netizen-936824··on Cohort succession explains most change in literary culture
Came here to say this. To understand the forest's inner workings and mechanisms you likely wouldn't be setting up an afternoon picnic
netizen-936824··on Space warps astronauts brains leaving concerning changes even when back on Earth
What issue do you take with the reporting, specifically?
netizen-936824··on Broader Autism Phenotype: What does it mean to have just a hint of autism?
The only reason you think its ridiculous is because your perspective is limited and you can't understand the perspective that generated the comment

People say the same thing about those in academia. Weird

It does appear to work on some select US bands, like the 3 when I checked.

There's also the problem of actually purchasing one, the fairphone website only ships to EU

I was simply answering their question.
netizen-936824··on Why is every consumer startup selling me what I already own for 10x the price?
No, it just sounds like they got sucked into the consumer culture whole hog
netizen-936824··on Why is every consumer startup selling me what I already own for 10x the price?
You can spend $30 on equipment and another $8 for a pound of beans

OR

You can spend $300 on a burr grinder $150 on one of those neat vacuum brewing devices, and who knows how much for fair trade single source coffee beans roasted in your back yard

Or you can find a balance that gets you things you care about (fair trade beans, good roast, a nice grinder for flavor, whatever your taste might be) at a lower price than going all out

When it comes to underwear or other clothing items, I'm generally willing to pay a bit more if I know that I'm avoiding plastics and pollution and the workers who make the items aren't working in sweatshop conditions

netizen-936824··on Automatic sealing of non-violent criminal records passes final vote in Colorado
>I assume that most people do not believe that ex-cons are rehabilitated

It is this attitude along with treating the justice system as purely a trafficker of punishment instead of taking people out of society to rehabilitate them to interact better

There's a reason the Nordic system has far lower rates of recidivism, because they actually try to rehabilitate people for reintegration in society.

In the US, as you state, it marks people for life. This prevents getting legitimate work and forces people who may have made a mistake once to commit further crimes just to survive.

Add that onto the fact that US prisons are shitholes where there is no structure or activities and people just teach each other about how to get better at commuting crimes

Its the US system and attitude that's dogshit and could be changed. But we have too many people in this country with a boner for retribution and the suffering of the other

netizen-936824··on Data broker is selling location data of people who visit abortion clinics
They are implying that the statements are hypocritical when in the same paragraph
netizen-936824··on Why do girls do better at school?
>Women want to re-produce

You lead your comment with this statement. From this, its apparent to me that you're basing your hypothesis on the difference in educational performance between the sexes based entirely on this supposed difference.

My comment was pointing out that men are also highly driven to reproduce, therefore your point is invalid

netizen-936824··on Ask HN: Recommendation for high refresh rate, premium, non-gaming Monitor?
Are people actually spending huge amounts on a monitor and expecting good speakers?
netizen-936824··on Ask HN: How can I learn macroeconomics properly?
Probably because all of the climate scientists with half of a brain can tell that selling out to oil corporations means selling out the future of humanity. It isn't so obvious what consequences bad economics has
netizen-936824··on Why do girls do better at school?
Ah yes, because men definitely aren't known for being complete horn-dogs

What are you basing your assertion on?

Too bad fairphone isn't available for US networks. I wanted to buy one but they don't make it feasible
netizen-936824··on Apple employees criticize work-from-home policy in open letter
Yes, and the management solution is to blame the people being managed for not liking it
netizen-936824··on When Haircuts Were Illegal
People have super limited perspectives but also like to think they're somehow special and aren't limited like everyone else.

People literally just can't understand the perspectives of others in most situations

netizen-936824··on Ask HN: Has anyone had luck with starting an apartment garden?
How much does it cost monthly to run that 400w light?
netizen-936824··on Ask HN: Is Gmail mistakenly reporting legitimate emails as spam?
Something else I have also noticed are the comments people leave stating that they don't like to unsubscribe, rather they report the unwanted email as slam and leave it at that.

So people are reporting tons of emails as spam instead of just unsubscribing

What's the population density of Austin compared to San Francisco?
netizen-936824··on Ask HN: Why do we assume animals can't conceive of a higher level conciousness?
Because humans have an incredibly limited perspective. We can say we understand that, or that we understand the perspective of others, but most people actually can't understand different perspectives or it's just incredibly difficult to do so.

Minor changes in neural regulation can provide substantial differences in perception. That's saying nothing about trying to understand the perspective of a completely different species, which the differences are even greater

On top of this, all of our definitions are generally based on human experience

netizen-936824··on Ask HN: Why do we assume animals can't conceive of a higher level conciousness?
Maybe not an overwhelming majority, but my anecdotal experience is that many people do think this way
