nekusar··on Debian polls its developers on AI: permit or ban?
I do use and run my own LLMs locally. But I understand why Debian might ban it, under just 1 reason:

LLM outputs cannot be copyrighted.

That alone starts to invalidate the GPL and other FLOSS licenses. It overall weakens the project the more you accept. And companies (MS, Amazon, etm) will gleefully loot anything marked with "LLM" as a free-for-all.

Until the whole copyright situation can be finalized, I'd understand for any FLOSS org to refuse all LLM code.

(Its also the same reason why Oracle also forbids all LLM code in Java and their DB. Same reason.)

Use VSCodium. It's the FLOSS branch with Microsoft tracking shit removed.

nekusar··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
When there's no public bathrooms, everything is a "public bathroom'.

Just 2 weeks ago, saw people pissing/shitting at a pull-over in Iceland. Laws explicitly forbid that... But when you gotta go, you go.

And Iceland also hits people with NO public restrooms at all, and pay restrooms to boot. I saw upwards of $1.50 for bathroom usage.

And in the USA, bathrooms are free, but almost always exclusively corporate funded, and usually "customers only". And in my local city, there's a few real city public restrooms. They naturally lock themselves after 11pm. Yeah, it's anti-homeless shit.

nekusar··on MS Paint and Photos inivisibly watermark even locally generated output with GUID
Perhaps so. But the problem at hand here is that MS Windows has so lost the plot of being an OS for users, to ABUSING users.

All these fixes and repairs ignore the fact that abusing people pays. Surveillance capitalism pays, and provides a revenue stream for Microsoft to further exploit.

The only way to win is not to play.

Or.....Install Linux and bypass all this stupidity.

They will move faster to track each and every one of you, all the while shoving ads and garbage down each of your respective machines... and you all pay for it?!

Please educate YOURSELF about criminal actions by a company is a fine (read: cost of doing business), whereas criminal actions by a person get years/decades long prison time and life-long ramifications after the actual punishment.

And PACER is federal court documents. Its a fucking scam and travesty that a system soo heavily built on precedent gatekeeps its own law at $.10/page.

Aaron is a motherfucking hero.

nekusar··on Anna's Archive Owes $340 Million, Lost Several Domains, but It's Still Online
"We are going to jail you for half or more of your life, restrict any medicines you might be on, treat you in deplorable conditions, constitute you as a slave of the state if we decide so". And there is no parole in federal prisons.

Feds did NOT have to choose to go the route they did. Their pursuance of a victimless "crime" lead to Aaron's only path was 'Exit'.

Sure, he committed suicide. Why? Because his life was already significantly threatened with what amounts to torture by prison.

nekusar··on Anna's Archive Owes $340 Million, Lost Several Domains, but It's Still Online
Exactly. All libraries are worthy of being supported and grown. I make no distinction between a physical dead-tree library and a digital library.

The only reason we even have dead-tree libraries at all is because 100 years ago, that was what John Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie put forth to whitewash their horrible capitalist behaviors across the USA. And because it was done by those generations' billionaires, public libraries because acceptable.

If public libraries were created in the last 20 years, they would have been banned and felony copyright charges would have been levied. In fact, thats exactly what happened WHEN people tried to create free digital libraries.

Might as well say "Annas Archive OWES ELEVENTY HUNDRED BILLIONTY-TRILLIONTY INFINITY DOLLARS!!!!!111" ala elementary school playground make-believe.

I remember when RIAA was shaking down 15 year olds for $7000 for a single Metallica download from Napster. Or how Aaron Schwartz was executed by proxy by JSTOR and the feds, for what should have been free to access for all.

But hey, Anthropic, OpenAI, X, and others can pirate to their hearts content with for-profit piracy, but "we" (royal) are OK with that. We just cant have the poors have access to the sum of human knowledge.

nekusar··on We must not grant AI agents legal personhood
> No they don't. If a CEO orders an employee to murder somebody then the employee and CEO will both go to jail;

No, they don't, and that's bullshit. That's NOT how it works.

How it works: "We need to decline 10% more medical claims to make more money for our shareholders. 90% of them won't challenge and many will die, but we make bank on that"

And law is just a legal fiction. Case in point: wage theft is a tort but taking $100 from the till gets the cops summoned and a misdemeanor theft charge. Corporations can and do sway law to their benefit.

nekusar··on We must not grant AI agents legal personhood
Why not? We give full pershood to corporations. Those are also legal fictions.

Oh look. Tone police.
nekusar··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
> It is a reasonable position to frame them as opposing authoritarian government policies and for the governments response to be overreach.

Well that's a big coded pile of bullshit.

What polices are "overreach"? By what standards? What authoritarian rules are being protested?

Oh that's right. It's all anti-vaxxer and 'cure yourself of Covid with bleach and ivermectin' bullshittery.

I have absolutely no fucking sympathy for a bunch of covidiots. Doubly so, since these chuckle fucks were ALSO pro-Trumpers.

> black and white American fool that has created the political environment in the USA.

And it's hilarious that you wouldn't touch the Alberta seperatism/fascist movement happening right now. You all like to pretend your shit doesn't stink... And well, I smelled it during wildfire season. Turn my sky yellow orange.

But all of this is spoken like a Republican riling shit up on Facebook.

How about 29 countries?

