nif2ee··on WireGuard is now in Linus' tree
How does this thing even work? do they host the gateways for you and do the authentication at the start of VPN sessions and generate the wireguard keys for you? so you simply need to connect your networks hosting services and such to their gateways?
nif2ee··on Leaked documents expose Avast antivirus subsidiary selling web browsing data
Most B2C privacy/security based companies are either snake oil or outright scams.
nif2ee··on del.icio.us is now an unconfigured Apache install
The https address surprisingly isn't https://del.icio.us/
nif2ee··on Report on the Bezos Phone Hack [pdf]
if this is true and MBS wants to silence Jeff Bezos just because his owned paper attacks him, mind you this paper just like every other major western paper attacks him day and night since the murder of the Saudi "journalist" so silencing one paper won't make any difference anyway. Why would he send this infected video which is probably linked to a backdoor only a very few have knowledge about, from his own Whatsapp account not from some associate or a friend of Bezos who is in his contacts? This whole story doesn't seem logical to me.
nif2ee··on Stocks Up $1T Since October
Thanks to the Fed and quantitative easing, many entrepreneurs and investors who became super rich thanks to this scheme are now spamming my youtube and twitter homepage about their wisdom in everything in life from artificial intelligence to history just because they think they are geniuses and entitled to teaching the poor souls with mental deficiencies (everyone who isn't worth at least tens of millions of dollars) about everything and anything.

It's amazing that once you become super rich, everything you say becomes a wisdom quote unless you're Trump of course.

nif2ee··on What can you use instead of Google and Facebook?
How many organized shilling posts for DDG are enough, @dang? isn't 3 in the top page within 72 hours enough for you or you people too get paid for it?

I am really not surprised that this journalist, just like most who get paid under the table, shilled for 3 of the most disgusting tabloid-tier tech companies of our time with the most aggressive marketing and astroturfing techniques in one article.

nif2ee··on Every Google result now looks like an ad
but it's the truth and if you're seriously unaware of it you have a big problem; DDG, Brave Inc and some other companies have been doing this on a regular basis for a long time. You guys should start charging them and at least make some money off allowing these organized shilling parties.
nif2ee··on Jeff Bezos's phone 'hacked by Saudi crown prince'
>Jeff Bezos chatting with Mohammed bin Salman on WhatsApp

Not sure whether this is a yet another fake story sponsored by the Qataris, who infiltrated the liberal western media with their isalmist and ultra left minions all over in the name of diversity, since their rift with the Saudis in mid 2017 or the richest man on Earth is actually retarded enough to chat with a head of state like Saudi Arabia on fucking WhatsApp

nif2ee··on Every Google result now looks like an ad
Reminder that almost every Google search bashing thread on HN is most probably injected by DDG. They have been doing that for years and years and it proved to be very effective. It's a amazing that such a mediocre search engine like DDG can be popular only based on rants and accusations on the big guy. But it seems really to be a very effective marketing technique.
nif2ee··on Stack Exchange is not interested in cooperating with the community, is it?
Stack Exchange is interested only in making big money since they know they missed out for a very long time and they think they deserve to be a billion+ dollar company just like many of the top 100 websites, if the community is interested in making money for Stack Exchange so that's fine otherwise SE is okay with becoming Quora for developers thanks to their influence in search engines and making money by brute force.
nif2ee··on Mailchimp has terminated Stefan Molyneux’s account
Cheap-shots like this are the only cheap thing you can get from a company like Mailchimp
nif2ee··on Show HN: Werbot – a product for easy audit and control of access to servers
>Symantec, CyberArk or CheckPoint

These are huge and public companies and are lots of regulation and scrutiny by the government and investors and are a big target for hackers and adversary governments and that's why they spend a fortune to keep their reputation clean. I don't think you should compare yourself to them.

