nesk_··on Phyllotaxis: An audio-reactive LED display
Love it! I'm currently learning electronics (again, did some in high school) and this kind of project is really inspiring.

Thank you for sharing the build process.

nesk_··on Mistral raises €3B
If they were cash flow positive they would tell it to everyone, be sure of that.

nesk_··on typ.ing
https://keybr.com is also a really good tool to learn typing on your keyboard.
nesk_··on Minecraft Java raises recommended memory to 16GB ahead of Vulkan transition
It will only cost you $200 in RAM, definitely a good time to raise the minimum/recommended specifications.
nesk_··on Can the stockmarket swallow Anthropic, SpaceX and OpenAI?
A friend of mine, a dermatologist, told me that LLMs are quite performant for melanoma analysis. Based on their own statistics, LLMs are able to beat humans with ~10 years of experience in the field.

They will never beat the human instinct tho, but they can be great tools sometimes. Unfortunately, LLMs mostly produce garbage.

nesk_··on Bun's experimental Rust rewrite hits 99.8% test compatibility on Linux x64 glibc
I use French nearly all the time, it works well. Not that I can't write English prompts, but I find it easier to use my native language.
nesk_··on Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent
Kagi Maps isn't bad, it's slow but POIs are there with enough data.

nesk_··on A new spam policy for “back button hijacking”
Actually, you can do that with Firefox, either per site or as a global policy.

nesk_··on I run multiple $10K MRR companies on a $20/month tech stack
It is true, it's the official pricing of GitHub Copilot.
nesk_··on I run multiple $10K MRR companies on a $20/month tech stack
>Really? Lol. If it's true why would you publish it? To ensure Microsoft will patch it up and fuck up your workflow?

It's true and it's their official pricing, so talking about it won't change anything.

People are spending way too much money with Claude Code while they could simply pay for GitHub Copilot and fire up OpenCode to get the same results but way cheaper.

nesk_··on Google details new 24-hour process to sideload unverified Android apps
> I have never heard of scammers pushing sideloaded apps upon their victims in order to carry out their scams.

Maybe not scammers, but an abusive partner could sideload an application on your phone to spy on you. I've seen that before within my relatives.

nesk_··on Lazycut: A simple terminal video trimmer using FFmpeg
Love it! I had this idea before but never took the time to implement it. You did it, thank you.

nesk_··on How I use Claude Code: Separation of planning and execution
> I am not seeing the performance degradation everyone talks about after 50% context window.

I pretty much agree with that. I use long sessions and stopped trying to optimize the context size, the compaction happens but the plan keeps the details and it works for me.

nesk_··on Show HN: If you lose your memory, how to regain access to your computer?
I've been searching for a solution to let my wife have access to my master password if I die someday. This is definitely something that could work, thank you!

One recommendation to help this tool gain traction: use a black and white terminal for your terminal preview (GIF).

1. It will ease reading. It's currently terrible, you might be used to it but we aren't.

2. It will sharpen the text and make it easier to read since there's less to encode into the GIF format.

Additional recommendations: remove the useless part on the right—I use Arch BTW vibe—and make the font bigger.

nesk_··on Ask HN: What tech job would let me get away with the least real work possible?
I've been working part-time for two years, works great for me! It's not easy to negotiate—and not with every company—but feasible.

nesk_··on In Praise of RSS and Controlled Feeds of Information
I've ditched RSS feeds more than 10 years ago but I'm increasingly wanting to go back to them. Thank you for sharing this blog post, it'll help to get me started.
nesk_··on I forced myself to spend a week in Instagram instead of Xcode
Then it's the worst marketing piece because there's not an even single link to the app.

You might not appreciate the topic, but this is definitely not an ad, just honest learning and sharing about a difficult part of the entrepreneur job.

nesk_··on I forced myself to spend a week in Instagram instead of Xcode
I didn't know who he is and still found this blog post really interesting because the real topic is about marketing your app when you're a software developer.
nesk_··on Want to piss off your IT department? Are the links not malicious looking enough?
Unfortunately it's not possible to add custom query parameters
nesk_··on This map is not upside down
I definitely recommend you to read A History of the World in 12 Maps by Jerry Broton. It's very interesting and you learn a lot about our world and its history.
nesk_··on Float Exposed
I've never seen this topic so well explained, thank you for sharing!
nesk_··on My phone is an ereader now
If I want a dumb phone for my daily needs, I have to keep a smartphone at home to stay in contact with my friends that are using Whatsapp. I don't really feel free here.
nesk_··on My phone is an ereader now
I totally agree with you, but asking my friends to move to Telegram isn't easy. And multiplying the channels is a complex thing. Nowadays I have iMessage, Messenger, WhatsApp—I deliberately omit Slack and Discord—and sometimes I wonder "where is the discussion with friend X?"
