netule··on Tor browser removing various Firefox AI features
Absolutely, 100%. I'm glad they're finally implementing it!
netule··on Tor browser removing various Firefox AI features
I'd love to be able to open up an arbitrary web page in this sidebar. It would be super valuable for research. They can obviously do it, since the AI sidebar also loads a web page, but the functionality is locked for some reason, and vertical splitting extensions are pure jank.

I really wish Mozilla would focus on addressing some of the numerous user feature requests, rather than whatever the current trend is.

netule··on The RSS feed reader landscape
TIL everyone on HN has built an RSS reader.
netule··on Say Goodbye
> I can imagine why you’d feel that way, but I can’t continue this conversation.

This is ChatGPT, 100%.

netule··on An opinionated critique of Duolingo
Duolingo was helpful for me to expand my Spanish vocabulary, but it definitely did not teach me the language itself. Some of the most critical linguistic concepts are buried at the top of stages and not brought up in the gamified lessons themselves. I'm in a privileged position since my wife is a native Spanish speaker, so I quickly began to grasp how much Duolingo wasn't teaching me and how much speaking Spanish with my wife (and watching Spanish-language shows without subtitles) _was_ teaching me.
netule··on Leaked Apple M5 9 core Geekbench scores
I love being able to run local LLMs with decent performance on a laptop without external hardware, but it would be really nice if there was better gaming support.
netule··on Linus Learns Analog Circuits
Also seems to render nicely in Obsidian.
netule··on Apple Watch Ultra 3
If you’re really into fitness and/or min-maxing your own stats. Honestly, it can create a bit of an obsessive loop once you get deep into it.
netule··on Signal Secure Backups
Do I get this for free if I’m a monthly donator?
netule··on RSS is awesome
Not only that, but an ad for their mobile app. Pretty low quality content.
netule··on GPT-5
This reminds me of the agent demo's MLB stadium map from a few weeks ago: https://youtu.be/1jn_RpbPbEc?t=1435 (at timestamp)

Completely bonkers stuff.

netule··on Steam, Itch.io are pulling ‘porn’ games. Critics say it's a slippery slope
And that’s a good thing. There are too many stories of unsafe insertion of household objects ending up in the ER.
netule··on I avoid using LLMs as a publisher and writer
James Patterson comes to mind. He simply writes detailed outlines for the plots of his novels and has other authors write them for him. The books are then published under his name, which is more like a brand at that point.
netule··on Show HN: Refine – A Local Alternative to Grammarly
They used to have an API, which they removed about two years ago or so. Until then, there were a bunch of 3rd-party Grammarly plugins, including a pretty decent one for VSCode.
netule··on America's Space Force Is Preparing for the Risk of War

netule··on Amazon bans its drivers from moving their own lips too much at work
Same, but I can’t do a long drive without wailing along to some tunes.
netule··on Interviewing Tim Sweeney and Neal Stephenson
I loved REAMDE until a little more than halfway through, when it became a DNF for me.
netule··on Zuckerberg claims regret on caving to White House pressure on content
I'm genuinely interested in understanding why you thought that ChatGPT would be a valid source. I'm not being facetious.

Edit: typo

netule··on OpenSnitch is a GNU/Linux interactive application firewall
The bash command line wouldn't be the same as the one launched by your terminal, though. But yes, I’m sure there are myriad exploits around something like that.
netule··on OpenSnitch is a GNU/Linux interactive application firewall
I wonder if there's a way to configure it so that when the parent cmd is a trusted command (say, a bash/zsh owned by the user), it could let the curl command through and otherwise block it. But yeah, that seems like a bit of a hassle.
netule··on WordStar 7, the last ever DOS version, is re-released
My (baseless) theory is that he has finished every novel in the series already but will not release them until he passes away to avoid massive backlash from his fanbase.
netule··on Divers discover Roman mosaic
Exactly, and Augustus was the first Roman emperor!
netule··on A judge ordered us to turn over privileged documents
I live there now and don’t doubt it for a second. MS’s government is completely corrupt at every level.
netule··on Keylogger discovered in image generator extension
No need to hide it inside dependencies, just modify the code before building and pushing the package to PyPi.
netule··on Tesla Cybertruck Loses to Model X in Towing Range Test – Again
Yeah, they do. When towing a couple horses across state lines I don’t want to subject those poor animals to stopping every 90-100 miles for an hour to charge. I don’t even want to subject myself to that.
netule··on Did GitHub Copilot increase my productivity?
I’ve found that early on in a brand new project, its output is very useful, but as the project grows more complex and interdependent, the suggestions become less so.
netule··on Rejected from YC. Reason: Because I don't have a cofounder
They said _rejected_, though.
netule··on New 'Lord of the Rings' Films for Warner Bros., Targeting 2026 Debut
> It is an honor and a privilege to travel back to Middle-earth with our good friend and collaborator, Andy Serkis, who has unfinished business with that stinker — Gollum!

So, a prequel of sorts? Perhaps an expansion on Gollum's origin story?

netule··on Ask HN: Why do you use Apple products?
I use a Linux box for my personal development projects, but use a Mac for work and my own MBA around the house. I also own an iPhone and Apple Watch as well.

As others stated, these things just do what they claim to do on the tin. If you want to tinker, then futz around with Linux. If you don’t want to worry about your OS too much, a Mac will do fine for most use cases.

netule··on Theranos fraudster Elizabeth Holmes has prison sentence reduced again
Since they’re not releasing why her sentence was reduced, it probably wasn’t due to good behavior or the other regular stuff. To me, this reeks of cooperation with authorities.