>VPN or Cloudflare's Access solutions you are talking about, are designed for other purposes

What other purposes? please enlighten me

>The most important thing is that you don't need to install any additional software on the client machine or server

so your product works by authenticating uses via your webapp's SSO for example and then the client has to manually download the private keys and certificates and use them with the ssh command?

nif2ee··on Show HN: Write a private diary using good old email
It's pointless to say the least to claim "Private and secure" without at least having client-side AEAD of some sort.
nif2ee··on Show HN: Werbot – a product for easy audit and control of access to servers
Why would I pay $12,000/year for a self-hosted closed source SSH proxy+SSO while Teleport, a FOSS and battle tested alternative exists? Also something like Pritunl can does the same functionality along with a zillion more features while being more scalable and supports any protocol since it's a real VPN while only paying $50/month.

UPDATE: It seems also that Cloudflare's Access supports SSH and SSO.

nif2ee··on Show HN: Werbot – a product for easy audit and control of access to servers
It's very hard to trust some random new company with your comany's servers. Even if we trust YOU, a single bug that leads to leak your certificate, the keys or the stored sessions (which are literally everything! they are literally the company itself) would be a disaster for all your customers, especially when the whole product is managed and closed source. Also Gravitational's Teleport does the same thing and it's FOSS. It's just hard for me to see a serious business that would trust you and proxy their entire SSH sessions through you just for the sake of authentication/authorization while there are many alternative FOSS and more trusted alternatives.
nif2ee··on Tesla Surges Above $500, Leaving Analyst Targets in the Dust
As is the case with Apple, Tesla is a cult and obviously Musk learned from Steve Jobs that cults beat facts, cults create empires and make bad as equal as good and sane people can do nothing about it. That's how the great empires and religions were built in the old days and that's how "great" companies are being built today.
nif2ee··on How I make $400/month with my technical eBook
>It’s not just about the money as I said in the tweet

probably web scraping, along with SEO, is one of the most shameless niches in tech and is crammed with people with nearly zero tech skills and are only for the money. Maybe for your case you just happened to love web scraping, but this niche itself is the lowest of low. Thankfully Cloudflare and the low barrier to entry/increase of supply make sure that no one can make much more than he should (which is $0 imho).

nif2ee··on How I make $400/month with my technical eBook
"How I now make 2x/month by posting a thread about how I make x/month"
nif2ee··on Open Source, SaaS and Monetization
>I remember too many cases of people that tried to do dual licensing with code and ended up regretting it after ownership was transferred or they had a fall out with other partners.

Can somebody here elaborate on this?

nif2ee··on Open Source, SaaS and Monetization
but that's exactly what they do, many people here posted SHOW HN threads for github for-profit projects that use clauses in licenses or licenses like BSL, SSPL and the posts turned into harassment party because of the "hijacking" of pure open source according to them.
nif2ee··on Open Source, SaaS and Monetization
It is kinda ironic that most people zealously arguing for the "pure" open source definition and harrassing authors here on HN or even on Github issues are the ones who work for FAANG-tier companies and making 6 figures contributing little to nothing to open source projects or getting paid for their contributions. There must be a way to protect authors and small startups from simply being ripped-off by any lazy for-profit entity. I don't think that 99.99999% of users would mind to use an application that is identical with MIT, Apache, GPL plus a clause that protects the author or company that created it.
nif2ee··on Shopify CEO says long hours aren't necessary for success
I get your argument and I appreciate it. But the nature of those low hanging fruit are more complicated today. For example, you can't just recreate Twitter, Facebook, Reddit today in your home with a couple of friends with no solid experience. You similarly can't start most successful SaaS ideas that were started in 2010-2014. Most successful YouTubers started their channels around 2008-2011. This was a time when you could make a very successful venture relying on the viral marketing by social media and Google search. Nowadays, this is over. You can go and try this same hippie way for starting a small business today but your chances of success are 1000x lower. The internet is much bigger, and it's much more centralized and concentrated and the competition is much more harsher.
nif2ee··on Shopify CEO says long hours aren't necessary for success
let's see what happens if he starts today all over again. He forgot to mention the most important thing, that he was at the right place and right time. No matter how you come up with a 1000x better Shopify today, you most probably won't go anywhere. Many clunky business projects that were started with the rise of social media (around 2004-2013) made their owners kings ONLY because they were at the right place and time. The free ride is over. His argument is mostly bullshit for anyone starting today, the internet is much more centralized and you can't go viral unless you spend a fortune assuming having a superior product. It's a billion times harder today to succeed with a great product today than with a barely average one 15 years ago.
nif2ee··on Turkey's block on Wikipedia violates rights, court rules
> Erdogan legitimately wins his elections

