football club, should have its hall of fame striker Gabriel Batistuta in its first circle -he has a statue- while he appears in the outer circle.

nkg··on 'Old Person Smell'
I get the intent, but that's a brutal thing to say.
nkg··on Damn fine tiny cafe
I did not know about Rolife. Just found the perfect birthday gift for my daughter!
nkg··on Hacking with Claude on a $27 smart watch
Commenting so I can find this later
nkg··on Taxi drivers rarely die of Alzheimer's
The dumbing down has started way before llms, way before social media. I never thought I would miss the TV and magazines era.
nkg··on Why Estonians invite strangers into their back gardens each summer
"It's quite traditional to help foreign visitors on Hiiumaa because back then it meant they were here because of [a] shipwreck or something like that, and they needed help."

It's crazy that your 1st thought seeing a stranger in your village is that he might be lost or distressed.

nkg··on Karpathy’s Pelican
I am amazed by Karpathy's writing. He can express complicated thoughts on these topics in a way that makes you feel you would have come to the same conclusion :)
nkg··on Severance
I fell for it!
nkg··on UEFA and its national associations will not participate in FIFA competitions
Oh boy, how could I forget about the Iranian team, and the other players/referees/staff that were rejected or stuck at the airport for hours ? It was worse than a sh-t show actually.
nkg··on UEFA and its national associations will not participate in FIFA competitions
First, it was a new formula of the tournament with more teams which explains the headlines about a someone setting a new record every 2 days.

Second, the hydration (ads!) breaks were clearly used to tweak some tactics, player positionning, etc, making it another half-time. It's a strategic opportunity. Why not introduce a 2 min drill, then ? - yuck- That's not football.

Third, I won't talk about that specific red card or that penalty kick, but the fact that players and staff complained so much about the refereeing issues hurts the trust we can have into the game as a whole.

And that 27 min half-time... Seriously ?!

nkg··on UEFA and its national associations will not participate in FIFA competitions
I'm so happy to see they care enough to take a stand. The last World Cup was a sh-t show. I expect the LA olympics to be no better.
nkg··on No-One Escapes the Permanent Underclass
So, the amish, the rastafarians and the buddhists monks were right ?
nkg··on Noam Shazeer Joins OpenAI
That was hilarious and sad.
nkg··on India's surprise baby bust
It takes a village.
nkg··on Retro-Tech Parenting
I went the same route. I have bought stuff from the 2000s for my 10yo girl: pink plastic digital camera, mp3 player, a desktop PC in the middle of the living room.

Btw, do you know any website where we can legally download mp3 ?

nkg··on VoidZero Is Joining Cloudflare

nkg··on Spotify Is Down
Happy to know it's not about our sh*tty office connection.
nkg··on Talking to strangers at the gym
I live in a small town and I have noticed that I just have be outside and look available. I may be gardening, washing my car or just hanging, and people will randomly stop to start conversations, or just say "hey". That reminds me of our grandparents and how they used to just sit on the front porch and someone would see them, start chatting, and maybe come in and have tea. We've lost those moments of availability.
nkg··on Claude.ai unavailable and elevated errors on the API
I was using VS Code when it happened. I said "why not try Copilot?", and guess what? All LLM are not equals :)
nkg··on Ask HN: What did you find out or explore today?
Not today, but the day before I launched my 2nd attempt at making chocolate from cocoa pods. The 1st time, the fermentation failed and I just got rotten seeds in a pot.
nkg··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (January 2026)
I am building a few catalog workflows in n8n in order to synchronize our ERP data with Akeneo. I know it looks incredibly boring but as I progress I have to get in touch with many departments, and it raises questions about how we manage data within the company. The people I expected to be the most reactionary about it - after all I am sticking my nose into their business - are actually the most helpful because they see an opportunity to make some tasks less painful.
nkg··on Ask HN: 500 citation MSc CS, stuck in a low-trust region. How to move forward?
It resonates with me. I live in a small country (luckily an European one) where investments do not flow into tech. I have talked with many of my fellow countrymen that feel the same. Maybe we will never reach our full potential (professionally) by working here. Remote work is part of the solution for now, but it remains rare and requires a trust signal.

My only suggestion is to keep pushing until you make it.

nkg··on Ask HN: What skills do you want to develop or improve in 2026?
It will get better. They grow up.

nkg··on Ask HN: What skills do you want to develop or improve in 2026?
Drawing! I always loved pencil drawing, but it is an activity I had to put aside because it's time-consuming and we have a 3 yo at home that is also very time-consuming. After years of not doing it, I feel I lack the meditative part of it.

I am evaluating drawing tablets, if you have any recommendation. I am thinking about the Huion Kamvas 13.

nkg··on Ask HN: What's a Purchase You Regret?
I regret buying an okay-ish car. I should have bought a cheap rubbish car, or paid the price for a good car. After 3 years of owning it, I'm stuck paying and repairing a car I want to dump.
nkg··on N8n added native persistent storage with DataTables
I already felt the need to persist data between different nodes and workflows, so I made a bespoke API with dedicated endpoints that perform CRUD tasks (Yes, it defeats the purpose of a no-code platform but I can code, so...). I have to say I love N8n so far, it is a great productivity tool.
