neuromancer2701··on What Are 'Dark Factories,' and Do They Exist?
Daemon And FreedomTM might be one of the best near future sci-fi pairings. I read them back in 2011ish timeframe and within a couple of years multiple things had some true from those books.

With 401k, healthcare, I have heard that a million bucks gets you 3 engineers. Or in the case of layoffs you get a million dollars worth of savings per year per 3 engineers laid off.
neuromancer2701··on SpaceX Starlink Mission #17 [video]
That would mean Starship right? Because the Falcon second stage is never going to land.

What is the over/under for Starship landing regularly? 5 years?

Alastair Reynolds is just amazing to me.

As a side note, I absolutely love the intro The Expanse show because of the all the orbital mechanics.

neuromancer2701··on The Fed Will Buy Bond ETFs Now
I think it is better to say that there will be no broad based national inflation of the dollar. Cars, homes, stocks will definitely be inflated.

I thought I saw the 8GB module for 459$ but it is only the SOM so you have to purchase a carrier board as well so the 32GB Developer Kit seems the way to go.

neuromancer2701··on The Next Recession Will Be About Sovereign Debt
One aspect the article doesn't cover is that since Japans has been doing this for decades they have effective run out the clock on QE.

BOJ has been buying ETFs for so long they are the majority of shareholders in a large percentage of stocks in Japan. I don't think you can do that with swaps so I am pretty sure they had to "print" money to do that.

Additionally I have heard that ECB buys corp bonds. Apple can go over to Europe whenever it wants and sell a couple Billion in debt and it will be bought immediately.

The question is when does it pop?

I have been working in embedded system for 15+ years. Was able to get my Master's(in CS) from Georgia Tech last year. I have two young children so relocating to a large more costly area probably is not viable.

But I would be willing to travel to HQ once a quarter while working remote.

neuromancer2701··on SoftBank’s next bet: $940M into autonomous delivery startup Nuro
Kroger already has this with the ClickList grocer pickup service. So instead of loading the groceries into your car the same employees will just load the robot and it will drive to your house. No extra effort or overhead because the same clicklist app will be used for both use cases.
neuromancer2701··on Google Edge TPU Devices
The NXP® i.MX 8MQuad board is available for 150$ and has USB3 and PCIe. The TPU would probably be attached through one of those buses. I would bet around 250$ with the TPU which is pretty good and puts it around half the Jetson Tx2, 1/5 the Xavier. I wonder if the TPU could be used for SLAM not just object identification, now that would be useful

These aren't "different CPU architectures". They would all be x86-64 so unless VMware uses some specific Intel feature it shouldn't be a problem.
neuromancer2701··on The U.S. Yield Curve Has Inverted
The FED has been unwinding the balance sheet this whole year. Granted the rate started out at 16 Billion/month and was capped at 40B/month. So there have been plenty of jokes about how it will take years to unwind 4 Trillion. I think we have just passed 150 Billion there is a pretty cool chart out there somewhere.

The unwinding of this many treasuries has always been a concern about the whole 2008 crisis along with the unintended consequences of ZIRP.