It's very easy to win elections when you kill, imprison and lay off _hundreds of thousands_ of your "enemies" and have total control on the press and the judicial system. Westerners nowadays forget that fear is a very, very effective political tool. In fact it's the most effective political tool by far. In Turkey, thousands of people were imprisoned based on just DNS queries that are being logged by intelligence services. Fucking DNS queries! even if your application/website connected to a "terrorist affiliated" server once via some ad or anything you get arrested. Turkey has, and now shamelessly supporting the most dangerous Islamic groups on Earth. How coincidental that after the alleged pathetic coup attempt, within days, around 100,000 people were arrested, how can you arrest a fucking hundred thousand people if these people aren't on lists a priori?. If hundreds of thousands plotted a fucking coup, how on earth could it fail? How can it even be a coup when hundreds of thousands plot it?. This is like Kirov assassination v2.0. It's not even a secret that Erdogan moving extremely dangerous ISIS members in civilian planes from Syria to Libya to destabilize Egypt. The US used an Iraq base and even asked the Russians to clear the way on the Syrian field for the planes that were going to kill Al Baghdadi in northern Syria despite having a big base in southern Turkey that can do the mission in minutes. It isn't hard to get that even the US army and CIA don't trust Erdogan having his men spying on the base and warning AL Baghdadi within seconds

Every day, every fucking day, you open the news and see Erdogan "threatening" somebody, some country, some group, not just in Turkey but everywhere. Since he has been doing this for more than a decade now and nobody stood up to him. He's been seen now as the Caliph by islamists and extremists all over the world. It's the romantic reflection in the islamic legacy of the strong muslim ruler humiliating the infidels. The holy grail for every extremist!

nif2ee··on Brave Isn't Bad
Brave is not even a browser, it is just a rebranded Chrome that advertises itself to users as a "browser" while its main publicity is nothing but an unhinged attack on the very same company that built the browser it's rebranding. On the other hand Firefox IS A browser and Mozilla is a non-profit.
nif2ee··on Brave Isn't Bad
If I am going to use Chrome/Chromium then I am just going to use Chrome/Chromium and spend 10 more seconds and install ublock. No reason to use a themed Chromium by a company that literally announces itself to investors (among which Peter Thiel who has obviously personal issues with Google founders) as an advertising platform with a cryptoscam if it didn't work.
nif2ee··on Protobuffers Are Wrong
Doesn't Rust's Serde can simply solve the forward and backward compatibility issue independent of the serialization format with ignoring non-exising members in serialized types and setting defaults for the other way around?
nif2ee··on People who tend to be optimistic are likelier to live to 85 or more: study
Seriously Who the hell do and fund these "being optimist makes you live longer, eating healthy makes you longer, water found to be wet" researches? Is this because of the so much supply in graduate schools or researchers/schools want to see their names in the press?
nif2ee··on Apple's products are getting harder to use, ignore principles of design (2015)
Apple is just a cult. if Steve Jobs was great at anything, he knew how to create a cult and then the money will follow. It's not about engineering, design, users or any bullshit you see in the ads, press, your annoying friends shilling, etc.. . It's pointless to argue with cult believers. Cults are only removed with new cults.
nif2ee··on Why we Forked Firefox and Not Chromium
I've also been noticing that. But tbh they are not alone. The list of companies and startups exploiting HN is long.
