nightshift1··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
I wonder if they mentioned to those models what was the original prompt.
nightshift1··on Do birds have accents? the regional differences in birdsong
Also interesting: https://gizmodo.com/a-viral-new-bird-song-in-canada-is-causi...

White-throated sparrows across Canada are rapidly replacing their classic three-note song ending with a new two-note version, which originated in British Columbia and has spread eastward over the past two decades.

nightshift1··on Introducing System One Models and Jev
The whole page reads like it was vibe-written by an AI. If I'd built something as disruptive as this claims to be, I'd have spent at least fifteen minutes writing the announcement myself. Every time I see 'we' in an announcement like this, I picture one guy alone in his basement.
nightshift1··on Monitors for Work
I think that providing modern monitors that make sense is probably the easiest way to please employees. No matter how excellent the salary is, if they are stuck working on old, small, blurry, faded screens, they'll be unhappy. It also gives a bad impression of the company as a whole. I did L1 tech support a long time ago, and people were overwhelmingly happy to see me coming to replace their old CRTs with LCDs.
nightshift1··on Timeline of the OpenAI accidental attack against Hugging Face
The slide at 14:06 say:

By june 11: Highly persistent experimental, internal-only model begins training.

I am not sure what that means. Are they preserving notes/memories and context between runs?

nightshift1··on Responding to the next frontier of critical cyber capabilities
Maybe they are doing it on purpose to demonstrate what it looks like when untrustworthy parties have access to frontier llm and that its development should be regulated to protect all of us. /tinfoil
nightshift1··on Changes at Google DeepMind: Demis Hassabis from CEO to Chair, Jeff Dean departs
It ought to be extremely easy now to use LLMs to transpile cobol and do the necessary reverse engineering to migrate off mainframes and aix servers. I think IBM will lose many customers.
nightshift1··on Karpathy’s Pelican
but are you willing to spend the time or tokens to build it again for yourself ?
nightshift1··on I flagged two research papers for fake authors and both were accepted as orals
The Orville is excellent. I am a fan. Here is another show/episode that is very similar and relevant here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nosedive_(Black_Mirror)
nightshift1··on Analysis of Opus 5's 'Contrition'
Interesting. I will try some of of those instructions but I don't mind much about the tics.

My actual complaint: end-of-turn summaries that are undecipherable unless you watched the session closely. Both Opus and Fable regularly ends hours of work with status updates phrased in crystal clear terms like:

  "**V2** debug-helper gate (R4d) | Medium-risk | Gate on `?debug=1` URL param at 3 fixture sites — **not** a localStorage flag (`browser_page` clears it every test). 284 debug-API calls ride the fixture, so R4d goes last+alone"
nightshift1··on What's the deal with all the random weekly quota resets for agents lately?
I think it is because the plans are crazy expensive. when you pay 200-300$/month for an online subscription, its normal to want to extract as much value as possible.
nightshift1··on Asahi Linux 7.1 Progress Report
This project is impressive but I wonder if those efforts would not have been better spent on an open platform that actually respects its users and that is less likely to kill the whole project on a whim. It seems like building a house on someone's else property.
nightshift1··on Identity verification on Claude
When i tried to upgrade from 5x to 20x a few months ago, they froze my account until i sent them a full 3d scan of my face and a photo of my id. The only way i could deny was to cancel my account. So this is nothing new for them.
nightshift1··on Cell-based architecture for resilient payment systems
All i can see is a giant single point of failure called the Global Transaction Router.
nightshift1··on Is Meta destroying its engineering organization?
Interesting submission on that topic : How Google Maps allocates survival across London's restaurants https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46203343
nightshift1··on Transformers Are Inherently Succinct
i noticed that with 4.7. i tried to add instructions in claude.md to unpack meaning when communicating to me but it did not work.

nightshift1··on News outlets are limiting the Internet Archive’s access to their journalism
Good idea, but only if the article can't be edited during that week. What's worth preserving is the version the audience actually read. Articles routinely get ninja-edited after publication, sometimes repeatedly. Changelogs should be mandatory but they're useless if we can't keep them honest.
nightshift1··on ASML became the chokepoint for cutting-edge chips
They did. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/business/2025/12/18/tech/china-...
nightshift1··on Claude Opus 4.7
I noticed the same thing. Every Claude release thread is full of comments saying that it's terrible and why they switched to Codex. And vice versa for Codex release threads. At least its not as bad as /r/localllama that is 90% bots now.
nightshift1··on Malus – Clean Room as a Service
This rewrite of GNU coreutils to rust comes to mind https://github.com/uutils/coreutils
nightshift1··on Statement on the comments from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth

nightshift1··on [dead]
Its perfectly fine. Go away.
nightshift1··on GPT 5.3 Codex wiped my F: drive with a single character escaping bug
CC is really good at finding ways to work around denied permissions. The only safe solution is some kind of vm.
nightshift1··on Show HN: If you lose your memory, how to regain access to your computer?
Safe deposit boxes are not safe. There are many stories of peoples stuff going missing.

nightshift1··on Time Machine-style backups with rsync (2018)
Seems similar to https://rsnapshot.org/
nightshift1··on Don't click on the LastPass 'create backup' link – it's a scam
I am surprised that this company still exists and that they have actual users after all the major security incidents.
nightshift1··on Claude's new constitution
It says: This constitution is written for our mainline, general-access Claude models. We have some models built for specialized uses that don’t fully fit this constitution; as we continue to develop products for specialized use cases, we will continue to evaluate how to best ensure our models meet the core objectives outlined in this constitution.

I wonder what those specialized use cases are and why they need a different set of values. I guess the simplest answer is they mean small fim and tools models but who knows ?
