neofrommatrix··on AI-Powered Smart Washing Machines
Imagine if they start charging subscription for smart features HP style.
neofrommatrix··on Insomnia, but not lack of sleep, may hasten brain shrinkage: study
With the mask on, it’s like having a white noise machine at a volume of 3-4. My wife wasn’t getting enough sleep because of my snoring, so this white noise isn’t bothering her at all.

I went with the doctor prescribed one, through insurance and have a Resmed Airsense 11. Did not explore second hand and I don’t think you can buy one without a prescription. I Change the mask every 3-4 months, but you can extend it as long as you wash it every 3-4 days.

neofrommatrix··on Insomnia, but not lack of sleep, may hasten brain shrinkage: study
I sometimes wonder what damage 20 years of undiagnosed sleep apnea has caused. My sleep report showed 50 incidents of breathing issue per hour on average. I finally got a CPAP and it has literally made a world of difference to my life. Now I hear my toddler snore and hope that he doesn’t have it. At least, I can intervene early.
neofrommatrix··on Writing in Pictures: Richard Scarry and the art of children's literature
I absolutely adore Richard Scarry books. I discovered Richard Scarry a couple of months ago when I was looking for books to read for my 3 year old. Now, not a moment goes by in the evenings when we are reading the adventures of Lowly and his seek and find books. It’s a ritual every night. Richard Scarry and the Grumpy Monkey series are a godsend.
neofrommatrix··on Money Buys Happiness, Even If You're Already Rich
Only rich people say money doesn't buy happiness.
neofrommatrix··on OpenNMS: Visualize and monitor everything on your local and distributed networks
There’s a link to their YouTube channel in documentation. That has a few demos, although I did not check them out
neofrommatrix··on What are the best options for Amazon SDEs thinking about leaving over RTO policy
Amazon always needs bodies. So whatever ban there is, they will “make an exception”..
neofrommatrix··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
Regarding your last point, I’ve witnessed two different engineers cry on two different calls because they weren’t getting any support from senior engineers and were at risk of being pipped. It’s that ridiculous. And these were not incompetent engineers. One went to Meta and another went to Cloudflare after Amazon.
neofrommatrix··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
It’s no exaggeration when you witness two new engineers cry on two different calls because they are not getting any support from the more senior engineers and are at risk of being pipped.
neofrommatrix··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
"Disagree and Commit" to that argument.
neofrommatrix··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
Instant PIP. That's how Amazon works.
neofrommatrix··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
It's not worth working there as a L5/L6 level engineer. The money is absolutely not worth it. Unless, your team is working on an absolutely new product. The only engineers,IMO, that like it there are those adept at finding new bootstrapped teams and designing and writing the product from scratch and releasing the MVP. They then hand over the crappy MVP to other engineers to support and move on to other new products. On-call is absolutely brutal because of exactly that.
neofrommatrix··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
When it comes to Amazon, you are allowed all the French you can use..
neofrommatrix··on Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week
Extremely apt and true for Amazon
neofrommatrix··on BMW Overtakes Tesla in European EV Sales for First Time
There’s other EVs out there.
neofrommatrix··on BMW Overtakes Tesla in European EV Sales for First Time
Mr. Musk is free to discuss whatever he wants to. I am free to spend my money like I want to. That’s a part of being in a democracy.

And your argument applies to the right-wing when it comes to left ideology as well. Like the Bud Light boycott.

neofrommatrix··on BMW Overtakes Tesla in European EV Sales for First Time
I was seriously considering a Model X until Mr. Musk decided to open up on his political ideology..
neofrommatrix··on Ask HN: How to Avoid Microplastics/PFAS
The only things I did was to get a reverse osmosis filter installed for drinking water and stop using any non-stick cookware.
neofrommatrix··on Ink is completely full: Woman warns of HP printers. Won't let her print anything
One demographic this appeals to is the shareholders. I doubt their user/market research said anything about people willing to pay for this.
neofrommatrix··on The Open Source Computer Science Degree
Question: is a CS degree complete without compilers? Or Networking and Distributed Systems?

neofrommatrix··on Jeff Bezos' management rules are slowly unraveling inside Amazon
The grand total discount an employee gets is 10% a year for purchases of $1000 max: so $100.
neofrommatrix··on Jeff Bezos' management rules are slowly unraveling inside Amazon
It’s still lower than other big tech. Plus, their fine print when it comes to benefits sucks. For example, three year vesting on 401k company contribution and the skewed stock vesting policy. There are others I have been personally affected by that I could mention. Amazon overall has been designed to burn out employees and throw them out.
neofrommatrix··on Substack's "Your Note Made You $" Notification Is the Best New Feature
My biggest gripe with Substack is subscriptions. There are many creators and there are many worthy articles written by them. But, you might not be interested in all articles written by an author. And, subscribing to all you are interested in quickly adds up. I would rather have a credits system (like audible), where you have a monthly subscription to Substack and you use credits to buy access to articles you are interested in. Or something similar.
neofrommatrix··on Ask HN: Do you share files at work?
Like go/links?
neofrommatrix··on Ask HN: Is a masters in ML worth it?
Because tech moves fast. For instance, about 10 years ago, cloud was big (and it still somewhat is). I assume a lot of students dug deep and got their masters and PhDs in it. Now, there’s a lot less jobs or a lot more competition compared to then.
neofrommatrix··on Tesla driver pulled over after wearing new Apple vision headset on highway
Oh man! You hit a nerve there. The number of drivers I come across on a daily basis who refuse to use their turn signals is insane.
