newAccount2025··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
My nissan has a one-click opt-out… but like… every… single… trip. :(
newAccount2025··on US Revokes Limits on Power Plants' Climate Pollution
It’s expensive? We were quoted 60k last year. Maybe a scammy company but that’s a lot up front.
newAccount2025··on Claude Code now reads AGENTS.md if there is no Claude.md
It’s not just a windows problem. File systems are an absolute disaster across all platforms. David Wheeler has a lovely article on the topic: https://dwheeler.com/essays/fixing-unix-linux-filenames.html
newAccount2025··on Astra for Law
Does the human find enough bugs that they stay on guard, or just rubber stamp everything without really looking at it? It’s hard to stay vigilant when stuff looks plausible.
newAccount2025··on Suspected sabotage causes major Netherlands rail disruption
NATO is certainly weaker with the USA having lost her mind. But Russia seems to have gotten herself into a total quagmire in Ukraine and she is bleeding badly with no end in sight. Nobody is winning here.
newAccount2025··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
I like this mindset and I’m going to steal this quote. Everyone is figuring things on their own skill journey with their hobbies and careers. Wherever you are, you can learn more and help people to come with you.
newAccount2025··on An Alien Mind
Hrmn. Maybe you’re about to lose everything you have anyway, you’re ticked off about it, and you don’t value any life besides your own. Like, say, a total narcissist nearing end of life/reign.
newAccount2025··on Formalizing Fermat's Last Theorem
It’s common for formal proof efforts about software and hardware to involve thousands to tens of thousands of small lemmas.

13M lines does seem extreme and there is probably a lot of inefficiency given the way the proof was developed. Cutting it down is probably a long road, but is also a very well defined problem that AIs can probably just go do with enough time and budget now.

newAccount2025··on Record-High 89% in U.S. Say Government Corruption Widespread
Nah. At the end of the day it’s candidate A vs. B. Once they’re all corrupt you still have to decide between them and pick the lesser evil as you see it. They’re creatures of ambition and incentives, and the corruption is a feature of the system. It sucks but what can you do but vote for the corrupt dems or the corrupt republicans?
newAccount2025··on Tim Cook Sold Out Steve Jobs (2025)
2025-09 would be helpful context for the article link
newAccount2025··on What Happens When the Cost of Intelligence Drops 100x
Haha. Yeah. I somehow find Claude Code’s utter lack of time reasoning to be very fun. “The work we did two weeks ago…” oh friend that was this morning…
newAccount2025··on What Happens When the Cost of Intelligence Drops 100x
I’m loving small models. The gemma4 26/31b models have been deeply impressive on weird prose analysis tasks that I am working on. Nova-micro is really stupid but is extremely fast when it’s smart enough to do something. I’m trying to be disciplined about able to evaluate quality vs cost everywhere for real systems built on this stuff. I probably need to get off Bedrock because it’s missing a lot of other little models that might be good competitors.
newAccount2025··on Claude Code May–August 2026 weekly limits promotion
Similar experience here. I had raised my cap to $20 because they had given me promo credit. The credit expired without me using it and I didn’t notice.

One fine day I was like, oh my weekly quota resets soon, I will kick off an expensive bug hunt. It launched parallel things and burned $10 in like a moment.

It’s scary. I turned off extra usage after that.

newAccount2025··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
100%. It is crazy that the default response to everything is act then explain. It starts writing code or running commands and I’m just like my dude wtf are you trying to do, can you just clue me in first.
newAccount2025··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
I had pretty good luck recently by giving it a writing guide about word choice, sentence structure, paragraph structure, and overall doc structure. I basically ask it to read the guide and revise a couple of times before I engage with its writing. Ymmv.
newAccount2025··on Meta Ran Ads That Contained AI-Generated Child Sexual Abuse Imagery
Surely there is no need to review every ad. Coke and Apple and whatnot are not going to be doing this. New companies or companies with a history of complaints can face extra scrutiny. With AI capabilities so far along you have tier 1 ready for free…
newAccount2025··on There Will Come Soft Rains (1950) [pdf]
Is it? There are lots of wonderful US Christians who believe in kindness and compassion and love. There are also lots of US Christians who are deep into end-times insanity, like Christian Zionists. Perhaps the 25% number is high, but this is a very real thing.
newAccount2025··on Read this before you buy that TV streaming stick
Why? Mine is great. And light. And QUIET.
newAccount2025··on Apple's new SpeechAnalyzer API, benchmarked against Whisper and its predecessor
I took it to mean “as someone with a Texas accent”
newAccount2025··on Costco is the anti-Amazon
The other boxes would slide around anyways after your box was delivered tho?
newAccount2025··on The KIDS Act would require age checks to get online
Horse shit. The government has extremely deep expertise in computer science readily available on their payroll and at their beck and call. They literally have DARPA, for instance.
newAccount2025··on The Flat Curve Society
Yes this exact line caught my attention. A sign of genius is being able to simplify and teach. If something really is superhumanly smart, it should be able to bring us along with its thinking and explain why its answers are right.
newAccount2025··on I Am Not a Reverse Centaur
I think “build vs prompt” is a false binary that frames the argument badly.

There are way more nuanced uses of LLMs than skill-free “write me a facebook clone.” Like, hey LLM, help me develop tests of X, review this design for X, help me articulate what is wrong with the code for X, give me ideas for simplifying X, suggest optimizations for X, help me debug this failure trace for X, help me apply this refactor across all of X, and on and on. Even these are stupid examples that way over simplify.

I’m super proud of the work I’ve created /alongside/ LLMs. I’ll let it build me development aides and such with little oversight and there’s no skill there. But you can use it deliberately and maintain control, and it’s amazing to have a tool that can look through your code with you from so many angles.

newAccount2025··on Google Declaring War on the Web
I would feel more sad about this if the web wasn’t so rotten to begin with. On average, any random site is just trying to throw ads at you and harass you to subscribe and such.
newAccount2025··on At least 25 Flock cameras have been destroyed in five states since April 2025
That’s an instant debate winner if we can’t differentiate between breaking cameras and mass death.
newAccount2025··on Distributing Mac software is increasing my cortisol levels
Ugh. I just went through this ID verification process yesterday and I got it to work on /maybe/ the 8th try. Truly horrible design. Now I’m in a paperwork exchange with some random third party to get the account associated with my LLC. It would be awesome to be able to just write and distribute software, but there’s only one iOS monopoly so what are you going to do but play ball.
newAccount2025··on US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire
No. Theoretically congress could impeach him, but his party has proven they will support him no matter what his crimes. Theoretically his cabinet could remove him with the 25th amendment but they are all complicit and will need pardons for themselves.
newAccount2025··on F-15E jet shot down over Iran
Like, this very second?

It’s been ones of months since USA attacked Venzuela. We are openly musing about invading Greenland. We are actively embargoing and threatening to invade Cuba. We are the unhinged aggressor in all of this.

newAccount2025··on “Collaboration” is bullshit
Strong agree. When I started managing there was very little oversight. It wasn’t perfect and we went a bit astray, and we also did phenomenal work and had everyone on the team deeply engaged and moving with autonomy.

On my second team, the visibility theater took over, upper management set and reset and reset and reset our direction, and nobody was happy. In retrospect, I should have said no immediately. Trusting and empowering your people is hard to beat.

newAccount2025··on The MacBook Neo
Thanks, neat, I had no idea. That’s a nice system.
