nickcox··on WeWork sells Meetup
Seriously? What possible reason could there be for limiting this to Californians?
nickcox··on Windows Terminal Preview v0.10 Release
Yes! Don't ever change, Windows Terminal.
nickcox··on One way to fight a coronavirus recession: $1k for every American
> income inequality is not a uniquely American problem

That's true but there are only a handful of countries doing worse: https://data.oecd.org/inequality/income-inequality.htm

nickcox··on NBA suspends season over the coronavirus after player tests positive
Like rabies?
nickcox··on PowerShell 7.0
Not sure that's a fair comparison though. `du` isn't built in to bash, afaik; you could just as easily type `du -sh <folder>` in PowerShell.

If you /did/ need to do it without `du` then it would be something like:

`dir <folder> -Recurse | measure -Property Length -Sum`

which is easier to remember than whatever the equivalent bash would be, imo.

Not sure it's on the GP to provide a source but here's one:

nickcox··on JetBrains to reimagine IntelliJ as text editor, add machine learning
Yeah, it’s just objectively better imo and it addresses GPs wish for a 64bit process.
nickcox··on Asciinema – Record and share terminal sessions
Not sure it's double the effort. Once you've written the textual version, you pretty much only need to copy and paste it into a terminal to produce the asciicast version.

That's how I did the animations for this Powershell tool.

nickcox··on Asciinema – Record and share terminal sessions
I love this tool.

For people who want to render asciicast to SVG, I can highly recommend svg-term-cli[1].

It does look cool. Is anyone out there using it in production?
nickcox··on Zappos 2012 data breach settlement
I honestly don't think the general public cares enough for reputational effects to be particularly important.

Can you think of an incident, however heinous, that materially impacted a company's bottom line?

nickcox··on Broken
I think they meant to say, ‘organise’.
nickcox··on Show HN: Cascadia Code, a Font for Windows Terminal and VSCode
> alias

Right. And it ships with sensible aliases for pretty much everything right out of the box as well as excellent completion.

Don't really get the 'too verbose' argument at all.

nickcox··on Introducing nushell
Not out of the box but I wrote a module[0] that gives you `cd+ 11` (and `dirs -v`).

I'm quite interested in this library. Have you used it? What did you like and not like about it?

nickcox··on Australian parliament passes encryption laws unamended
The pollies seem to think so. I don't know anyone who admitted voting for Abbott in 2013 either but a lot of people obviously did.
nickcox··on Australian parliament passes encryption laws unamended
It is an absolute national shame. MSF recently likened the mental health of the people on Nauru to victims of torture.[1]

The most disturbing aspect is the strong bipartisan and public support for the ongoing abuse. Every Australian should wake up in the morning, take a long hard look in the mirror and ask themselves if they're proud of what they've become.

Hard to see them ever supporting PowerShell 5.0 given that it doesn't run on Linux.

The article doesn't seem to touch on the motivation for the attack. (Perhaps it's taken to be obvious.) Why would the British government want to do this?