"AC penetration stands only at 19% (vs. 90% US, 91% Japan). This is not a cultural inevitability but a regulatory outcome"

And specifically Geneva Switzerland, it requires medical need to install air conditioning. https://www.gazetaexpress.com/en/Why-are-air-conditioners-al...

nekusar··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Ya know, there's not a damned thing I can do about any of this, other than TRY to get citizenship elsewhere and leave this shithole.

And fascism is taking hold lots of other places as well. Canada's a laugh, with Alberta seperatism. And they also had trump trucker caravans.

EU? They're boiling in their own juices with the fact they now need air conditioning due to climate devastation... And many countries make it illegal without health reasons.

Japan and SK are both doing very poorly. China has some of the harshest immigration.

South America is still being fucked with by the CIA and destabilization idiocy.

I understand the tune-out check-out hippie response. There's fuck-all I can do, other than watch.

nekusar··on US debt has hit $40tn - Will that be a wake-up call?
Who do we owe it TO?
nekusar··on Why aren't smart people happier? (2022)
Because we see how things fail, and why. And it's usually intentional incompetence and/or greed.

Both are fixable, but both require the person or system wants to fix it. So, it's usually not fixed.

Things like death "fixes" things. So does leaving the position in simpler ways. Technology can force the issue and force removing incompetence, or equalizing greed.

But yeah, it's seeing "intentional incompetence and/or greed" causes stagnation or worse is very disheartening and sorrowful. We could do so much better.

And in the end, selling tokens ENCOURAGES the companies to sell more tokens. And how do they sell more tokens?

"Thinking" aka 'trust us bro!' without proof of thinking.

Making the model waste more tokens.

Advertisement: aka you pay to be advertised at.

Silently downgrading you and still faking models with the more costly tokens.

Intentional strategies to eat more tokens with no real gains.

Giving out almost-but-not-quite solutions that require another pull of the slo(t/p) machine.

I didnt say "pimeys sucks".

I said "Using LLMs makes a unmaintainable climate-destroying bug ridden slopfest."

Does an LLM make unmaintainable code? Generally, yes. Its tremendously verbose, with structures strange for humans.

Climate destroying? Depends on the LLM, but if its a US corporate based one, then yes. Just go look at the methane burners and diesel burners needed before power grid hookups years later. Climate devastation for sure.

Bug ridden? #7 on HN is "AI-Generated GitHub Copilot “Autofix” Allowed Compromise of Snowflake's Jira" https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49331423

All of that defends the slur 'slopfest', which is well deserved.

Yeah for the 12th we lucked out in þingeyri for 2 rooms at USD 250$ a night. It was overcast, but a hell of an amazing party. Was invited in to a viking village, and a Michelin star chef catering food.. And ended up on Veislan!
nekusar··on My friends all hate AI; I just joined an AI startup
My FIRST question when anybody brings up scientific/software ethics is:

Whose ethics? What are the axioms? What are the exceptions? How do you handle paradoxes?

Most of the time, it's just some shitty corporate "ethics" with: make money at all costs but don't let the company look bad.

nekusar··on How to disable or avoid intrusive AI
Shitty LLM chatbots providing unhelpful (read: lies) customer service is even worse than some Phillippeens or Indian support with terrible scripting and half-broken engrish. At least you could deal with those fucks with demanding a manager or similar.

The LLMs will always do the worse option to customers, to extract more money. Burn'em all to the ground.

nekusar··on New Mexico court orders Meta to pay $567m over harms to children’s mental health
What really sucks about all these types of judgements:

Who's wronged here? The children.

How much do they get for being wronged? Absolutely nothing.

It all just goes to the governments coffers to be wasted away on a few PSAs directed at children.

nekusar··on On non-rooted Android 17, ADB uninstall of system apps fails
> not philosophically mandated security holes.

So you're arguing the same technofascist arguments that Apple and Google both claim. I own my phone, not technofascist sky daddy, or whatever developer also envisions that role.

My hardware. My rules. More people like you need to learn what ownership actually bloody means.

nekusar··on On non-rooted Android 17, ADB uninstall of system apps fails
And Graphene OS is also anti-user by being tremendously rude about NOT providing root and using the same tired "suck-u-rity" crap Google and Apple also use.

If you're smart enough to buy a phone that supports GrapheneOS, AND install it, yeah you should have root.

And tools like XPrivacy and plugins allow control of subsystems like GPS spoofing and lying to apps.

nekusar··on Flock's CEO Faced Me After Its Cameras Led to My Wrongful Stop
Exactly.

I think as a citizen and a 2x juror, that it is our responsibility first to determine if a law should be a law for all. Secondly, if the law passes scrutiny, ONLY then should we determine guilt or innocence.

I am highly disincentivised in seeing victimless crimes as crimes. Like drug usage and all that. Or destruction of horrific security appratus like Flock.

Simply put, the laws wrong. And that means 'Not Guilty' for anyone I would have to judge, even if they admitted it in open court.

(I'm also aware that jury nullification has also been used to find black lynching perpetrators to be not guilty of the same nullification. I said that I judge a law if it should be. Murder is pretty clearly not victimless, but extenuating circumstances like self defense are a thing. Lynching is terrible, and so is freeing lynching perpe-traitors.)

nekusar··on Flock's CEO Faced Me After Its Cameras Led to My Wrongful Stop
YCombinator and HN would run a "Slit your mommas throat as a service" if they though there were hockey stick growth profit.

Flock, and anybody who funds them are the real domestic terrorists. Anybody who destroys these devices are patriots in my book.

And if I ever serve for jury duty over a case like that, they didn't do it.
