nimvlaj30··on Graphic Designers Have Always Loved Minimalism. But at What Cost?
An article appeared for me, but the navigation bar took up 1/3-1/4 of the screen, which made it hard to read.
nimvlaj30··on Tell HN: Billionaires have to suffer same web as us
No they don't. Being a billionaire means you have an assistant to organise flights, book appointments, call business contacts. A billionaire doesn't ever need to look at the internet, beyond email, news, and text messages.
nimvlaj30··on Ask HN: Why can't kindles “nest” data structures?
I would say you're barking up the wrong tree. There is no technical reason a Kindle can't nest directories on their UI. What is the business case for adding this feature?

The majority of people with a Kindle aren't tech savvy; obfuscating their existing library may influence them to prefer purchasing new ebooks to reading what is already in their library.

nimvlaj30··on Elon Musk’s anti-union tweet from 2018 must be deleted: U.S. labor board
This is the sort of reply I expect from the more popular subreddits on Reddit, and not HN. I recommend you check out the community guidelines:

nimvlaj30··on A Minimal Email Client
Is this even possible in Big Sur?
nimvlaj30··on The American Press Is Destroying Itself
Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has been rightly critical of our government, and has been hit with pay cut after pay cut.
nimvlaj30··on The Decline of Usability
Old is much better. Even then it's not perfect. The goddamn sidebar keeps taking up 80% of the screen on my vertical monitor or portrait phone.
nimvlaj30··on Ask HN: What are you thankful for?
It really helped me through a pretty dark period in my life. I had an existential crisis straight out of university.

I think there's value in it as a drug. I thought very creatively while on it, and wrote down a lot of notes for my fiction writing.

The downside for me was that it made it very difficult to motivate myself to exercise and improve my life. I stopped and was going to the gym 3* a week shortly after.

I haven't smoked in over a year, and will probably only do it on special occasions or with friends, if at all.

It's a wonderful drug for sharing experiences, thinking creatively, or getting outside of a rut in your thinking.

But it is not nearly as harmless as people say it is, and I'm glad I've given it up.

nimvlaj30··on Roll Your Own Synced iOS and Mac OS Diary Using Bash and Siri Shortcuts
I am the author of the post. I hope it's clear what I'm trying to achieve here (a plaintext file that can be contributed to from both terminal and iOS Shortcuts).

Please let me know if you have any suggestions :)

nimvlaj30··on Ask HN: What are you thankful for?
I am thankful that after being addicted to weed for over a year, I got my shit together. I started weightlifting 3* a week, have gotten myself into a postgrad programme, and have been steadily losing weight. I have also recently started writing every day.

I'm a much better person now, and have mostly kicked the depression and anxiety (even though they show up sometimes).

nimvlaj30··on Show HN: Notimeforbooks.com – Read a book, one page at a time, in your inbox
Website does not work with JS enabled.
nimvlaj30··on Link between inflammation and mental sluggishness shown in new study
I would try intermittent fasting for a while. If you feel better, it means it could be exacerbated by something you're eating. Then it's a just a process of elimination.
nimvlaj30··on “Is your startup idea taken?” and why we love X for Y startups
I know this isn't an option for everyone, but I've been loving browsing the internet with Javascript off on Safari.

I also have Firefox with Javascript turned on, in case I need to browse a website I trust with Javascript.

nimvlaj30··on Show HN: Simple command line note taking tool
Amazing. You've inspired me to get back into learning Bash. I love how simple it is.
nimvlaj30··on Minimal Viable Programs (2014)
This is the real lesson. Programmers prefer simple, atomic programs that are short and digestible.

Most other users need safety restraints such as a GUI. Doesn't stop you from using minimum viable product as a philosophy.

nimvlaj30··on Build Your Own X
I read your article, and it's about reasoning in regard to design requirements. I'm curious to hear what you have to say. Would you please provide some explanation as to why programmers should understand building blocks?
